Rodenberg SL OD (Steve Lukather Signature Overdrive!)
I really like Steve Lukather's playing. He's just great. So is his signature overdrive pedal good? I really have high hopes for this. It promises to be a properly built, very versatile, and not terribly expensive overdrive. Let's see how the Rodenberg fares.

Amazing pedal Elmo! I totally understand the benefits of having the built in noise gate, it really simplifies things unless you have a noise gate you like. I look forward to more videos Elmo!

Great review! I have Rodenberg's TB Drive Shakedown Special, which is an SLO without the boost section (I use an Xotic SP compressor as a clean boost). I previously owned a Rodenberg Lee Ritenour Signature Overdrive which was a predecessor of the SLO some 15 years ago. I unfortunately lost it in the devastating Wooroloo Bushfire last year. The Rodenberg products are of great quality, I can highly recommend them.

This internet thing is amazing When I was a kid we barely had long distance telephones. So, I'm listening to this guy playing a guitar thousands of miles East and reading your comment from near Perth, Australia. So, it makes me wonder. "What kind of guitar pedals will they have in 100 years?" I like the Van Gogh thing too. Thanks for the fine review!✌

Bought one immediately after this review, really great pedal, definitely noisy, but nothing that can't be sorted! Sounds great with an EBMM Luke but funnily enough even better with my 90's Japan Fender YJM, although that seems to bring the best out of every pedal. Great video, as always!

Good review. As always. I also like the Styman better. I actually just prefer the tone of the Stryman. The noise gate is also a great reason though and just one less pedal to go wrong. Glad to hear you play some old Aerosmith. 😂 What I grew up listening to and learning from. Joe Perry is just awesome stuff. 🤘.. I'm thinking of trying to SD1s with my Reverend Kingsnake tube amp 60/20. I think the best overdrive or distortion pedal you've tried for me as a listener was the revv. What a killer gain sound. Thanks again for these videos kind sir and I hope you and yours are well my friend. 🤘♥️🤘♥️

Dear Elmo, I really like your natural and honest manner. You often find reviews, e.g. from DBG (Darrell Braun Guitar) where every product is actually great, but with the best will in the world this can't be the case, can it? I'll put the Rodenberg SL OD on my wish list, but first I need to reach a level of knowledge that it's worth it. I just started this spring with a Yamaha Pacifica 112V and a VOX VT40X, and in 3 weeks a Larry Carlton T7 FM TBL is coming to my arsenal. Please continue as before, independent and neutral. Thanks! Yeah, I find that to be a bit strange as well. It's like there's very little middle ground, and almost nothing is terrible. That's just basically impossible.

Nice warm sounding overdrive. Sounds close to an exclusive inbuilt gain channel in a valve head amplifier. The Rodernberg especially sounds great on the neck pickup of the HB Les Paul. I'm hearing a bit of Gary Moore/Slash. November Rain tone especially! Definitely beats a Joyo pedal, hands down!

Super useful review and awesome playing as well! So, the forementioned luthier friend, do you know if he still owns the SL OD (or did you sell the pedal at all)? I’m asking as I’m seriously considering to buy one myself, but I’d like to give it a brief test drive first. My whereabouts are in Helsinki region, so I’m having high hopes to arrange such test drive against Juhlamokka, Jaloviina or something more practical.

I've been considering the yngwie yjm stacked humbuckers for my strat but if you need a noise gate with them maybe I should just keep my stock single coils 🤷‍♂️

The noise is not down to the pickups. That's the rest of the rig. The pickups are quiet.

The Riverside w footswitch 4 boost > Rodenberg👌🏾 bottom line is that you can boost, goose both of the Riverside Channels, so I’m not really missing the ability to stack the drives. Plus the noise gate is a no-brainer not to mention the tone switch up top to adjust to different amps… the Riverside is a well thought out killer what I call Distortion/ OD pedal🤘🏾 great playing, tones as always

Haven't tried either. I always say, try before you buy. Guitars are individuals. With Harley Benton you can always send them back if you don't like them.

I find it really irritating that you don't demo drive pedals with a clean tone. We all know they respond differently trough a clean amp compared to a amp on the edge of drive

Steve has his gain set to 3 o’clock on his Bogner all the time and uses his pedals on top of that, so this demo had even less gain than how it was intended to be used :)

Good review, as always... but "Meeehhh" on the pedal... plus, even as a young teenager in the early 1980's I could never ever rock out to "Rosanna"... sorry, but true.
