In part one of a three-part webinar series about no-till and rotational tillage, a panel of farmer and research experts discusses the use of cover crops in organic no-till and rotational tillage grain systems.
They discuss best practices for cover crop selection and functions in no-till systems and innovative equipment for weed suppression and soil health management. See how a roller-crimper and inter-row rollers can work in your operation!
The panel includes Dr. Andrew Smith of Rodale Institute, Dr. John Wallace of Penn State Extension, Dean James of Cotner Farms, and Andy Flinchbaugh of Flinchbaugh Family Farms.
We thank Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture, Northeast SARE, and Penn State Extension for their support.

Can't you just leave the hairy vetch? It seems to be a low going plant that corn would soon outstrip. Will it climb the corn and pull it down or something?

It's apparent to me that so much is still very experimental and largely unknown, yet it's still permitted and largely unchallenged as people largely speak in absolutes and largely dictate what's true, when in reality it's not true because other possibilities exist that contradict what's expressed as absolute truth - but such is one of the biggest problems of humanity, in my opinion and in my experience; it seems to me that we can't agree on how to talk to each other, so I don't think people will figure out how to help others solve farming issues that are still occuring and now changing mostly for worse - any time soon.

I think you are completly wrong. There are some in the industry that have very useful and effective solutions to growing crops that are less reliant on degrading and expensive inputs, and have found the ear of many more around the globe, and the next generationwill help this industry evolve further. The rodale institute is a case in point.

Keep watching the soul health and regenerative ag stuff. You'll see the possibilities. The main effect of using a constant living root in the soil is to capture maximum sunlight so plants will create carbon through photosynthesis and place it in the soil. The benefits are exponential!
