This journey wasn't but it is now. In England I commuted to work by train every day and went to London a couple of times a year-not interesting. Since I emigrated I have only made one train journey from Martinsburg to Pittsburgh but it is a doozy as the train goes through the Appalachian Forest with some astonishing views-a marvelous experience.. Yours was a very exciting journey and I look forward to Part 2.

I LOVED this video….( And it’s just the FIRST one ) …. Here’s why…. …. It has all the detailed info in it that answers every question you might possibly have…! …From meal menus….to special train features...(LOVED THEM ALL!)...to breathtaking scenery seen ONLY on this train. I have watched similar videos on feature trains the world over …. This is the best….! …. (Like having your best friend tell you the REAL STUFF about why you should ride this train)….!

I loved reliving this journey (we took it exactly one year ago) with you, Eileen and Marc. Your enthusiasm and fun spirit makes me wish you had been in our cabin. A small group of very ill-behaved (entitled and drunk) seniors put a damper on an otherwise spectacular journey for us, but not so much that we don’t look back fondly on the spectacular sights and service. 🙌😘

Hello! Heartfelt thanks for such a lovely compliment ❤That's so neat you've done the Rocky Mountaineer! Which route did you take? I'm sincerely sorry to hear that your trip was dampened by those badly behaved people. It's always disappointing (to say the least) when that happens. Glad that you can still look back with fondness on the overall experience. The service was really top tier and everyone in our carriage commented on it (as well as the food!).

What an opportunity. Big yes to the delicious meals too. I want to go on this awesome train more than ever. Meantime, I'll be watching this video over and over to enjoy the ride along with you both. Thank you! Day 2 will be posted tomorrow so you don't have to wait long...! ;) I agree that seeing things only visible from the train route is very special. I kept thinking about the people who built the railway tracks and how incredibly difficult it must have been. We owe them a debt of gratitude. The Rocky Mountaineer is fabulous and I know you would love it! All punctuated by visits to the dining car and snacks in your seat...yum! 😄

It was my dream too, but then … it was in reality a nightmare 30+ hours mostly on a series of crammed buses and the meals were just boxes of dry junk food. The fires in BC closed both the rails and the highway. It was a massive waste of time and money. Just glad it is over! Didn’t see any of the Rocky Mountains our bus went through them after dark. I paid for gold leaf service and got a bus ride. Typical bus ride from Vancouver to Banff cost $200 and is done in 1/3 the time. Just want my money back

What a wonderful journey! I was particularly fascinated about the outdoor viewing deck. One thing about train travel is that your vista from inside - even with the wraparound overhead windows - can give you the feeling of being „near“ your surroundings as opposed to being in them, kind of like being in a moving 3D theater. I love the thought of being immersed in the surroundings in this outdoor space, including the smells, being able to poke your head out and look forward and back, experience the wind in your face, and get pictures without the glare or spots on the windows. We’ve always been ones to plan our trips independently instead of purchasing package tours of any kind. One of the major inhibitions that we have about such tours is the „fancy“ dining, which unfortunately is wasted on us for a few reasons. The most significant is our dietary restrictions, which have only become more complicated over time. We don’t like being the complicated customers or being lumped in with those who have loads of „lifestyle“ dietary demands. You might know the kind: people who insist that everything is gluten free, then order a beer. So, it was reassuring to know that the staff is very flexible about dietary needs. I’ve traveled to many countries for pleasure and work, but have never traveled very far west of the Eastern time zone in the States. The Rockies has always fascinated me. As a former skiing enthusiast, I’ve always considered the Rockies to be a skier‘s Mecca, but our parents always took us in the other direction, to Vermont and Austria instead. Also great places to ski.
@EileenAldis
@EileenAldis 9 ай бұрын
Thanks for sharing this! I totally agree about the outdoor viewing deck. What a wonderful bonus to have total exposure to the environment and be able to use all 5 senses to take in the scenery. And doubly nice to be able to retreat, if needed, to a warmed seat and a warm cuppa! ;) I was really impressed with all the dining options and the flexibility of tailoring things to suit personal need or preference. Sounds like it would be a workable option! If you love to ski then you've got to visit the Rockies someday! Whistler is a super popular spot but there are so many beautiful hills. I "tried" snowboarding at Lake Louise once at Marc's behest 😂

As an American, I have only been to Canada a dozen times. I know some a “dozen times” sounds like a lot but for a country a huge as Canada, really is a dozen even scratching the surface? I have yet to take the Rocky Mountaineer trans-Canadian journey. I’m getting old, so had better get going, right? Thanks for letting us “arm chair” travelers tag along! 👍

Hi! Glad you enjoyed it! That's great you've visited Canada so many times. :) Whereabouts in the US are you from? I'm curious where in Canada you've been so far... Sounds like you need to do the Rocky Mountaineer next haha...they also have a route in the US that looks incredibly scenic. If you'd like to see day 2 of this journey from Jasper to Vancouver our second video is here by the way: bit.ly/rockymountaineerday2 Hope you enjoy!

@@EileenAldis - I live in Denver, Colorado. I was born here. Moved back after college. Will probably kick the bucket here. Speaking of college, I want to Syracuse and during my four years there we went often drove to Toronto and Niagara Falls for vacation. I fell in love with a town in Ontario, Niagara-on-the-Lake, and often dreamt about living there. I did read about the train which travels between Denver and Moab, Utah. Have you plans to experience it? I am getting old and have a number of Canada-related items on my ‘bucket list’: Visiting all the Maritimes, Christmas in Québec City, a languid summer on Victoria Island. On a personal note, I particularly enjoyed your uploads from Taiwan. As a gay man, I appreciate the significant strides the Taiwanese government/people have made setting themselves preeminent (to me, at least) of all Asian countries in making folks like me welcome. I have already contacted the travel agency at AAA to see if I can book two weeks in Taipei in spring. I will cite your awesome recommendations when I get there!

wow wow wow....Is booking through their site the only way and which package do you recommend? What months do you think is perfect to go (no rain)? thank you for any info you could provide!

@EileenAldis Ай бұрын
All great questions! I think it depends what you're looking for when it comes to packages. We loved this Jasper to Vancouver route but the Banff to Vancouver route is very popular as well. You can do Goldleaf or Silverleaf service (upstairs or downstairs seating) and both include the same menus. I think the fall would be great with the changing colours but of course warmer times of year are glorious too. Best to contact Rocky Mountaineer and they'll have more details :) www.rockymountaineer.com/

Three cheers for Calgary, Alberta! 🙌 We haven't been to the Stampede for years but it'd be fun to come again and make a video about it :) Did you go this year? I've only been once but Marc used to go growing up and has a lot of fond memories of it.

Hi.. I really enjoyed your video. Lynn and I are doing the Colorado Trip from Denver to Moab in September and are really looking forward to it. Just curious, what camera are you using to shoot your video? I am a photographer and I am really looking forward to this trip for the photography opportunity in addition to the rail experience.. Happy travels.

@@EileenAldisthe bonus in "silver leaf" is that you do not have to navigate those tricky stairs. Everything comes to you at your seat. Same delicious food, same great service. Mom and I loved our trip in 2021.

@eileenaldis did you experience any smoke? I'm considering going next month, but having second thoughts because of the wildfires.

Hi Christine! That’s great you’re considering the trip. We didn’t experience smoke, more just cloudiness and some rain on our journey (the “journey through the clouds” 🙃). It’s hard to say with the volatility of the wildfires. Good luck deciding and hope you have a wonderful time if you decide to go 😊 We also made a video of the second half of our journey with more information if you’d like to check it out: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/qpePe8Vk27zDhHk.html

It's possible to take the Rocky Mountaineer back to Vancouver. You could also fly from Calgary or Edmonton or drive a one-way rental car. There may be bus service but I'm not sure.
