I cite my sources and they may differ than other people's accounts, so I don't guarantee
the actual accuracy of my videos.
In today’s video were’ going to take a look at 3 rockstars who tried to save Stone Temple Piltos and Velvet Revolver frontman Scott Weiland.
Bursting onto the scene in the early 90’s Stone Temple Pilots had almost immediate success thanks to their 1992 debut record Core. The band would continue to have sustained success throughout the rest of the decade and early 2000’s before their implosion in 2003. Weiland would go on to play with supergroup velvet revolver which featured 3 members of Guns n’ Roses before he finally reformed with stone temple pilots and played with his last band the wildabouts. Weiland would sadly pass away in December of 2015 while on tour after being found dead on the band’s tour bus as a result of an accidental overdose with alcohol and drugs found in his system.
In 1992 Stone Temple Pilots would tour with Megadeth. Megadeth leader Dave Mustaine would reveal to Loudwire in 2015 that while on tour with STP he gave advice to Scott Weiland telling him
"It's really peculiar the way things went down with me and Scott, because I was in Finland doing a 'rate a record' thing for a magazine one time and they had given us the 'Core' record to review. And I was listening to it and I thought, 'Either this is a really bad joke or these guys are gonna be massive, because they've got a sound that's very similar to a lot of the great bands that are in the alternative scene right now, but I don't know if it's a parody or if it's the real deal.
Impressed Mustaine requested the band open for Megadeth on their 'Countdown To Extinction' tour, which they did. Mustaine would admit to helping the band rearrange songs on their setlist to help the flow of their show a bit more. He would add: t"he thing that I regret was at the end of the tour, I told him, I said, 'Look, Scott, you're gonna be huge. You're gonna have money, you're gonna have drugs, and it's gonna be everywhere.' And I said, 'If you do anything, stay away from heroin.'
Mustaine would criticize those close to Weiland. Mustaine would add he thought those close to him took him out of rehab too soon so he could make money on the road towards the final year of his life.
Adding
"No song, no performance, no amount of money is worth a human life. And I think that the music industry suffered a tragic loss. But as much as the onus is on Scott for doing it, there are other people that are responsible for that."
Kiss Gene Simmons
In 1996 Kiss would reunite with their original lineup and Stone Temple Pilots were supposed to open a handful of gis for the band. Stone Temple Pilots had released their album the same year Tiny Music... Songs from the Vatican Gift Shop. STP’s tour to support the album was hampered by Weiland’s addiction and the band would have to end up pulling out of some tour dates including playing Tiger Stadium with Kiss in the summer of 1996. Ironically, the band would be replaced by Alice in Chains, whose frontman Layne Staley was also dealing with addiction and a band who didn’t tour much to support their new album at the time. Kiss Gene Simmons would tell Detroit Radio Station WRIF 101.1 FM radio
"I met Weiland at a club and I said to him, 'Look, you've gotta be straight, cut it out with all the heroin and the crap, respect the fans, get up un stage, do a great show, it's all yours. We'll support you, but I want you clean on stage.'
"[He told me] 'Gene, I promise!' It's like what anybody who's a drug addict and alcoholic says. 'I've been clean for a million years,' and stuff. And then he died.
"And I don't believe it [when they tell me they have beaten their addictions]," he said. "If you were an alcoholic or a drug addict, you're gonna be that for the rest of your life. And that's what they tell you in AA and other organizations - that every day it's gonna be a decision. You're gonna have to make that decision to be straight or ruin your life and hurt everybody around you.
Velvet Revolver
Formed in 2003 the supergroup would feature ⅗ of Guns N’ Roses use your illusion lineup in addition to scott weiland and guitarist Dave Kushner. Scott was the last member to join the group as the band spent a year looking for a fr

Saw STP in Boston, in what was then called the Fleet Center, in the mid 90’s. I’ve never witnessed a frontman so completely empowering and invigorating a large crowd, while simultaneously absolutely crushing the vocals on a set list that featured a variety of songs: the raw, growling anthems (Dead & Bloated, Wicked Garden), the melodic pop pieces (Interstate Love Song, Vasoline), and nuanced acoustic cuts (Pretty Penny, Seven Caged Tigers). Weiland’s death, like Cornell, Staley, and Bennington, was such a tragic gut-punch for fans of not just great guitar rock… but superior, generational vocal talent in rock.

Mustaine being rescued from drugs by Alice Cooper remains my favorite story from the 90s... I'm glad Dave tried to reach out for Scott and inviting them on a tour, you can see in the earlier STP's shows Weiland wasn't hooked on the stuff yet.

I feel bad that it seems like Dave blames himself... there is a part of his quote that the maker of this video didn't put here where he says Scott did the opposite of what Dave told him, so maybe he accidentally pushed him into it rather than pull him away. Dave tried to help Scott, he did his best. It didn't work, but that's not his fault.

I got to see STP on New Years 2001 in Orlando, Florida for $100. Back then that kind of money for a band was almost double what I had paid to see a band at that point. My girlfriend canceled at the last minute and I was a little upset but was going anyway. I’d see well over 100 concerts and wasn’t expecting to see the best concert since I saw Yes on my birthday in 85. But they were incredible from start to finish. I got a free drink which I had a coke. And I gave my other free drink to a really hot chick that decided to attach herself to me. I had the best time since I got stung by bees and had sex in the shower with my girlfriend while almost passing out🤣🤣🤣Scott was just an incredible frontman! 10/10👍🏻👍🏻

Had the pleasure of meeting And being around Scott in Ohio some years back. Really nice guy but so troubled. He had a handler with him that went everywhere he went. He wanted to walk miles to a local park and the lady had to walk with him. She didn’t seem bothered by it, I assume she was paid very well and seemed to care a great deal for him. I don’t know what it would have taken to save Scott, seems everyone tried really hard.

I’ve seen some really incredible bands over 40+ years. Surprisingly Stone Temple Pilots stole the top spot to me. They did all they’re hits. Then did them all again acoustically. Then did them all a third time but with even more power. It was just fantastic on New Year’s Eve in like 02 or 03. All I know was I thought they were cool. But when I went to see them live and completely by myself because everyone had to work or couldn’t make it. I hooked up with some fine Betty I never met before and cheered all night with her till she noticed she lost her purse. I never saw her after that but I had a blast with her. But the performances throughout the whole band was pure intense jamming fun. I thought they’d be good but was totally blown away. Like seeing skynyrd in they’re prime or The Doors or Yes!

It was actually Scott whom came up with the band name, both times actually. He had a shrine thing with an STP oil sticker in the middle... it was what inspired the band to come up with a name for the letters. 2ndly he came up with BLACK VELVET REVOLVER . Everyone liked it buy wasnt 1000% on it!! Then after some disputes and debates, they all said "how about just VELVET REVOLVER" and.... as they say the rest is history or printed in ink!

The first incidence is cool, and Stone Temple Pilots is a great name for a rock band. However, to me the name Velvet Revolver is just a knock off of Guns*n*Roses, soft and hard at the same time, a weapon and something opposite. For GnR the concept fit at that time, though.

If you attended any anonymous meeting you know the great part of being clean and sober. Everyone has something they carry. If you enjoyed something to death -- death is on your door step. At least in sobriety decisions you make can comfort you instead of harm. Addiction is for life because of influence. Touch individuals if you really think you made a connection. Not all people are bad? In the least learn what bad is so someone can know something about you besides a statistic or record. Being fake is what kills.

😜💭 I don't understand why STP got so much flack for sounding like what was popular at the time. It's what they liked and how they wanted to sound. Every single music genera has a particular sound.. All the 80s hair bands sound the same, all the 80s country songs sound the same, the Golden oldies all sound the same.. So why were they singled out for sounding like 90s alternative music?? I loved them.. They're actually my number one grunge band and Scott was the sexiest man to me, especially during his early years when he had meat on his bones ❤❤❤❤

I was 19 at the time they broke. They just blew up a year later than Pearl Jam, Nirvana and the rest. The fact that Grunge was rooted in punk meant that everyone was obsessed with authenticity, so arriving a little late to the party made them suspect. Pretty dumb, but its how it was. Bush got it even worse.

Weiland being replaced by Staley is rough.

Yeah, who’s the dude that made that decision. I mean Scott was a notorious junky but if you look at Layne Staley anytime after 93 he looks horrible: thin, gloves and long shirts to cover track marks, bad teeth - let’s replace one guy who’s an addict with a deathwish with another guy who’s an addict with a bigger deathwish.

Another 90s icon gone too soon. The STP sound was one of a kind which is what differentiated that 90s sound from any other. Scott Weiland, Kurt Cobain, Layne Staley, Chris Cornell are all gone too soon. RIP.

People tried to help Scott and make him see the light but he didnt want to listen. Killed himself not even thinking about his wife and kids. What a human being he was. Same with Kurt Cobain. People love to idolize their rock gods and maybe they should stop doing that.

What you're saying here is very important, this dude was popping drugs for MANY years look at this MF's music videos. Assuming someone is straight is the worst thing to do when it comes to addiction. You NEVER fucking know. Was my favorite singer for a long time, still can't believe Scott is gone.

I would love to know what the record labels Death Clause was in Scott Weiland's record contract...I am sure it was a pretty big payout.

Your opening statement about not being able to "guarantee...the...accuracy of the content" is RIDICULOUS. Why put it out if it's not accurate? Oh, right...money grab b.s. Ok, Rock 'n' Roll TMZ...🙄 P.S.--Scott Weiland was a POSER.

Correction: They were NOT successful in the early 2000’s. The Shangri La album from 2001 flopped and only went gold. They tried to push days of the week as a single but it went nowhere.
