Saw the Form Check #26, great vid. I’m brand spanking new to archery, a little gal turning 60 in October, awaiting my Southwest Spyder 64 x 25 and practicing for form on a kids bow. Specific Physical Torture for starters, I’m sure that will get better hahaha. Doing SPT in my kitchen with mirrors at 12:00 and 3:00. Finding areas to improve very quickly! Thank you, Beth

That's awesome Beth! Glad you're getting a lot out of it! If you keep this drill up, SPT changes from "Severe Pain & Torture" to eventually becoming "Super Phun Time!"

Thank you! I am very new to archery and don't have the opportunity to go to a dedicated shooting range. BUT, I watch all your videos on technique and training and it actually helped me quite a lot. I am shooting either in the backyard or sometimes on a 3D course. I felt getting much more consistent doing this drill, and after I get insecure about a part of the shot process I get back to SPT in the mirror and correct it as good as possible. The whole shot process becomes more stable and natural after a while and I feel that sth is off when I don't do it perfectly.

Been training with the traditional Indian bow for the past 3 months and have been facing tough time with the draw and release. Just before the release I tend to loosen the tension. I hope this helps. Looking forward to more such exercises
@RogueArcheryTV
@RogueArcheryTV 2 жыл бұрын
Whilst this exercise will help with the strength and stability of your technique, I think the 'collapsing' release is a different technical issue. It's a bit more complex, but you should look at CCS#3, and I've I've another video coming out soon covering expansion drills.

Two days in and I've noticed how shaky my elbow gets My coach just change me to be more rotated with the front elbow and this is showing up the weakness that is causing inconsistencies, so that's good :)

Yes, SPT will definitely help reinforce the consistency of your full draw position 🙂 To succeed, you need stable and consistent technique structure, so keep up the good work! 💪🏹🎯🔥

@@spaghettibadger647 absolutely! To increase the intensity there are a number of variables: 1. Increase hold time 2. Decrease rest period 3. Increase repetitions 4. Increase draw weight 5. You have a crazy amount of medial rotation in the bowarm elbow. How the heck have you not had an issue with that?! You've not had any injuries with your elbow pointing towards the sky like that? I was under the impression medial rotation was certainly something you could overdo. Thanks
@RogueArcheryTV
@RogueArcheryTV 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, I do! I have a hypermobile elbow joint, which has always made string clearance an issue, as well as a high degree of shoulder mobility. This is a position that allows me to maintain string clearance, and shoot in good alignment whilst maintaining stability through the bow shoulder. There are some other top archers who shoot this way, Jang Yong Ho is probably the closest example. There are definitely considerations in order to avoid injury however, as a higher degree of internal humeral rotation puts more strain on the supraspinatus. Hypermobility is actually not an uncommon issue, so I'll be doing another video on it soon. Hope this helps.

I'm loving this new world, I'm in fact learning the basics and I'm doing it every day. Any advice for a new one? I noticed that my shoulder vibrates a lot while doing this exercise, is this normal?
@RogueArcheryTV
@RogueArcheryTV 2 жыл бұрын
Yea! It's sometimes common for archers to start shaking a little towards the end of the session as they start to get fatigued. If you can't maintain correct technique or set position, then you should let down, but as long as you can maintain the correct technique structure, then a little wobble is nothing to worry about! Of course, I'm assuming that you have the correct technique in the first place... :)

Does this kind of exercise require special free time, or can it be done before regular routine exercises such as when you are going to practice shooting at a certain distance?
@RogueArcheryTV
@RogueArcheryTV 2 жыл бұрын
I would always recommend doing your most technical training first, because if you do this one directly before shooting, you are likely to get fatigued and perhaps compromise technique. So shooting first then finish with this type of training makes an effective session. If you do this first, have a 5-10 minute rest before shooting.

I notice your bow arm is a bit bent at the elbow. Is this intentional or part of the exercise technique?
@RogueArcheryTV
@RogueArcheryTV 2 жыл бұрын
It's not actually bent, but I have a hypermobile elbow joint which looks a bit different. Definitely don't try and imitate it! I do plan on doing a video on it at some point as well 👍
