Howdy, stumbled across this, then saw noelfan's comment. He's absolutely right, found another vid to prove the point. No need for allen key or drum key or touching the pedal at all. Just flip it upside down, remove the philips screws, replace the actuator and done, fixed in 2 minutes. THANK YOU !!

Yeah, you're right. 7 philips head screws on the bottom and the cover comes right off, 2 minutes to swap in the new part. Thanks for the comment!

Thanks for this. Couple of pointers for anyone else finding themselves here: 1) you don’t need to remove the drum key bolt, it comes out with just the Allen bolts. 2) I fitted the new rubber upside down and left me scratching my head. Check it’s the right way up before re-assembling!

This worked perfect! TY! I just unscrewed the 7 screws on the bottom and took the piece out. Cleaned off the grease and dog hair and set it in boiling water from my Keurig for about 20 seconds. Dried it and stretched it for a minute, manually. Popped the piece back in place, put a thin layer of grease I got from Home Depot on the flat angled area that it connects to, cleaned off the sensor strip, and screwed back together. Works like new now!

I saw someone on here post about another video with an eraser fix. It worked!!! I drilled a hole near the base of a latex(polymer is better) eraser that I got in a pack of 3 for $1.25 at the dollar store. The eraser is 2.3 inches long and you need one at least that size. I simply took out the screws on the bottom, removed the old actuator and slid the drilled latex eraser over the hole and laid across the sensor, then put the 6/7 screws back on and it worked like a charm!!!

Thank you this is awesome, I have been having this problem for months and I thought I was going to have to buy a new pedal. Following some comments, I put the rubber actuator in hot water (almost boiling), and that was a mistake! I am a Brit living in Turkey. And I literally couldn't get hold of a new actuator. What I did was took the actuator out completely and put masking tape around the metal piece that would normally push the actuator down. This worked OK but there was little response. The hi hat was either closed or open. No in between. Eventually I super glued a piece of foam cut to size onto the masking tape. Now this works perfectly. It seems even better than before the actuator went. Its a great fix if you need to play and can't get hold of an actuator.

I got word from the supplier that the actuator has been back-ordered for 6 months and they don't know when they'll get them. So, I tried the hot water trick: I boiled water, took it off the burner, and dropped the actuator in for about 30 seconds. It became totally pliable. I ran cold water on it to bring it back to room temperature, and it was still just as pliable. Wow! How does that work? I did coat it with vaseline afterwards (no curry :) for good measure and wiped off the excess, especially removing it all where the top curve meets the sensor. IT WORKS! By the way, I didn't need to remove the top screws. Just be careful, as David O'Connor says, that when the plate comes off after you've removed the sixth bottom screw, that it doesn't stress the cable strip, which is attached to the plate and to a small circuit board. I'll report back if this fix doesn't work for more than a couple of weeks, but otherwise you can assume I'm too busy playing. Thanks for the encouragment of this video and the other helpful comments!

I just tried a simpler version of this: Used a cross-headed / Phillips screwdriver to undo the seven screws on the underside, then it opened-up easily, being careful with the ribbon cable. I then took the rubber actuator out by hand and scraped any grease off the rubber onto the metal plate it was touching. I then popped the rubber actuator into hot (not boiling) water for a few minutes, dried it off, and reassembled. The pedal works perfectly... and if seizes up again, I'll either try the hot water trick again, or order the spare part.

I just drilled some 3mm holes into the rubber actuator - 12 or 15 from the upper side and 4 or 5 from the left and right. So the piece becomes a little bit easier to move and acts like being made from softer material again. Be careful: you must not drill completely through the rubber. The viewable stripe on the bottom is the area that presses the contact - that must not be hurt in any case. I expect the rubber to rip one day at the drilled holes - but this provisory prolongs the time of usage for a while, I think. At least as long as the shipment lasts after ordering a new rubber at Roland (or Thomann or whoever).
