Some pretty good games coming out lately. Still makes me wish these could've come out 35-years ago. Dang-it Commodore!

I agree. Some of these things are just brilliant. There were some great games 35 years ago, and also a lot of developers that did not try very hard

@@10MARCThat's the importance of exclusive titles, isn't it? So dev houses concentrate on the strengths of a system instead of building one game engine that will work on everything down to the weakest supported silicon.

Head over heels feel, I really loved isometric adventure games back in the day. Also reminds me of Cadaver, though I never gotta play that cause I didn't have an Amiga back then.

The stereo music is a nice touch -- I keep forgetting that the Amiga is capable of stereo sound!
@10MARC
@10MARC 11 ай бұрын
It is amazing how few audio capture devices for modern computers actually capture in stereo. You really have to go out of your way to find them. Most just bring in a mono signal for a microphone, or capture stereo through HDMI.

As a fan of both lovecraft and turn-based dungeon crawlers this is right up my street! Thanks for this great review. I'm just as happy to have discovered Sam Luoko's music, I've been listening to a bunch of that this afternoon.

Agreed! I have been a Lovecraft fan since the mid eighties, so this was right up my alley! I just adore the music. I should look deeper into what Sam does

My guess on the spike traps: looks like since there's three rows each row with different levels of them sticking out, so they're probably going to animate so the spikes pop in and out on a timer. Looks like it'd keep you on your toes when you enter a room, and keep you from exiting again in a rush once you see what's in the room waiting for you :)
@10MARC
@10MARC 11 ай бұрын
Yep. The programmer confirmed to me that the animations for the spikes was not quite ready, but they will be there in the final version

Also, in the original Rogue you couldn't bypass traps iirc. But they were often hidden. And you'd spring them when you walked onto them. Just part of the game. Showing them by default eliminates some of the surprise. If they were hidden and you ran to an exit and sprang one, that would be acceptable IMO. However, it would be possible using Scrolls to reveal them on a per-level basis, or take almost no damage if you increased your armour, etc. Thanks for the review, Doug. I look forward to the next version.
@10MARC
@10MARC 11 ай бұрын
The author says the traps are going to be animated, so you can sneak past them when they are in the floor. That won't help when you approach a trap from another room, though!

Too bad you can't eat the dead Chick-Un and get a health point... mmmm Chick-Un-Fil-A sandwiches... It would also be cool to have secret rooms, because it looks like some of the wall tiles are missing some bricks, which usually indicates some sort of weak point in the wall you can smash thru. All in all it appears to be a perfectly executed, fun game from a veteran crew. The game jam hits just keep coming!
@10MARC
@10MARC 11 ай бұрын
Both very good ideas! I totally agree about secret doors! That would be great.
@gabor222
@gabor222 11 ай бұрын
The potion that reveals everything is not useless because there are secret rooms where the passage to them is not visible so the revealed map does show you where to search for these passages. The spike trap is updated in the latest release so it is a very enjoyable game. I wish that they would port this game too to the Mega65 but unfortunately they wrote that it is not planned.
@10MARC

Good point about the potion revealing traps. And I did not mean it was useless in general... Only useless getting another one on the same level! ;)

I'd passed over Roguecraft 64 when it came out -- it looked fun, but I haven't been into Rogues and Roguelikes in general since Sword of Fargoal. Watching this video I can see it's time to bend away from tradition and get this when it comes out.

I'm a massive Amiga Rogue fan - the EPYX version. One of the things about that game I really love is it can be keyboard driven. Perhaps the choice to do Isometric 3D makes that weird, but I wonder... Does this game support the number pad for movements? Additionally, in the original Amiga version, if you hold [SHIFT] you can blast from one location to another (until you hit something) or hold down [CTRL] and zip from one place to another unless your avatar encounters "something" - like a doorway or whatever. What makes that so fun is when you replay the game (and great Roguelikes are addicting) you can *speed run* through the mazes at an incredible clip and basically cut to the chase. It's all about drilling down into the dungeon, like you said, and when you're playing for the 50th time (or 500th time) having a speedier mode of movement - beyond simply moving smoothly from tile to tile as you demonstrated - would be a big bonus in my opinion.

I will have to look to see if you can find specific keys. Not sure, actually. I just played it with a joystick. Yes, I thought of you when I was reviewing these "Rogue" games! I know you love the original!

hi doug 👋 i followed this pretty good game since some months and it’s a real vintage feeling to play it 😅 , details amaze me , i heard that it will have sfx ? cause only music 🎵 missing great ambiance :) , you are still the best storyteller 😊

I was thinking about the SFX too - I assume it will, as the Commodore 64 version has both music and SFX. I will ask the programmer

Pull that little guy out! That was me for about 18 years. I would take out an Amiga every two or three years and dabble with it for a few days before putting it away. It took starting a KZfaq channel to motivate me to use them again. Now I have a million Amiga's and 8 bits and no where to put them...

Is the treasure purely for keeping score (it was in the original)? If so, do you ever find different weapons, armour, etc.? Or is your only improvement to battle your strength status? Sorry for all of the questions but this is a part of the Amiga game scene I'm deeply embedded in.
@10MARC
@10MARC 11 ай бұрын
From what I have seen of the first four levels, the treasure is only for score. Having a store to buy upgrades was one of the things I liked about "Rouge Declan Zero" I reviewed the week before
