I had my knife show tables next to the owner of Rockstead two years in a row. He is a very nice and very humble guy. I was curious about why his knives were so expensive and he explained they were all handmade and they make less than 100 knives per year. That might have changed since then but it explains the high prices.

@@joshalmighty1901 You’re paying for their labor time to assemble their knives with a lot of care during the production process. Take Rolex as another example. It takes a Rolex watch about 12 months to go through the production process. Hence the high prices from the factory. It’s not just a watchmaker putting one together in 3 hours - which they can do.

I was fortunate enough to be able to get a Hizen and it’s more incredible than it looks in pictures if you’ve never held one yourself. It is absolutely a safe queen and not ashamed about it

Agreed on everything you said, for what they offer on this knife does not equate for the asking price. I own the Chi, and the blade shape is identical to this one, but a little smaller. It looks like a very good knife, and if I was going to get another Rocksteady it would probably be the Shi, and not this one.

I have a few Rockstead knives, and once you go to a mirror blade, it is so hard to want any knife without a mirror finish. It make such a difference that the blade is so sharp.

Wow, I’m surprised this wasn’t a home run, kinda shocked it wasn’t even a recommendation on your end. Thanks for the review, I’m saving up for a rockstead shu, but i think I can scratch the ren completely off the list now, the price was a little too high anyway. Hopefully we see rockstead reuse the blade shape for a new model someday

*_All 4 of my Rockstead's have that tighter action, but are buttery smooth!_* *_I would truly not want any of them to be fall-shut on bearings! Not with this type of knife!_* *_Sidefact.. My DLC SHIN has now cut through over 4,000 feet of cardboard.. it is still sharp!_*

Very similar to my now discontinued SHUN, including the price and appears to share the same unique pivot screw. I have six Rockstead, CHOU, RYO, SHIN,TEI and HIGO with iron wood handle. The most comfortable in hand feel is the iron wood handle HIGO comes without pocket clip.

I like the blue one better. Looks like the perfect edc size for me. Just not sure if I could spend that on one knife. Would love to see a review on the we cybernetic knida on the fence about my pre order.

Yep the scales look just like something from a Kershaw/ZT, that’s exactly what I thought when I first saw it. Very disappointing given the price. Blade is gorgeous tho

I can’t even say I’m interested in owning one of those. I think my xm-18 will be as high as I’m willing to go for a tool - shiny tools are cool, just not particularly practical.

it’s a nice knife for sure but most I would ever spend is like 600-700 for a Large sebenza with an inlay. It’s all about the law of diminishing returns.

Great looking knife. No doubt it will last a lifetime.. but until ima millionaire, probably will never spend even over a grand on a pocket knife. I’m shocked I’ve spend almost 400 on my Winterblade Factor tbh. Thanks MC!

If you missed the chance to own the Shun , well here is the next best thing. In a word were CPI has been compounding over the last 3 years and we are all poorer by at least 25% -40% , Rockstaed knife prices have remained stable . So really if your buying this or other Rockstaed knives your paying yesterdays prices with todays money . How long will it be until producing a knife of this quality will be 2 , 3 or 4 times the price or of lesses quality or a Japanese industrial complex unable to produce a product this fine. May just be a great place to park money. Swiss watches , American bourbon, Japanese knifes ,,,,, can you really go wrong ?

’m looking for a knife with specific qualities or characteristics that I’m not able to find on my own. Maybe it doesn’t exist but hopefully I can get some advise and direction? The qualities I’m looking for in a knife are: Small size, could be considered a mini by most companies Durable/utilitarian Has gimping Has a finger choil No serrations Preferably not a spine lock mechanism Preferably not a tanto blade shape

You might want to take a look at the Civivi / We Knife - Baby Banter. Knifecenter has a nice exclusive with S35VN steel for under $90. I believe it ticks all your boxes and it’s a really well done and really good looking knife. I own it myself as well.

Sorry but that two different material scales absolutely kills that Rockstead dead I know it a personal thing I just can’t and never will be able to get on with that sort of thing. It could be a 20k knife and you can keep it that different scales on the same knife is just disgusting in my strange brain. Have a beautiful day M_C stay safe and healthy brother 🫵😘👍

the reprofiling and sharpening is technically free but you have to pay for shipping to and from japan. and it takes like 2 months. i have a rockstead chou

Rockstead's website is pretty hilarious. You can tell whoever typed on it, English is a distant second language. Grammatical and spelling errors in every sentence. I've been wanting a Rockstead for a while, but now that I know they all run on washers gives me pause.

There's no specific extra value to washers or bearings. Both are extremely cheap individual things. One provides better action while the other keeps excess debris from the pivot. It's all preference

@@metal_complex Yeah I realize that. I don't actually use like 95% of my knives. I just admire them and fidget with them at my computer. I love good knife action. I think my favorite knife to fidget with, which isn't my most expensive by far, is the Reate K-4. It's just perfect in every way.

I wish more makers would use phosphor bronze washers. I kind of hate bearings. Sorry? Here's why: -They collect dust, grit/sand, and lint, and require disassembly and cleaning more than washer knives. -'Drop shut' action is dumb, IMO, and even a safety issue. -Loose bearings are still a thing, and should NOT be. -It's just more expensive to make, more moving parts, more to mess up, etc. -It 'excuses' less than excellent action and less than excellent part fitment because they roll and keep a blade centered more easily.

Now replacing a ti side with carbon fiber and charging $800-$900 more really shows how inflated this company’s EGO is. Yes they make great products, but to cheapen the materials and double the price?!?!! Come on!
