Geo💈💈 Nice shave. The Rockwell 6S and 6C are both great razors IMO, I have both and reach for the 6C more often due to a slightly smoother feel. Regardless, they give me a smooth face and it looks like they gave you one as well. I tried the soap and found it worked quite good with a pleasant scent. Great video, thanks. Enjoy!

Thanks for this and your Merkur Progress videos. After remembering your comment at 20:07 I tried a 6-3-1 shave with my Merkur Progress, but the results wouldn't have passed a cotton ball test. I usually start with an aggressive razor and end by lightly passing an even more aggressive razor to pick up any stragglers. For me, ending a shave with a very mild adjustable setting (or safety razor) sounds counter-intuitive -- even though one's skin might appreciate it! I wish I would have started my wet-shaving journey with an adjustable safety razor, instead of the commonly recommended Edwin Jagger DE89. The unrealized promise of a BBS shave with such a razor just led to more passes (and pressure) which led to razor burn. Thankfully a variety of adjustable (and other aggressive) safety razors, plus videos by you and others helped. Thanks!

Recently got the 6C and I'm really enjoying it. I actually shave twice a day (yes, with an ATG pass), using only water, on plate 2. However, I've noticed that it's difficult to get a BBS result on my cheeks - too many passes and too much pressure. So today i tried an ATG pass ONLY on my cheeks, using #4 - problem solved. So IMHO the idea of finishing with a more aggressive setting should at least be kept in mind, perhaps only for certain areas. Now, re #2 - this has been a game changer - i can really relax using this setting, and chuck it around with ease, like a cartridge. (yes, even using only water for my lubricant. Naturally i would use a normal lubricant when shaving off more growth)

The 6c and 6s is one of the most popular modern DE razors. As others have said, most people consider it more of an "selectable" or "interchangeable" Many consider it very comfortable even on higher settings, and use it as a "set and forget" razor. Or only adjust it based on the needs of that particular day. Vs. Exchanging them on each pass.

Just bought a 6C for quick shaves when I don't have time for my SR. Absolutely in LOVE with it. After using it, I don't see why disposables took off. Even with the best blade, they still have yet to match the quality or ease of the safety razor. Not to mention the cost is a fraction. I'll rarely use my Dovo now sadly.

I'm in love with mine too. It's funny - I know someone who HATES the huge markups of those expensive cartridges ("I know how much they cost to make"), yet he simply refuses to try a DE. He stretches the cartridges, and has actually cut himself quite badly. Now, personally, I actually think cartridges work well - I've had a "tug of war" over the years between cartridges & DEs. But with this fine 6C, which can go very mild, I doubt I'll ever go back.
@ewk_
@ewk_ 3 жыл бұрын
The argument for low to high is that removing less stubble in the early passes reduces the risk of nicks and cuts. Subsequent passes are working through less stubble, and are removing closer to the skin. The disadvantage is higher risk of irritation. That is the explanation I heard/read. I tried it, but prefer high to low myself.

In my opinion, this is the best the razor that I’ve used. I have a R41, 37c ( I think, the slant version) , a Parker variant, and I bought the 6c. I like the 6c so much I bought the 6s and gave the 6c as a gift to a friend. The 6c threading issue you were talking about as I think you stated isn’t really an issue. May be due to the coating I think. Changing the plates to me aren’t an inconvenience as it’s takes about 5 seconds maybe. I don’t use a towel to do it, never had any issues. The 6s stainless steel version has perfect threads. Once again I think due to the coating on the 6c the threads may be thicker. This razor is as efficient as my r41 but way way way smoother. Not even a comparison as far as smoothness goes. It doesn’t feel aggressive but the hair is gone. Serious so really well made razors. I just stick with a 5 plate mostly. I can see why some people a go with a 1,3,6 though. The way my hair grows on my face it doesn’t matter how aggressive a razor is with the grain or even across the grain it still removes the same amount or growth. But my against the grain pass has to be fairly aggressive to get a baby butt smooth shave. If it’s to mild it’s take way to many passes. I have pretty coarse whiskers.
@JonBonesJones84
@JonBonesJones84 3 жыл бұрын
It's seriously overrated how men perceive this as more aggressive than R41 with the plate on. I shaved with the 6S with the 6 cap and while it was smooth, it wasn't even remotely aggressive. I did 4-5 passes with it, too. I have to shave trouble spots on my neck that I shave several times.
@richardpartin9378
@richardpartin9378 3 жыл бұрын
@@JonBonesJones84 the r41 feels way more aggressive. So I perceive the r41 to be more aggressive. BUT, it doesn’t take anymore hair off my face. I think it may have a lot to do with how the hair on your face grows, maybe. But for me it takes just as much hair off my face as a R41. I have even used straights and shavettes and get the same outcome.

Geo, Thanks for the awesome content! I had a question for you that might resolve some issues with my technique, and maybe help some other de shavers as well. When I have been told light touch, no pressure, let the razor do the work, what does that truly mean? When I get to my chin area, I do feel some tugging when I am not applying pressure Just wondering if you reiterate what that means? Thank you!

You’re like a damn surgeon with this razor. Lol I just got mine, yesterday. Plate 1 didn’t seem to do much. Can’t remember plate 2. Plates 3 seemed the best for me. Plate 4 seemed a little aggressive. With that said, I don’t think I’ll try plate 5 or 6, unless I have heavy growth.

Great review! Wish I'd seen this a few months ago before I bought a Merkur 34G. I thought those were for sensitive skin which they are not: Since I started wet shaving four months ago, I've gone through numerous brands of blades and nothing has gone well--with maybe the exception of German made Wilkinson Sword blades. Even with those, there were would be some burn. This morning I virtually gave up on wet shaving and planned on returning to Schick Hydro 5 which never gave me a problem. Then I came across your video...I might still have issues, but it still has the sensitive skin option. Only thing is: now I'm going to have to go through all the blades again to find the best one for me. Mileage varies...

Are adjustable safety razors as aggressive as muhle R41? 🤔🤔
@borbetomagus
@borbetomagus 3 жыл бұрын
They can be. With the Merkur Futur adjustable you can even unlock the razor's set restriction at level '6', so it extends to '12' and beyond (to cavernous blade gaps). If attempting to do so craziness, one has to be careful the razor is securely holding the blade to avoid any dangerous mishaps. Still, level '6' should be adequate for most. If not, the iKon Tech is more aggressive than the Mühle R41 -- and one of the most aggressive non-adjustable razors out there. Some single edge razors using Feather Artist Club blades (which are thicker) may be more efficient work as well (in the right single edge razor) and don't seem as harsh as the iKon Tech. I'd recommend the RazoRock Hawk V3 Open Comb single edge razor (which some have said is more aggressive than the 'Aggressive' model) with a Feather 'Super Professional' (which is Feather's most aggressive single edge blade). As long as you're gentle with your technique, you should get a very efficient and comfortable shave. Maybe one day ShaveNation will carry other single edge (Feather Artist Club-style) razors, in addition to the Feather Artist Club straight razors they currently carry.

Is it because I emptied to much water from my brush that it didn’t lather as much as you?
@nthdegree1269
@nthdegree1269 Ай бұрын
@@jonathanroy7582He has videos on lathering and water/brushes etc. sometimes when there's too much product you need a little bit more water and sometimes if there's too much water you'll need a little bit more product You have to find that balance. Just learn how to work with your brush whether it's synthetic or badger. There's lots of good videos on shave angle and all those things as well and how to use as little pressure as possible. Shave oil is a personal preference. Some people like to use a glycerin type of pre-shave. I sometimes use extra virgin coconut oil although some people says they can clog pores. I never had that issue other people use grapeseed. Or they buy a pre-shave oil. I also have a regular pre-shave oil I bought as well. Depends on the day. Another trick you can use is with the soap or cream you are going to lather with...you can take a small amount in your hand, wipe it all over your face and add water to it and use that as a preshave. Then apply your lather on-top
