Driving by day and by night, in dire conditions, Clark fought off the challenges of stars like Stig Blomqvist, Simo Lampinen, Shekhar Mehta, Ove Andersson and the rest to bring his Mk 1 Ford Escort home to win. I remember Roger Clark's win and his driving from the 70's. He and Ford Motorsport surely did light up the British rallying scene again.

I grew up in Hinckley in the 70's, always found ironic that his day jab was selling Renaults! He would occasionally have a works Escort tucked a way in the workshop rubbing shoulders with Renault 4's etc.

You also gave the Irish Boys something to aim for, even though Stuart Turner didn't particularly like the Irish, a brilliant Billy Coleman rose to the task! Roger was fantastic, with a lovely style! He will never be forgotten!
