I totally disagree with you, when you said only low rankers are going for higher studies like PHD. Good institutions like NITs, IITs, IISC , ISI, CMI, TIFR have all INDIA exam by which you can get a entry for PHD in these institutions which are very tough as well as competitive in nature. so low rankers or those who are not good in their academics even can not crack these exams. everyone has a different perspective and different goals. so you should not have said this that "only low rankers are going for PHD" , PHD is very tough and very lengthy process.

My opinion on this that it all depends on financial condition of family . if your family conditions are weak then go for a job but if you are financially stable then you can go for both option gate or job as well.

heard of startups like preplaced? Aise toh GATE se IITs/NITs na mile toh GATE hi nehi dena chahiye, kiuki if the end result of masters is a high paying job?? then.. woh toh IITs/NITs se hi possible hai... Toh fir kya kare? Jab tak GATE se IITs/NITs na lage tab tak GATE likh te jaye? kiuki dil se PhD karne wale maine barely 1-2 logo ko dekha hai

my current situation -> - have done 700-800 DSA questions ie all important topics and algos covered (took me 1.5yr) - I have made projects from online web dev courses (1.5 months) - I would rate my current DSA skills as 6/10, to make this higher I have to revise previous concepts & alongside learn new ones what i have to do -> - upsolve 1 contest each day (to tackle hard problems & learn new concepts) from cc, cf, lc - give all contests on cc, cf, lc - alongside prepare core subjects / make new & attractive dev projects
