Former super featherweight champ' Roger Mayweather puts in a clinical and efficient performance to claim a title in his second weightclass and show why years before Manny Pacquiao he was known as 'The Mexicutioner'.
Lanky light welterweight champion Arredondo was a vulnerable puncher, but had regained his title in a career best performance against Tsuyoshi Hamada, the man who had previously wasted him.

No chin for ROGER but still two division CHAMPION with A decent list of victoms and even in defeat never embarrassed himself

Roger said somewhere that Chavez sr didn't beat him but his chin did....he said he landed his best right hand on Chavez chin but the chin didn't break down after few more time he gave up

I agree. Roger Maweather was a helluva fighter wih a terrific right hand. He could box well in addiion to having the knockout power inthat right hand.

Maweather had good management to get this fight. But, he did the most with his opportunity. If Roger had a chin, he would have only lost a few fights. That he did as much as he did with a weak chin, shows he had a good defense. He hardly got hit in this fight

@Kedbuka I agree. And without Floyd's natural ability and reflexes he won titles in two weight classes, and a super featherweight title in less fights with Floyd. Sadly most now think of him as a trash talking pad holder. But he came back from some terrible defeats to claim good scalps.

Thanks for your input. What were the thoughts on Arredondo being battered inside a round by Hamada and the subsequent rematch, if you can recall them?

Arredondo is too slow, knows two few types of punches: just jabs, and one-two straight. He can't throw a hook, nor a body shot. He has lazy feet and poor defense. How could he become a champion? A sheer mystery.

Arredondo was a champion that could never defense his title with victory , Hamada was like the japanese boxers , lot of heart but little skills of a great fighter , There were controversy about Arredondo being vomiting before the first fight , Hey ! Thats not Hamada s foul! Hamada defeated Arredondo in the very first round and become a Icon a Hero on Japan , the rematch? Well Arredondo only proved to all of us that a smaller guy cant beat a bigger guy , but there are exceptions , and Roger was.

Redondo had just knocked Lonnie Smith to win the title and the he loses to Roger Mayweather! Hard to figure this one out! Alexis Argüello should have beaten these two in the same night!

Before this fight arredondo was knocked out by a Japanese fighter in Japan. He got the title back by the same fighter. Then he fought Mayweather. That makes a difference.

Im Mexican and I've always respected Roger , after so many mexicans were defeated by Roger , then they puted on the line the Mexican champion Arredondo , Supposed to be a total dismatch fight , Arredondo was taller , younger , heavier, longest reach advantage , and he was along his people, I did not want to see the fight , for me it was some kind of revenge from the promoters , and people wanted to see Roger being destroy . UPPS !! Roger proved us all wrong!!

Actually Mayweather was knocked out by Chavez way before this fight. Then after a few fights he fought arredondo. Then he defended against a few Mexican fighter's. He became known as the Mexican assassin. So they put him up against Chavez again and Chavez beat him

ロジャーはジャブを入れても、アルレドンドの間合いを読み切るまでは深追いしなかったのが勝因だね深追いして必殺カウンターを食って、一瞬で逆転負けするリスクを上手く回避した

Te equivocas Jose Antonio. Chávez ya había destrozado a Mayweather dos años antes de esta pelea en 1985 en donde JCC defendió su campeonato superpluma y le entrego a Roger una paliza terminando la pelea en solo dos asaltos. El otro enfrentamiento fue en 1989 ya en welter ligero y otra vez, Roger fue desmantelado. Mayweather no tenia ningún negocio haber subido a otra división sin antes haber pasado por JCC. Arredondo no era del calibre de JCC.
