@we are all Equal I have experienced this today with just the plastic water intake nut... I'm left trying to hacksaw it off. I think I will have to take the tank off with the metal hose disconnected on the other end so I can hacksaw the very thin plastic nut on the porcelain... it has em on both sides. What a frustrating design. Urgh.

Thank you sooo much, I already turned off my mom's tank, before I watched any vids.. Its been costing her so much $$$$ in water bills for probably over 10 yrs. She used to underestimate me til I fixed her hot water heater, while my brother said call someone! My dad died @ 54 & I'm single & fix almost everything in my dog grooming shop. Til I fix her toilet, I have a question that she is worried abt...Will any pipes freeze cuz I shut off her water to the toilet? I don't think so. Yr in Texas, we are in Chicago. I wish I found you 5 yrs ago when she told me abt her 1st floor running toilet! Thank you for taking time out of your life to make vids that any woman or any dumbass can understand. Its like you wrote out steps w/ cryons. You Rock!!! I watched abt 5 guys & you inherently were the best! Subscribed & I txtd yr vids to my cell. I will let you know how this 48 y/o blond did, when it's done. Edit..Her house was built in 1890 & the bathroom was remodeled in the 90's, I know I have to change the bottom part where the flapper is, I hope I can find all these parts!!!

Thanks for the minor rebuild. But my problem is that my float doesn’t reach to the point to shut off. How do I adjust the float so it shuts the water off after each flush.

I got tired of waiting for my husband to fix the constant running toilet, and I thought about calling a plumber but decided to do a Google search first and try myself. I came across your first "How to Fix a Running Toilet GUARANTEED" video and this one. After watching both videos, I removed the fill valve out of my toilet and brought it with me to the hardware store. I found a replacement and replaced the old fill valve ALL BY MYSELF with zero plumbing experience. Amazing. The cost was $8 and the time it took was only about 30 minutes but the experience and pride I feel is worth so much more. Thank you, Roger!

I can relate!! I’m definitely not handy at all. The only thing I’ve done to a toilet was change the handle/lever thingy when it randomly broke one night. I did some research, went to the store. Fixed it all by myself, and I was/am super proud 😁 But now, a few months later, it’s been running, so I checked out these videos. He does a wonderful job of explaining everything, but I’m still kinda like “uhhhhh I have no idea what I’m doing” 🤣 But I guess there’s hope for me yet! You go girl!!!!! 💪

Note for if your toilet is running every few minutes. I had a toilet that would run for a couple seconds every few minutes. I replaced fill valve and flapper and it still doing it. I had just put the tube down into the overfill tube. Apparently this causes a siphon and pulls water from the tank and thus the fill valve tries to refill. I just cut the rubber hose to length and used the fill hose connector that mounts to the top of the overfill tube. This fixed my issue immediately. So, try this if you have that tube just stuck down the overfill tube

As I came across your comment, I decided to give it a try. Well, that solved the mystery. Very frustrating - I had replaced 2 flapper valves and the toilet continued to lose water 💧 . It would never have occurred to me to simply just (raise up) the discharge tube. Regards, M. Grubbs

Can you please explain this further. To what length ?
@TChudoba
@TChudoba Жыл бұрын
@@ingridlizhernandez9566 On the fill valve (the part with the float that the water supply is connected to) has a rubber hose connected to it that fills the tank after flushing. That should be directed into the flush valve (the ridged tube that the flapper is connected to). If that is down the flush valve and goes below the filled water level in the tank it will cause a siphon. Use a clip that comes with a repair kit rather than shoving the tube down the flush valve and cut the hose to fit

Great vid. Going to use this with my students. The only thing I haven't seen (yet) in your vids is a mention of how chlorine weakens these parts. We have enough chlorine in our municipal supply that you can sometimes smell it. It wreaks havoc on all these plastics overtime. The parts are so cheap, we tell folks to just swap it all out since you already went through the trouble of prepping for the task. The rubber parts all harden so might as well and just avoid future leaks.

Economically, with time and cost of parts, is it better to just replace everything in the tank at one time vs driving to the hardware store several times to change the parts each time and spending the time draining the tank and preparation in changing each individual part as it fails?

The toilet was leaking from the tank into the bowl so that it would need to refill the tank every 30 minutes or so. I rebuilt it just a few days ago by replacing everything including the flash valve with the rubber washer at the bottom and the flapper. But it is still leaking from the tank into the bowl. My main mistake is probably not getting the part number from the existing toilet to make sure that the replacement parts were the proper size. I'm going to try again by getting the part numbers and contacting the manufacturer to see if I can get replacement parts sent to me. Thank you for that tip! I didn't know that toilet manufacturers warrantee those things or that the specs can vary to such a degree from one unit to the next!

Great videos. New subscriber here. Question for you: I've got a toilet where it seems my kids don't flush, but actually, when you push the lever down quickly, only a little flushing happens, then it stops. You have to hold the lever down for a bit before it will flush fully. I've used a lot of toilets that don't have this issue. Is there a way to address that kind of thing? Is there a way my 5 year old can always have success flushing, or is the only solution to teach him to hold it down. There's also guests to my house whom I'd rather not have to instruct about my tricky toilet... thanks so much for all the great instruction.

The EZ change faucet style tool with a thick red plastic handle has a metal insert placed into one end that fits over a rectangular shut-off valve handle. The length of the handle gives better torque for turning, particularly with a stuck handle. Be sure to turn gently so as not to snap off the handle, particularly if the shut-off valve handle is plastic or a composite of plastic and metal. I do spray first with a WD-40 type product to lubricate the threads, helping to break up the mineral build-up causing the handle to stick in the first place, and breaking down any rust on a metal shut-off valve. Also, I have read that first very gently wiggling the handle to the left and right may help to break up any build-up gunk on the threads. Although this specialty tool name indicates it is for faucet use, and it is indeed great for faucet repairs / installs, the mentioned metal insert it comes with is specifically designed for shut-off valve handles.

See if you've run across this one, water trickling into bowl, cleaned valve surface, replaced flapper, replaced valve and stand pipe same problem. Disassembled, sealed gaskets with silicone, no good. Hello. I'd like to ask a question. How to fix the running toilet that's wall-mounted? Is the mechanism need to be replaced completely or is there something that would prevent water from leaking 24/7?

I just fixed my fill valve problem . There was excess sediment in the tank, that got trapped around the shaft of the fill valve causing the float to stick and not reaching its level and caused the toilet to run. So I cleaned the shaft, washed all the sediment out of the bowl. PROBLEM SOLVED!

Would have had to call the plumber. Instead, went to Home Depot, got a new part, swapped it out and now the toilet works perfectly. $13 and 30 minutes of my time. You're the man.

Mines isn't running, its just too low. The water in the toilet bowl is really low. Each of the videos I have seen haven't shown how to adjust the floater if the water in the bowl is too low. I also don't know if the fill tube is supposed to rest inside that shute or just sit on the side of it. A part of the clamp at the end of it broke off.

I’ve got all of this stuff done but what’s the best way to seal the tank up again? I chipped a few edges when I was cutting the back window/access port thing into to the tank so should I use silicone/caulk or something ? My wife is convinced I ruined the toilet but I’m trying to tell her yours is exactly the same.i think she is just tired of hearing the grinder

I want to add I changed the valve before and no problem. What causes water to keep flowing in the tank after all water is off?
