I loved flying this aircraft. It's a flying box. But the weapons capability far exceeded it's goals. Machine guns, check, bobmbs, check, cannon, check, sidewinders, check, air to ground missiles, check, can carry a drop team or injured people, check. Low and slow. I have landed on a carrier with no arresting gear, dirt field, highway. It could do it all and for a long time. Plane was built for stamina.

With the U.S. looking at new light attack aircraft like the super tucano and the air tractor why not continue the use of this aircraft in that role given it's proven qualities?

I built a replica of this plane for Empyrion: Galactic Survival. Players love flying this Vietnam War relic on other planets. Available on steam workshop.

I don't remember the OV-10 carrying sidewinders. Sure it could carry rocket pods gun pods and bombs including Napalm.
@marknelson7829 Жыл бұрын
@@michaelbenjmitchell1 They did that with the old A model, all the way up to the D. By the time they were done the electronics , engines, and if needed the 20 mm turret. Which I believe came off a Cobra? hooked up to a FLIR. Don't know if I can find videos of that.

We had 6 on board the Theodore Roosevelt CVN-71 when we left the states headed for the Middle East before Deasert Storm. As we got there, we lonched them the first day of the war. No catapults just rolled about 10 feet and lifted off the deck.

We used the bronco in Vietnam to drop special forces out of rear fuselage. Occasionally we used them to mark exfil High value target pickup up points for jolly green but more often a AC-110. I'm more effective in the OV-1, a Mohawk. Our fob was named Apache junction. I switched to a Loach because the Huey's we're going down to often.

If this is such a great design, why don't we see it being used a lot more often? What are the disadvantages of the tail? I'm not criticizing it, I just don't understand. Looks like great visibility, STOL and agility, so why not more popular?

I know it seems like a dream but you would think this plane should have never been retired in fact I think they might still have a role as crop dusters I know so cal fire used them as spotting planes I know that they where used recently to fight issues and the Philippine military may still use them I just don't understand why things get retired when it works and keeps working
