I had the 4th gen used it mildly for 3 years, one day, recently, it stopped working. I went to the Rode website registered my mic and sent them an email about the problem, they responded very quickly and they are sending me a replacement with the new 5th gen. There customer support and product quality is really good. I didn't have any problems with the quality of the 4th gen but the new features of the 5th gen looks quite impressive.

Hey Mostafa Bakhtiari! It really comes down to personal preference. If you prefer mics with more of a neutral sound, and you don't mind investing in an audio interface, then go with the 4th Generation amzn.to/3BUuKfy . However, if you prefer microphones with a brighter tone and you want to save money by using a USBC cable to connect it straight into your computer, then go with the 5th Gen amzn.to/3YYh8sd . Personally, I prefer the sound of the 4th Gen on my voice but the 5th gen is more cost effective. Hope this helps!

can I ask how long you've had your 4th gen? Rode has changed the frequency response chart for the NT1 4th gen. It now mirrors that of the 5th gen. I just bought an 4th gen NT1 but am finding it more sibilant than I expected. I'm wondering if they have changed the spec of the NT1 4th gen. and the newer ones sound more like the 5th gen. thank you for your video!
@homestudioacademy
@homestudioacademy 4 ай бұрын
I’ve owned the 4th gen for the past 3 years. Yes, I believe they have changed the charts in their website but based on the sound and the spec sheet that came in my original box, the 4th gen has more of a neutral/warm response while the 5th gen has a brighter sound.
@AdmiralBoots
@AdmiralBoots 4 ай бұрын
Since you have a slightly older one, could I suggest you do a comparison between a newly purchased 4th gen and yours? Listening to your vid and others, I agree. I like the neutral sound of the 4th gen which is why i bought one. It sounds very good and I’m happy with it but it is brighter more sibilant than expected. Now that I see this different chart on their website (mic did not come with a spec sheet) I’m wondering if they’ve made a change to the 4th gen. Want to figure this out before the return window closes. Thanks for your awesome video.

It's pretty evident that rode probably did cheap out on components for the NT1 5th generation and thus the sound quality is not as good as the 4th gen. They are now saying that these are the same microphones and have even replaced the frequency response graph of 4th gen with the 5th gen's graph 😐 Anyways, thank you for the video. The 4th gen sounds cleaner and clearer and the 5th Gen is a bit harsh imo.
@homestudioacademy
@homestudioacademy Жыл бұрын
They sound close in my opinion, but at the end of the day I agree and I prefer the 4th gen due to its more neutral response. However, for most people trying to just get into recording, the USBC cable on the 5th Gen eliminates $100 by not needing to buy an audio interface which is very appealing for people on a budget.

Are you sure though you compare 4th Gen. To 5th Gen? Maybe yours is actually the 3rd gen? Because if you go to the website of RODE and click on the data sheet link of the NT1 you’re getting a data sheet, where the response pretty much is identical to the 5th Gen. Granted, there are also links to a data sheet, where the response is flatter. Did you check, which generation you actually have? After all, the 5th generation was the first to have its generation put into the name. Maybe, the 4th generation is the one that comes with the SM6 mount, instead of the SMR, and the mount wasn’t the only thing that changed?
