Rode PodMic USB review and tests on a phone and more!

This is my review of the ‪@rodemic‬ Podmic USB. A surprisingly awesome dynamic broadcast microphone which has some excellent hidden features. It offers both XLR and USB connection options but also has a high-gain Revolution Preamp and APHEX digital signal processing technology packed inside which results in ultra low noise capture. The Rode PodMic USB is plug and play on a variety of devices and I used it here while hooked up to my phone to demo just how easy and impressive that is. Or you can download the various apps ( RØDE Connect, RØDE Central, RØDE Capture and UNIFY) and use it with those. Alternatively you can use and XLR cable and hook it up to something like the Rodcaster Pro 2 for superior audio options.

To my ears, the XLR interface sounds even richer and more resonant. But a great sounding mic in any case. Its on my mental wishlist.

I know you didn't play around with the settings on PC but I think a cool feature is that the settings, while manipulated on computer, are stored in the mic itself so you can take them with you from device to device.

For all of you having problems with plugging it in to iPhone / iPad, they said you have to have some type of dongle

I have tried my android, iPad pro. I can not get this darn mic to work. Driving me crazy. Any suggestions? Went into my android changed camera settings for mic. Still nothing. My ipad same thing. Garage band to see if it would work. Nope!

Great video. Would this be the right mic for playing a song on the guitar with vocals ? Will it capture both sounds fairly decently - from an amateurs perspective ?

This is a great mic. The one thing that's kind of holding me back is a dedicated mute button. I wish they had a physical mute button on the mic so that I can instantly mute should I need to.

is the audio in the review recorded trought the rode podmic? I want to know why the birds are listening in the video, I just boguth a wave xlr and dynacaster and i have the same problem and I dont know if this is normal or my equipment is broken. Could you please see me two videos samples and tell me your opinion? is my first time with a dynamic microphone so I fell very sad believing I got broken stuff.

I want to set up 4 to run simultaneously to phone or laptop...nobody can seem to answer this.

@@aarontsika1519if you're using the XLR output then totally! Just get a USB audio interface that has 4 XLR inputs. Then it's super easy and everything can be separated into 4 different tracks. If you mean using USB, that's super complicated and difficult and has lots of downsides. Computers do not appreciate having multiple USB microphones plugged in, mainly because their sound cards are not designed for it. There is software that allows you to set up and configure multiple USB microphones on one laptop. However, there are frequently bugs and one of the major downsides is that everything will be recorded to one track. If you are already looking at buying four microphones, that is a pretty sizeable investment already. So i would say definitely use XLR and pick up a robust USB audio interface that has four XLR inputs. Depending on which one you get, you can get a quality one that will last a long time without adding too much cost to your setup between the XLR cables and the audio interface. I was using USB microphones for the longest time, and I just switched over to a XLR dynamic microphone and the level of granularity and quality is so much nicer. You will thank yourself later
