I just lost my dad to brain cancer. He couldn’t speak but could hear. He loved this music era and he loved his boats and navigating those waters. He wouldn’t let go during his passing so I played this song and he peacefully finally let go to be free from his suffering ...sailing home across the sea to be near lord and to finally be free to be with him....😢💔 🕊 ⛵️🌊. It was the perfect song for my dad. R.I.P.

My mother requested this song be played at her funeral in 2003 at age 57 due to cancer. It is a very spiritual song if you listen closely to the lyrics. She died at night with us all around her so every time I her "through the dark night far away" i think of her flying away through the dark night far away to be near God, to be free of her pain.

'Sailing' is a timeless classic that always transports me to another place and time. The lyrics are so poetic and the melody is so captivating that it's impossible not to get lost in the song. Rod Stewart's voice is incredibly soulful and emotive, and he brings so much depth and feeling to every word. It's a song that speaks to the wanderlust in all of us and inspires us to set sail and chase our dreams. Thank you, Rod, for this beautiful and unforgettable masterpiece.👏

This was one of my dads favourite songs when he served in the Navy. It was the same song that played at his funeral. Now it has been passed down to me as I have gone into the Navy too. The feeling this song gives me is so hard to describe. Being only 20, it's hard to not think about him. Accepting the fact music changes, it's still nice to go back to this song every now and again. Gives me solitude and peace.

When I was younger, my dad was a sailing instructor running a sailing school in South Africa. He loved sailing, he loved boats, and he taught me and my brother to love it too. He used to sing his own version of this song to us every night. Brings back a ton of old happy memories; sailing along the coast, being seasick, being terrified when we left SA in a massive squall, fishing at the docks of the marina with my brother, the feeling of hugging my dad when he'd just come home and was wearing the sailing school jacket... Sometimes I wish I could go back in time and appreciate all the simplicity and oblivion of my life then

This makes my heart both melancholic as well as happy. Hope you are doing well. thank you for honoring your father like that. My grandfather used to single this all the time before he passed away from cancer. Its nice to listen to this song ad it reminds me of the good times our family had. R.I.P Grandad. I hope that I made you proud and you and grandma are looking down on me. Its a shame I never got to meet her. I cant remember her face or her voice just an outline of a figure in my memory. I hope there is a afterlife and I can chat to you both about my life and my family. Andy xx

This song was played at his funeral, since then I can't hear the song without crying. He loved sailing and sailed away every summer for a few months over the sea in many different countries. 'Can you hear me?' If so:I love you grandpa.I think I've never said you that. This song was written for you and will always have a special place in my heart, right next to you❤

This song was the theme tune to a documentary about HMS Ark Royal. My elder brother was in the Royal Navy at the time. I was in my early teens and missed him so much. He passed away last year and I miss him terribly. When I hear this song it brings this time back so clearly. He would come home on leave and tell me stories of the places he had been and the things he had seen. Love you bruv and miss you everyday.

Mike Morrison I’m not sure I like the arrangement in the Sutherland Brothers version. However, while I do love this arrangement, Rod Stewart gets the words wrong. As you know, it should be “I am dying forever crying. Will I see you? Who can say?”
