My father bought a Besson Cornet in England many, many years ago. He played it in a Canadian military band before turning it over to me. I never played another instrument, except the odd bugle. When I took over a band as Band Master there were all trumpets being played. All was changed to Besson Cornets, against the wishes of some of the players. Only God made the sweet sound of the Besson Cornet. Bob

All brass instruments, when played 'straight' i.e. no lip/trigger corrections have slight tuning flaws. Manufacturers make decisions to minimise problems, allowing only the smallest tuning issues, ones that can be physically or mechanically corrected;ears permitting. My job is to ensure all Besson cornets fall within agreed parameters.(which, by the way, have been reduced drastically since the company was bought by Buffet Group). If in any doubt, try one, they are superb. Happy blowing Roger

I had the fortune to try one. Smoothest horn I ever played. No effort at all. I'll be buying one when the budget allows.

My buddy had his school buy a Besson Euphonium back in the late 2000's. It was made with such "perfection" that you could see a various obvious seam for the bell underneath the silver plating. I'm not implying Besson make bad instruments, I just think this one somehow made it out of the factory without the QC team noticing.

I love besson cornets, ive got a besson 1000, had it for 9 years and even though its a student cornet its fantastic, even proffesional player commented on its tone and quality. really love my besson 1000, did rigt up to grade 7 on it! I also have recently got a soverign which im still getting used to but its great for sound projection and especially marching band.

How long does this monthly inspection take? I'm thinking his lip must get pretty weary by the end of the day.

Does anyone do the same kind of inspection & checks for the Basses, especially EEb? I've not played a soverign Bass for a few years now, but I have NEVER found one with a top Ab (concert pich) above top Eb....it seems that this harmonic is totally missing. There is a G, and there's an A...BUT NO Ab...the octave above that is also missing!! This would indicate to me that there is a flaw in the harmonics of these instruments!

"Expect it to be perfect" Yeah I did, but the pearl inlays on my sovereign were not glued on and came out when playing. This is not something I would expect from a $3000 cornet. My local shop glued them in for me. Other than that its a fantastic instrument to play. Its allot better than my Yamaha trumpet. Thanks Mr. Webster :)

It would be silly if someone was coming once a month to play-test a line of Besson cornets and he would notice major visual imperfections that were supposed to be caught by QC.

If anything has my signature on it, you can be damn sure I've checked it properly myself. Why would you expect any different here?

I've yet to encounter a naturally sharp or flat courgette.

I am a bit surprised, On the first horn he didn't catch the intonation problem. He played a high A was slightly over pitch. same with the second horn - high B-flat was a slightly above pitch.

The Bessons are fantastic cornets until you play the new Stomvi Titan! Wow!!!!
