If you wanted to play in the key of A (with bellows pipes for example) would you put a CAPO on fret 7 and play the D chords, or put your capo on fret 2 and play the G chords? Thanks.

Great question. You can do either, and should experiment with both. I would tend to put a capo at 7 and play the D-style chords, because I like the sound of chords that omit the major 3rd.

Daft question - what tuning best with Scots trad? I know guitar has standard and a few others (e.g. DADGAD) - what is best for bouzouki? it will be easier for me to pick up if it is a mandolin/fiddle reverse guitar tuning!

If you're playing anything with chords the GDAD is probably best. Gives you easy access to keys of G, D, and Em, and can be capoed up to 2 for A and Am. If you are just playing melodies and already know fiddle/mandolin tuning then you'll probably find it easier sticking to GDAE.

What brand of bouzouki is this and could you post a link to where it can be purchased?

Are the low G and D strings tuned an octave apart?
@rocksnshit
@rocksnshit 6 жыл бұрын
I have all my pairs of strings tuned in unison - exactly the same pitch. Many people prefer to have higher octave strings on the low G and D pairs, but I prefer the sound of unison strings.

Hi, very useful. Is there any way of getting your book in non-digital format? Been trying to get hold of it (Chord-melody playing for the Irish Bouzouki) and can only find the kindle version which I can't use. Thanks.
