From the Grand Dragon to known KKK appointees in the police, mayor and governor offices, Colorado once had the 2nd largest Ku Klux Klan membership in the United States. Discover the sordid history of the KKK in Colorado and the impact they had on Catholics, Jews and African Americans in early 1920s, and the courageous individuals who fought against their establishment.

Roman Divinity Maybe if they were trick-or-treating, but grown men who dress like ghosts on days other than Halloween are pretty stupid.

I watched black klansman I had no idea about this, I'm 30 I think in school in a history class or social studies class this should be made known. This story was sad but excellent at the same time.

Excellent: informative and insightful. We can’t undo our past, but must learn from our mistakes in judgement and hateful acts. Hate is so powerful and should be used against issues that threaten humanity: cancer, environmental deterioration, and prejudice. Thank you for the post 👍

I lived in Denver from 1990 till 2010. Back in the early years, I always heard of the KKK clashing or some sort of violence going on in downtown Denver. Things calmed down over the years and by the time I left, I don't think the KKK were big or influential.

One of my co-workers was a really friendly white guy who took me aback when he described himself as a white supremacist. He was pretty chatty to me and a Eurasian girl. We never felt threatened by him... guess it helped that we talked about mundane things... bowling, food, whatever...

Rice Means (KKK Governor of colorado) GOP Means served during the First World War as a lieutenant colonel and commandant of the Fortieth Division School of Arms, and was commander in chief of the Army of the Philippines in 1913 and of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in 1914. He was attorney for the City and County of Denver in 1923 and 1924. He was a member of the Ku Klux Klan, which was politically powerful in Colorado in the mid-1920s, and with Klan backing, he was elected as a Republican to the United States Senate on November 4, 1924, filling the vacancy caused by the death of Samuel D. Nicholson

So much cringe in these comments. I live in Colorado now and its the least racist place I have ever been to. I saw WAY more racism in California. PC cultural marxism fuels this hatred.

Valeriya Welsh people are racist in Cali because gangs are soooooo bad. People are racist in Colorado because the Klan had and still has a prominent presence. I'd rather face Cali's racism. Colorado is a Klan Haven.

Wrong, Colorado had klansmen in both parties but then again you are pretty ignorant to the fact. The second wave of the KKK crossed party lines Rice Means was a Colorado GOP Klansman
