Nope, that would not work. I am willing to be serious money that the self destruct password is something entirely different(talk about a security risk) those types of passwords are created by a cryptographer to be as hard to break or guess as possible. You would not get to choose your password for the self-destruct, you are given it for security purposes

I don't. It makes the character feel like a Mary Sue. He's a great military tactician, amazing soldier, looks like a male model AND is MENSA-level intelligent? It's silly.

@@reprobatic5485 Agreed. There are many things that make him seem mary sue-ish, but he also have a great many negative traits. He's arrogant to the point of suicidal recklessness many times over - times that could have gotten him and his team killed. He regularly and routinely disobeys orders of the standing command hierarchy - this is even stated as a reason why he's constantly held back from promotions. He's regularly shown to be rather slack in his personal life or so secretive that its cost him many personal and familial relationships. I have no issue with his character in concept, I have issue with how... patched together Atlantis writing was. Then again, it was written during the writers' strike, so that's.... somewhat understandable.

@@pyrioncelendil In a way, you are right but not quite. It has just the right level of campyness that I remember from a lot of the good shows in the nineties. They were just REALLY good at hitting the serious/humorous notes at just the right time. That is an art form.

I think she knew the next one was Rodney's year of birth because she connected the dots with the other two. But yeah I don't know how she would have known who they were haha.

It's been years, she's on a team with Rodney, and there are tons of other scientists around. No way she hasn't heard of Newton and Einstein.

Even if she didn't go on a journey through the scientific history of earth, she must at least guess that they were important people. Important enough that Rodney compares himself to them.

More than just supposed; he actually took and passed the entrance exam and probably could have easily joined if he wanted. Rodney even claimed that Atlantis had its own Mensa chapter if he was interested.

O'Neill cherry picked him.

For being the XO he made teh perfect man. A guy who can help keep the science and military sides in communication with each other and act as a man who can explain to the planned CO what's going on when it's needed, able to translate science speak to military basic effectively. When they lost their CO and he became such due to being the ranked military leader it worked out as he still had those skills but now he didn't have to explain it to anyone.

It's title says "hitchhikers guide to the galaxy", but it doesn't specify which galaxy. Since Earth is in the Milky Way (and the story starts off there) it is, but I guess Pegasus isn't.

@Jason King no. i m,eant in the early days. if i am wrong, please correct me, but wasn't Pi initially discovered roughly 1900 bc, but from what i can determine, the calculation ha snot been consistent from culture to culture(which confuses me), and the rounded decimal point to the 9th place was always used to represent Pi. still, from what i understand, the one who discovered the Pi we know today( Archimedes) concluded that Pi value is greater to infinite.

She may not completely understand the science team, but she does pay attention when Rodney starts expositing.

I think she learns quite a lot. I do remember she was left in charge of Atlantis at least once. She knew a lot of the controls in another occasion when they were in the alternative Daedalus. I remember she said if I am not mistaken that Rodney show her. I would say they are the characters that grow/develop the most through the show.

Eh, they had to make characters be able to comprehend a lot of concepts they would never reasonably be able to understand. You just have to accept it.

I'm sure she could deduce they were geniuses given that Rodney only prizes intelligence, why would he include them along with himself. Fairly obvious he holds them in high regard.

She's spent 3.5-4 years traveling across the galaxy with Rodney. He's probably brought them up before.

Atlantis is staffed with scientists from all over the world and full of so many educated people that there is even an Lantean chapter of MENSA present. She has probably had them come up in conversion among her co-workers more than once. Especially with how much Einstein’s theories and Newtons laws would end up being discussed by the scientists

It would have been unethical for Jack and Sam to have a relationship seeing as he was her commanding officer, there would be a power imbalance. Almost the same for John and Teyla (except she isn't military), he is her team leader. Personally, I disliked the writers trying to push these impossible relationships. They seemed so cliché.

@@WouldntULikeToKnow. it's not unethical cause at the time Jack was a civilian (he retired from the military) running homeworld command and Sam was a commander of a Daedalus class ship. John may be teyla team leader but she is a civilian contractor she is not a member of the us military and exempt from fraternization of the military. Also they have the added benefit of being a whole galaxy away. Doubt anyone is gonna make a big deal about something that far and technically not a part of the rules.

@Nero X From what the legacy books said Jack o'niell retired from the military and now works as a civilian who is head of stargate command. Yah true but that rule never stopped soldiers entirely from both having relationships and even marrying local population of where they are stationed. Im sure that john and teyla might be questioned if john rocks the boat but yah he has saved earth and atlantis so many times. His team and sg1 probably are granted a few extra priviliges due to being in a entire different galaxy and being heroes of the sg teams. In the books it wasnt like officily anounced. But almost everyone in atlantis knew they were finally together. Woosley loves rules yes. But he was willing to bend on certain ones. He started to realize that rules sometimes would kill those under his command in certain situations and has since changed his decisions on certain ways he runs the atlantis group. But anyways woosley eventually becomes a part of the IOA that oversees and ultimately eho decides the fate of yhe stargate program. I dont think they got another head of atlantis before the books ended. But i personally would want daniel jackson as head since that whole city is perfect for him and he has way more experience then any other candidate

But again its a whole galaxy away and they have not officially anounced im sure if they ever decide to marry it will get complicated then unless shepard retires from military and becomes a civilian contractor like teyla. I doubt woosley knows or like he says in the book " i see no cat" ( mckay brought a cat with him from earth when they return to pegasus in atlantis) and doubt the people who do know they are together will tell. Also they been team members a nd close friends for years so a case against them wont do very well. But yah i dont see it being problem anytime soon. Especially with what happens in the books. It was done very well i think. Teyla and shepard kept it very private they didnt start sucking face i front of people but he did start co habitating with her. Staying at her place and look ing after Torren and such bit again onlu people who knew that would be the ones who visit teyla s room whixh would only be close friends would notice shepards stuff.

@Nero X also the atlantis expedition isnt suppose to be a military run program. Its civilian ran so different rules there for sure. But yah only issue is sheppard is in military which again he can retire and also him saving earth and pegasus galaxy should give him some priveleges.

I think Smart Her UP is an understatement, as its just assumed she knows who both Isaac Newton, and Albert Einstein are. As well as the significance with which that is Rodney's ego at work. The understanding of earth years I can let pass as I assume the Atlantis expedition would continue tracking days as they relate to both earth time and local time for check ins.

Ehh, she'd been with them for over 4 years at this point, some people do just pick everything up way faster than others I kinda agree about knowing who Einstein and Newton are, but I guess she could have figured it out from the context...

@@leisergeist I don't think a couple years makes up for the amount of school people go through to learn the stuff she just magically knows. Like this one she apparently knows enough about meteorology to tell us everything we need to know about the planets atmosphere from a computer that she typed commands in, in english. So on this scene alone she learned how to read and write english, how to operate a computer, and enough in meteorology to be able to interpret atmospheric disturbances. I get picking up a couple things from just being around it all the time but i dont think for a second shes had the necessary training to be able to accurately do anything she does in this scene. >_O Always threw me out of the scenes when she all of a sudden knows how to fix said problem with the large amount of training she has.

She was the sort to learn once she had the opportunity. Ronan knew what he needed to know and was happy with that.

yelsew82 Yeah, for the meteorology part I kinda get you. As for English, that's been a hand wave for all of Stargate for a few good reasons. They tried doing "learning the language" scenes in a few early SG-1 episodes, and most people found them boring and tedious, so they stopped that and turned language barriers mostly into a hand wave by making almost every race in the show know English. (which was fine with me tbh) My previous comment was mostly directed at learning her way around their computers and stuff, which is how I'd explain that part imo
