In this 163rd installment, Jimmy answers some questions about the looper used in many review and demo videos and gives a quick look and demo of setting up a short backing loop in the studio using his Roland “Boss” RC-5 Loop Station, along with some comments on his “Shorts” experiment here on the channel!

I got rid of all my gear except for my BlackStar SuperFly with a battery pack and My Spark Amp. Thinning out the guitar herd is currently in process. My house is much less cluttered and definitely safer to walk around in. The high school kids down the block were more than happy to take all my stuff… provided they spend time sharing their knowledge with the younger kids who are hanging out there daily. Two parents showed up a couple weeks ago thinking their kids had stolen from me. The relief on their faces when I explained I getting old and don’t need all my toys anymore.

@@davidnee I would also suggest that keeping a record of these “gifts” would be a good idea to keep. You could probably take a tax deduction for them! 👍

Thanks so much for stopping in! It’s a great pedal..I highly recommend downloading the full operating manual for reference…lots of good info! Lots of features explained along with tips/tricks and adding/setting up additional foot switches, assigning them and output options! Congrats and enjoy…🎸👍

The Boss RC-1 was my choice for price and need. Now that I have a Flamma FA05 modeling amp, I have a drum machine to keep me in time (hopefully). Great demo as always, Jimmy!

Hi Peter…thanks for watching and commenting. As far as I know, you can’t. I believe the output remains a “mix” regardless. Would be nice, but I don’t think it possible with the RC-5. Appreciate your stopping in to the channel! 🎸👍

Great video, thanks Jimmy! How do you find the sound quality? I ask because I had the RC-30 when they 1st came out and for some inexplicable reason the fidelity of the loop degraded the longer it played. I initially thought I was going mad or my mind had gone loopy 🙂 but it was repeatable and became more and more obvious the longer it went on. Anyway, thanks again and keep up the great work!

So wonderful, thank you! What I haven't found the answer for, is this: can I record a loop and then stop it instead of playing it back in order to play it back later on? If I record and then press the pedal (in whatever way) it always immediately starts playing back, so I'm not sure if it's possible to just stop the 1st recorded loop without playing it back right away. Could you help me with this?

Hi Vera…thanks so much for watching and commenting. Once you go into the setting, you can adjust what you want the foot switching to do when pressed. You can also add a dual foot switch in addition to the pedal to give you more versatility. You will have to record your loop and then save it to a memory slot. Then you can start/stop the loop at will later. I don’t have my manual handy at the moment, but if you save your loop, you can arrange playback for start/stop like you want. Hope that helps a bit…you can also download the RC-5 manual from Roland/Boss for reference! Thanks so much for stopping into the channel! 🎸👍

Hey Jimmy, I’m not sure if this is the right form or video to come on but I took a maple neck from guitar Fetish and put it on my retro tele. I had some issues with setup and intonation. Had to raise the bridge really high. I changed to 10’s and it was magic. Right action and was able to lower the bridge. Any thoughts or advise?

Hi Rich…I actually did a video here on the channel trying to swap the necks from two Retro Tele’s and it would not work without major surgery which I felt was not worth the effort as both guitars played well they way they were! Heals were different sizes, bolt holes would not line up and I was concerned with proper scale if I messed with the heal lengths. Did you need to shim?

@@JimmyStewart1 I thought I would need to but changing to 10’s did the trick. I like the tone of the Hard Rock Maple Lido. It could be in my head but I feel like it’s warmer then the rosewood/maple original.

Take a look at the Lekato Looper. It’s around $50 and it has a lit circle to let you know when the loop starts repeating. This is great for layering loops.

Yes there are sons really inexpensive loopers by Donner, Flamma and Mooer for less than $100.00
