Rocky was not serious at training but he was in shape despite the open to crowd training and the many distractions.Mick watched Clubber a long time before the fight so he knew his style.He advised Rocky not to go at him but to run around and make him tired and that he had never fought many rounds.I bet if Mick was in his corner would guide him to use stick and move approach.Rocky was also not concentrated and a title match without a coach in his corner was a crime.So Mick should not force him to go and fight without him

I believe the reason Clubber was letting Rocky punch away at him in the beggining was cause, even though he was certain he was going to win, he didnt want people doubting his defeat. So people wont start wondering that Rocky may have won if he had got a chance to hit him back.

This scene alone is a cinematic masterpiece

Rocky's whole world crumbled right there, his father figure Mickey died, he lost, his confidence gone into minus zero, he realized he was living a lie since he beat Apollo, Mickey protected him, his fame made him lose the Eye of Tiger/Ambition, and then, a hell of a beating, gonne from a place near the Sun to a black hole where light doesn't shine...

Dr.:He needs medical attention right away! Rocky:Just let me have this touching seen first.

If you notice in both fights, Clubber only starts his vicious attacks when his trainer yells and gives him the signal.

The sad thing with this match is that it's so unrealistic that it makes the quality worse. See, those hits Rocky landed in the begining of the match would have knocked out almost any boxer, or at least hurt them badly. Later in the match, Clubber lands lots of puches as well, and by the end of the round Rocky seems to be done fore it while Clubber seems like he just got a bit tired. I know it's a movie and all but yeah.

Though Clubber lost in the rematch. I think he was Rocky's only opponent who ever beat him by knock out.

This fight is very much like Creed vs Drago in Rocky 4 I think that's what sly intended it to be like. Apart from the fact that Rocky survives. During the car scene in Rocky 4 when he's thinking back, the hit that clubber gives Rocky that knocks him out in Rocky 3 matches the hit that Drago gives Apollo in Rocky 4 as they fall to the ground

In an earlier scene you heard Mickey talk about the fighters Rocky easily defeated when defending the title and the same applies to Rocky here: "Good fighter, but not a Killer." He wasn't bad but he simply didnt have the deciding edge he needed to win against someone like Clubber.

The scene between rocky and mick is so unique and epic, today no one can't repeat this in the movies

Clubber Lang was only who sent Rocky to KO, but in this fight Rocky was in baddest shape during entire career + he worried about Mick.

All of the rockys are master pieces the scene at the end where Micky dies was something brilliant by sly

What's funny about this scene is that clubber was trash talking creed to death and Apollo took all that without flinching. In rocky 4 the total reverse happened with the drago press conference where creed was doing all the trash talking and drago just kept quiet without yelling back and didn't even give Apollo any dirty looks. What a drastic character change between the 2 movies there. With all that said rocky completely threw this 1st match with clubber as he was totally worried about mick and he wanted to see how mick was doing right way so rocky was totally distracted and anyone can see that. That's why this match should have at least been rescheduled to another day under the circumstances that played out. It's the same thing like if a boxer or any competitor for that matter had a death in the family the same day they were competiting. Under these circumstances there are exceptions which could have easily been followed through but for some reason rocky still wanted to continue with the fight right away which was a mistake on his part.

Two reasons why heavyweight champion boxer Rocky Balboa lost the fight against the challenger Clubber Lang are:1) Rocky did not take his course of training seriously before the fight. 2) Rocky didn't have his trainer/manager Mickey in his corner to back him up. So you see Clubber Lang had captured Rocky's fear and won the champ's title. RIP Mickey Goldmill & Burgess Meredith👼😂.
