Roger is not the greatest singer around, but the way he expresses emotions is spot on. He's great at portraying anger, aggression, fear, anguish, and sadness. He's got good breath support, he can sing in tune, and his vocals help tell a story which makes him a good singer.

Yes. He has always sung with his heart on his sleeve- i think that is what i love about him the most. He bares it all unabashedly-expressed in very emotional tones. Like those lines in "The Final Cut"-"and if i showed u my dark side would u still hold me......tonight?...and if i opened my heart to you, showed u my weak side... what would u do?" NOBODY writes like that.

The thunder though...goosebumps. Something i have always loved about Floyd and Roger is the way they perfectly insert sounds we commonly hear. Eg. thunder, heartbeats, footsteps,helicopters etc. It gives the song a third dimension...your imagination or feeling...or both is engaged, making it a more real and personal experience.

@kaptainkaos12022 жыл бұрын
In 1978 I was 15 years old and ran away from an abusive home. I hitchhiked from Philly to Tampa, Fl. Why Tampa? I’d never been there nor did I know anyone there. Why? Cause it was warm at nite. I hitched during a massive snow storm on the East Coast and I was afraid of dying in my sleep from cold. Spent 1.5 years living in the streets and it was the best time of my life. Came home when I turned 17 and had my parents sign my enlistment papers to join the US Navy. Almost flew to France to join the French Foreign Legion. Thank G@d I joined the Navy. Time of my life baby! Cathy if you’re reading this I still love and miss you 45 years later.

@@tiarara2011 It's honest proof that Waters makes Floyd work with any competent musicians. Gilmour's Floyd is just solo Gilmour, with Wright and Mason being played over by better session musicians. Waters solo is Pink Floyd with other great musicians, and Waters always brings out the best in good musicians, especially guitarists (Gilmour owes his career to Roger imo).
@tiarara20114 жыл бұрын
@@ObscuredByTime I don't think I agree with that , In all honesty Clapton stole this show from Waters. And as far as Gilmour and the members of Floyd without Waters, there is no doubt that both of their Albums sounded much much more like the real Pink Floyd, back to the days when they all contributed, than any solo Album Waters put out. Waters is a miserable man as a person, and always has been. Gilmour just the opposite, pleasant and friendly to all......I suggest you watch Behind the Wall....or Behind the Making of the Wall......and you'll find out the long time Floyd Experts, Managers, etc.....all agree that Waters parked his RV at the Wall Shows the opposite of all the other members, and never went to the bar to celebrate the pulling off of difficult shows. But Dave, Richard, and Nick all went with the Roadies and the Surrogate Band to have drinks and talk with them. As far as any competent musician, it's true.....Listen to Britt Floyd or the Australian Pink Floyd....and those cover bands sound so close to the real thing. Waters solo Albums never sounded like Pink Floyd Material....It was mainly Gilmour's voice and guitar style that gave Floyd their signature sound.

This song is absolutely amazing and one of my top favorites of all time, but the video could be so much better!! They could have invited Eric Clapton to play the solo.. there could be the girls in the choir.. the thunders (we can heard them on the album).. But instead, we only have Roger Waters close to the camera performing his part and some random scenes of his family (I presume) and his home. I mean, Roger Waters's performance is very good, he really knows how to put the needed energy while singing/acting, but c'mon, this song deserved something more artistical. The worst thing is that there's no known live performance recorded on video.
