Greg Heffley's adventures in Diary of a Wimpy Kid have been around for more than 15 years. We've read about Greg's middle school escapades, Rowley's experiences with his best friend, and now... a new character might get the spotlight: Rodrick Heffley.
Jeff Kinney, creator of Diary of a Wimpy Kid, has recently shown interest in giving Rodrick his very own Wimpy Kid spinoff. Considering Rowley's adventures, this wouldn't be a surprise to see. Rodrick Rules was the character's biggest highlight so far, meaning there's a ton of room for expansion in his very own journal! Will Greg Heffley's brother finally get some time to shine?

I wonder what his thoughts as the oldest son is? Maybe there was a story to him after Greg and Manny were born since we know each one got jealous when another son was born and they weren't the center of attention early on but what about after that?

I’ve always wanted to read Rodrick’s journal, even more than Rowley’s really. We don’t know much about the person he really is since Greg just wants to focus on him being a jerk, and he seems relatively normal at first glance.

Rodrick’s an interesting character when it comes to his relationship with the fandom. He’s not much more than the typical big brother bully and a dumbass slacker, but somehow he got a huge fanbase. My guess is that it’s because of his role in the movies, but I could be wrong.

Oh yeah the whole “Diary of a” has became a whole popular million dollar, iconic kid book franchise. The Books, spin off books, movies AND TV SHOWS! I think a Roderick diary would be amazing to add to that franchise as well.

makes me wonder if jeff kinney is going to continue this whole spinoff book series with other characters. I know i can see one more book and that being from holly hills perspective but that would be about it from Greg's classmates and friends. i know fregley and chirag aren't really his friends so that's kinda why i feel like it will end with holly, but i can see the series continue with the rest of his family.

@@dr_drawings In May 2020, in an interview with The Boston Globe, Jeff Kinney revealed the origins of the project, saying “This project started off years ago with the idea that we’d create a holiday special for Fox. But the entertainment world has completely transformed since then, and a streaming platform seems ideal for Wimpy Kid. So there is a show, I don’t know when it will come out but it sounds like he’s working on it. I’m assuming since there a movie on Disney, why not avoid all the flips and just put the show on Disney+. So who knows but there is a show in the works.

Rodrick has always been my favorite of the Hefflies sibling wise. He isn't as much as a self-centered jerk as Greg and isn't a winey brat that manipulates his parents a lot like Manny. Even younger me always liked whenever Rodrick bullies Greg because I viewed that as payback for whenever Greg mistreats Rowley

Another thing that could change it up is have Rodrick draw well (better than greg and rowley anyway). That could be a hidden talent of his, that'll shine through in his journal entries.

Here's an Idea for the First book when they make one: So, it starts out with the same plot of the fan Page someone made. His mom pays him 5 dollars to write in it. Then, as the book ends, Rodrick Learns to Love writing in his "Journal" and He starts making more books.

I think a Rodrick one would be interesting. Tbh I think Rodrick would be more open to the journal. But it would be filled with more poetry and song ideas. Idk Rodrick is quite artistic. But the part I love the most is that Jeff is so open to interacting with fans and he likes talking with us. Idk there’s a lot of creators who are neglectful of their fans. I know some fans can be creepy and annoying but be nice to the decent ones. You don’t need to talk with them all day but yeah.

I feel like Greg always paints himself as the good guy in his books, making him an unreliable narrator (which you see in Rowley's book). Similar things probably happen with his interactions with Roderick.

This would be better than the diary of the wimpy kid books for sure imo. I never properly read one but loved the movies and would definitely buy the Rodrick versions as soon as they release ! Make this happen!

i mean jeff was writing “the awesome friendly kid” a long time ago, it was included one of the blu ray releases of the og movie back in the day. wont be suprised if he already has something with rodrick
