Daltrey - intense guy, good guy. Salt of the earth. Great singer. Townshend was damn lucky to have him. Something that gets lost.

... and they were lucky to have Mr. Entwistle on bass and Mr. Moon on drums, and that is why it worked so well. I have deep respect for their work. And about Mr. Townshend's songs, he's spot on.

They were four solo artists who found a way to work and play music together. I can't think of another band I'd rather listen to.

I was there at JFK n 82. It was sold out and we didn't have tickets! It didn't matter we snuck in and wound up 3 rows from the stage. My 6'5" tall brother let me sit on his shoulders for over 2 hours. I was so close to Daltry I could see the mole on his cheek. One of the best days of my life!

I see many American comments here. So I'd like to put my pennyworth in. 👉 🇬🇧 Roger is from East Acton, West London. Our education system, teaches us not to brag; and that humility is an admirable trait. It's quite typical, of his post war generation, to be generous. Salutations from Kensington and Chelsea West London, 4 miles from East Acton. 🇬🇧 🤝 🇺🇸

glenn davis I was on the field about half way to the stage center right " Pete's side" I have a audio recording of that Philly show and I have a little bit of video from that show that I recorded from a local news magazine show at the time called " This is It" a Channel 6 local show. What I remember from that show was the ground just rumbling under my feet for the entire show by their thunderous sound and John Entwistle's bass sonic waves beating off of my chest and Roger singing so clear and awesome and Pete's slashing guitar sound just rocking JFK stadium as the crowd was whipped up into a frenzy. It's a darn shame that no video exist from that glorious sun filled day and THE WHO because it was a show for the ages in Philadelphia concert history. Where were you located in the stadium and what was your memories because anyone that I ever came across who attended that show all say the same thing It was an Awesome show! Hooters Santana The Clash THE WHO

People forget how enormous JFK Stadium was in Philly. 102,000, and much bigger for concerts. The Who were so friggin' big that they couldn't play in the 65,000 seat Veterans Stadium next door.
@jerrypeters2095

The were big but not nearly as big as a band like the Stones They were the Stones little brothers. The Who sold alot of tickets on this tour because they gimmicked the last tour angle. Even with that angle the Stones 1981 dwarfed the Who's 1982 tour. The Who were a very good live band though there is not question of that, they just did not have the songs to be as big as a band like the Stones.

Jerry Peters The Stones were more of a band ‘for the masses’. While The Who’s rabid fans have had more discerning tastes. The fair-weathered Who fans are into their greatest hits, true. I hated it when the concert crowd would Erupt to John’s “Boris The Spider” because I was holding out for “Heaven And Hell” at The Ox’s turn to sing-ever since 1975, at my 1st Who Concert. And, I truly love Everything Who, (“Boris”, too), but you know John got tired of the same 2 songs he’d sing; my hopes were for his sake, too (lol). The WhoHead’s I know especially love the deeper cuts the most. At every Who Concert (20-some) I saw, I was embarrassed that the audience was so loud at the ‘expected’ songs, while quieted when songs like “Cry If You Want” (excellent Live!) started (or anything that wasn’t a very very familiar Who song). I don’t want to (but I’m not stupid) give up on possibly hearing TW do a live version of “The Song Is Over”, or “Put The Money Down”, or “I’ve Known No War “etc, etc... (oh, so many more songs yet to be played!) After all, it was only a month ago when The Who performed “Imagine A Man” (The Who By Numbers, 1975) live for the first time in their career! Who knows? They Still surprise! And, that was a pretty cool and unexpected gem we heard at the Van Andel Show that night. I felt that 20% of us were hip to the event it truly was; the rest....?Maybe they read about it later (one can only hope). I know I’ve gone off on my Who High Horse; but don’t be saying The Stones have anything on my boys; it makes me mad, and it’s Wrong! The Who is Love and I Love The Who!

Jerry Peters The Who "sold out" two JFK shows in one day but the Friday before Saturday show was cancelled by the bands management because if the Friday show was not cancelled would have meant the band playing 5 consecutive shows in the opening tour dates of "82" so they subtracted the one large Philly show and let the other one stand by having approximately 110,000 for the Saturday show as reported in the Philadelphia media back then! - IMHO - The Stones are nowhere as good as The WHO "live" because the Stones sound was a Rockabilly sound that never grew out of the Chuck Berry kind of sound from the '60's, to where as The Who's sound evolved over time and became thunderous especially live' in the Big Stadium Shows!

He looked like he could punch his way through a brick wall. There are few front men who can epitomize the dangerous rebel rock star with any real success. Daltrey had this down to a fine art and used this to make The Who's songs and performances believable. Townsend could have been a artist in his own right but The Who could never be as good as they were without Daltrey. Imagine Van Morrison running through the countryside with his shirt of singing See Me Feel Me or Peter Noone snarling My Generation at an audience. Punk wouldn't be punk without John Lydon, Rock 'n' Roll wouldn't be Rock 'n' Roll without Gene Vincent and Rock wouldn't be Rock without Daltrey.

Mark Macdonald Right On, Mark! But, don’t you think that all 4 needed to be there to turn into The Who that they were to become? Each were the best at what they did: Roger (you covered his bit); Pete - to not only write what they each performed to the nth (which enough can’t be said about his lyrics and music, imo) but also being his attitudinal best especially during the 60’s and 70’s, his amazing guitar, and his vocals (which I’ve always loved to hear juxtaposed against Roger’s), and his wonderful speeches (at times) at any given concert; John (Thunder Fingers), who literally Changed the bass instrument! I can’t remember ever wanting to watch the bass player much, until John! And, don’t forget his contribution to their songbook! His dark yet childlike sense of humor was wonderful to hear in many songs he wrote. Some weren’t so childlike, and that was great, too! And, the Heart of The Who: Keith! His style is legendary and I think speaks for itself....all of ‘em just The Very Best of their field and together were explosive ! And A-Freakin-Mazing! I personally can never get too much Who! Long Live The Who!

Great aside from thinking it's hard was gonna top any Who release! Most people hate it most of the pre-breakup stuff. Underrated for sure but Quadrophenia will always rule, mr. A. daltrey. Just imagine moon calling him that + getting knocked cold. Overall, their best work is (always will be) 1969 to '73.

Class sorting his mates out & great singer by the way but when Moon died it took him along time to get over it Townshed wasn’t sure about Moon at first...,,would you believe they try Mitch Mitchell first for the job but turn him down because his playing was to busy but Roger was positive Moon was the right fit...mad that....however great Moon was I think Townshed didn’t like this style of playing but Roger was dead right on that Moon made the band never the same after he died
