Interesting relic of East German history. One thing: the Elchtest/moose test isn't a crash test but an evasive maneuver test that shows if a vehicle is prone to rolling over under extreme directional changes.

The whole point of the so-called Elch test was that the Trabant would likely evade the moose or elk without hitting it, but that the Mercedes, because of its slower turning radius and steering properties, could not evade the huge animal without serious damage to the car, and probably its occupants. A moose is a large animal with thin legs, but a very big body. Its legs would break on impact, making the body go right through the windshield, killing or maiming the car's occupants. A miss is truly as good as a mile.
