Rocky Mountain Bighorn Sheep (Ovis canadensis).
Arapaho: hóho'eniinóte' meaning “mountain sheep”
Lakota: hechinshkayapi/chinyapi
Bighorn sheep are large wild sheep observed most often in herds of ewes and lambs and bachelor herds. Rams are characterized by large curved horns which are used as weapons to obtain dominance during the rutting season. Ewes also have small horns.
Females produce one lamb in June or July, sometimes twins.
The sheep are both browsers and grazers.
