love hearing the slow, elegant and thoughtful walk-downs @1:06/1:55/and almost @2:42 amongst this quite energetic and masterful piece...

Composers like Dyens and Stephen Yates (also on KZfaq) have a chance of bringing a new audience to "classical" guitar. Continuing to play only 19th century romantic pieces will not draw new listeners. Dyens, Yates, et al, combine superb playing, a musical sensibility that is modern but not overwhelmingly "artsy", and intellectual interest (seriously lacking in the traditional guitar repertoire) in a way that can appeal to people who also like, say, Radiohead and AC/DC. That's what's needed.

Apparently the composer has a distinct advantage, because I've never seen or heard this piece played better. I love hearing the distinctness in the voices and steadiness in the rhythm. He moves with great ease. I saw him in San Francisco a while back and it was the most inventive concert I think I've ever attended.

The piece is a story about a heart rhythm issue he had when he was a child. The intro is representing his heart beat, the rhythm is crazy- it’s on purpose. The calmer part is emulating the hospital and the heart monitor beeping. At the end, he does a smoother version of the intro to show he’s all healed

Do us all a favour and if you have the master(s) of these Dyens pieces, reupload them as better (sound) quality please. The music deserves it. Ta.

Well not necessarily. for example, there is a recording of rachmaninoff playing his 3rd concerto floating around on youtube, and personally, i prefer other people interpretations of it. but definitely the case with dyens though. i went to concert he gave in LA the fall of last year, definitely made realize how much more practicing i have to do.

I agree, but try listening to Anielo Desiderio's version on his album 20th century sonatas. That's at least on par with this one. Desiderio is a MONSTER and that particular album is out of this world sir.

He plays it fast and neat, but I dont't think it's on par with Dyens playing at all.
