Күн бұрынDaniel Fisher, Sweetwater's king of keytars, demonstrates his favorite axe, the Roland AX-EDGE, a 49-key shoulder-worn synth with the power you'd expect from a standard, horizontal synthesizer. On some of his performances, Daniel is playing along with various mp3 backing tracks that were copied to a USB thumb drive and inserted into the AX-EDGE. (Blank thumb drives sold separately.)
All of the AX-Edge's parameters can be edited from the front-panel LCD display as well as from iOS/Android devices.

I can't figure out WHY, but I like it. I wouldn't play a piano standing like that, but for jamming with low gritty synth sounds it seems fun! Just like you said, step in, plug, start playing.

OR unplug... i'm using the Boss WL-20 to transmit to main keyboard wirelessly...plus i added a Kenton Midistream wireless midi...now i can transmit 4 midi channels to my main keyboard using it sound to create pretty huge layers

Everyone I ever talked to about replacing the portable Roland keyboard that I have owned since September 2014, the VR-09, with something like an AX-Edge has told me not even to think about it. Such a drag, people don’t know how awesome it would be to have something like this in their arsenal.

I work as a musician for a cruise ship company that really takes onstage engagement and showmanship seriously. Two years ago, I was ready to invest in a keytar only to realize that Roland had essentially stopped making them. Only today did I realize they came out with this a year ago. Time to start working on guitar licks....

Hi Daniel! Now that there has been some time since the AX Edge came out, lots of users still seem to be really frustrated/confused about downloading sound patches and wav packs from the Roland Cloud site and installing them AND configuring/using them in the AX Edge. Considering you are always much more thorough with your tutorials than *some* other demos out there on how to do something like this, can you put this on your list to do a video or series on? This machine is very, very capable, complex, and popular - so a follow up to this video all about upgrading sounds and using them would be a welcome addition. Thanks in advance! 💙🎹

If only I could afford it, if only. That voice effect thing, talk box or whatever, is exactly what I’ve been looking for! I’ve been wanting to get a synth for years, a Keytar specifically. I’ll most likely get a Vortex 2, but one day man, I’ll gonna get one of those. Even if it means selling my soul!

Great demo! So many great patches, but those groovebox sequences (almost guaranteed to be labeled "techno") need to be sent back to MC-505 heaven.

never hear anyone actually play piano on a keytar, this is good. you can play anything, as long as its not The Final Countdown, basically i call it Corny. Cool looking instrument.

Thank you Mr. Fisher. I am seriously thinking of buying one; the black and white one. I've wanted one since 1988 when I saw Ted Riley play one. Whatever the settings were at 7:41, and 9:12, I absolutely love that sound. I have got to learn how to play that thing. Thank you for the demo. Question... can you play a sound, set the keytar up to replay that sound for 4 minutes while you lay down something completely different on top? Is that possible?

Its just can sounds SO different!! Very very cool, Roland Inc! Some of the sounds from the great and excellent synths and moduls from the 90s. I hear some sounds from my lovely JP-8000 =) Some of the sounds you can easily made with the super cool Synth1 VSTi! Really close to it`s sound. BUT me really don`t like that all keys are black as hell! It would be looks more better with the traditional black and white keys.

Bought the white version from sweet water and love it! I’m a guitar player & am wondering what type of key action is Roland AX-Edge classified? Non weighted spring loaded? Looking to buy a full 88 keyboard from SW & would love the same key action as the Roland AX-Edge!

Hi tellthetruthok. The AX-Edge has "semi-weighted" or "synth-weighted" action. As you surmised, it is non-weighted and spring loaded. I also really like the AX-Edge's keyboard action. -_Daniel_

Hi elmero mero. The AX-Edge sends out line-level stereo audio that needs to be amplified and then sent to passive speakers, or the line level can go to a pair of powered speakers. Thanks for watching! -_Daniel_

I am new to the Keytar world, what's the lowest octave you can play on this? C0 or higher?

Hello! The octave buttons on the AXEdge work to add +/- 3 octaves to the range of the 49 key keyboard, so you effectively have 10 octaves that this instrument can play (four built into the keyboard itself, three lower, and three higher). I haven't made it to far into the video, so excuse me if my question gets answered, but I will still ask. Does this keytar come with built in speakers, or does it need to be plugged into one? I have a personal speaker, so no problem if it requires one, I was just curious. Just from me looking at it, it doesn't appear to have any speakers built in, but I could just be stupid too lol

Hi there. That is a great question! The Roland AX-Edge does not have built in speakers, but it does have 2 x 1/4" main outs, so you would be able to send that to a PA system and be able to rock on. Can you use a sustain pedal for piano sounds?

Hi Andrew. The Control Pedal jack on the bottom of the AX-Edge can accept either a Roland EV-5 Continuous Controller pedal or any of the Roland DP-series of Footswitches. You can then program (either globally or per preset) what that CC# the pedal generates, including CC# 64 (Sustain). Thanks for watching!

Ax edge has " bend mode" option like the Ax synth .?

Hi Vimal. The AX-Synth's Bend Mode button allowed you to switch between a fixed position where the middle is always zero bending, and a mode where, wherever you put your finger was the new zero. The AX-Edge's ribbon has both horizontal and vertical (downward pressure) sensitivity. Each can be applied to parameters such as: Pitch Bend, After Touch, Volume Blend, and many CC #s. Hi Joey. I grew up playing organ and melodica instead of piano. So I'm often unaware of keyboard action. For me it's about how the keys feel when I'm playing a vigorous glissando. And the AX-Edge feels great. -_Daniel_

Hi leon. The Ax-Edge can transmit MIDI via 5-Pin DIN as well as USB. Anything that can be played by MIDI can be played by the Ax-Edge. -_Daniel_
