Grew up in NYC 🗽 but fell in love with Colorado when I saw it "raining fire in the sky"! Stationed @ Ft. Carson while away in the 'field' (close to the mountains) doing our training. On guard duty in the middle of the night I saw it "raining fire in the sky" what a sight! Meteors? Falling stars?... Beautiful 🌟

In 1972,it was the first time i seen the Rockies .I was hitch hiking from New England across the trans Canadian until I hit Jasper Alberta. I truly felt like I was coming home to a place I never been before. When i first came to the mountains my life was far away on the road ,hanging by a song. Love this song ,51 years later.

I hitched hiked from Tampa Florida to Denver in 1975! I camped in Rocky Mountain National Park and felt at home and at peace. What I learned there stayed with me my whole life. I joined the army that same year and went to West Germany. Another awesome experience!

We are cut from the same cloth. Camped cross country- 1973- 10 weeks- quit my job- left Cleveland,Ohio heading West. This song was a staple on my 8 track tape deck. Eager to see what John was singing about heightened my anticipation. As I began the graduated foothills from the East (there’s still a memory rush as I write) my 4 cylinder car felt the gravity. And then POP there they were around a bend! Majestic spikes with smatterings of snow … and yes- I saw an eagle fly in those days. The adventure set my course in life. This song will forever be my initiate motif. I wasn’t quite 21. Road trips - modern day quests. Are they popular in todays sanitized world?🦅🦅⛺️🏔️

Although he's describing a meteor shower in the song while camping the reality of it is simple. "Friggin Paradise" What a musical genius. Am I wrong? And just for good measure, Rocky Mountain High was released on October 30 1972, Almost 50 years ago. Thank you John Denver, I so appreciate your music. Rest Easy Great One.........

I will always love this song. A classic from my Jr. High years when everything was so simple. I’m from Texas, we have large hills & a few shorter mountains, both tall enough though to feel a temperature change if you reach the tops, but nothing at all like the Rockies. Give me a snow peaked mountain reflecting in a placid lake over a sandy beach with a clear blue ocean any day.

“I know he’d be a poorer man if he never saw a eagle fly” That part left me to pieces. I’m still young, 18 years old. For the past 2 years I’m working so hard on my future, I’m spending my life 24/7 working and studying more and more. I’m tired, I’m wanderlust. And even tho I’m gaining money, I feel poor. My heart and soul yearns for the mountains, rivers and forests, roads and oceans. I always dreamed of exploring this beautiful world that God gave me, and instead I’m trapped in a office and college all day.

Is it possible to perhaps take a year off school to work and save, then travel a bit before going back to school? A reset if you will; just to change up the drudgery of the daily grind. Nothing is impossible if you believe in yourself and remain humble and kind. Shoot for the stars ✨

@@dozzer009 not for now… but I’m changing my job for a remote only position, and with a more flexible schedule! Thank God for that, last Saturday I did a awesome hiking here, it was a awesome time! I looked at the nature and the view and felt like I’m living again. Thanks for the comment!

This song pretty much shaped my life. I grew up in Wyoming, received 12 years of higher education and went back to Montana. There was never any doubt or wavering. Yes, I could have made a lot more money or attained greater “success” elsewhere- but why? What’s it all for? The hallowed halls of academia hold nothing in comparison to the cathedral mountains.

I once had a business trip to Cheyenne in Wyoming and I found its next to Colorado. So I drove to Denver one Sunday and also visited Rocky Mountain national park, enjoying John Denver’s ‘Rocky Mountain high’ while driving and I was feeling so good!

Amazing this song actually got banned from some radio stations , I am guessing the like "Friends around the Campfire and everyone is high" lead a few misguided souls to believe this song was about smoking weed. God Bless John Denver and for his speaking out against censorship at the mid 80's PMRC hearings.

People who think/thought that... Are/were "Narrow Minded People." John was speaking of one of two Things... Either he was referring to the clean and High Oxygen levels up in The Colorado Mountains. Or The High of Smoking a Little Cannabis... Look at Colorado now. IF Cannabisbis was/is sooo bad...The Creator wouldn't have Created the herb. In my humble Opinion. Medical Cannabis User.

Surely misguided souls fits perfectly. I get high on nature, a starry night sky can blow my mind away, no need to smoke weed or anything else.

Those lyrics in the Thumbnail: "And they say that he got crazy once and tried to touch the sun and he lost a friend but kept the memory" to me is a little haunting, could it have been an omen? Most of us know JD died while testing an experimental aircraft he just purchased hence the line: "he got crazy once and tried to touch the sun" and then his tragic death hence the line: " he lost a friend but kept the memory" We all lost a friend when he died and will never forget him, idk? that's what I get out of those lyrics.
