Something very interesting of note is Vanitas' phrasing. He doesn't say, "I only have interest in the sort of person who wouldn't harbour affection for me." He says, "I simply have no interest at all in the sort of person who would harbour affection for me" Which is probably the best line to characterise him in the entire show. It's not that he enjoys his love not being reciprocal, but rather he hates himself to such a degree that he believes someone could only love him if they were as abhorrent a person as he believes himself to be. And as with anyone else, he has no interest in an awful person, the same way you or I would not want to date an awful person. It's a very important detail to his character, as this bleeds into pretty much every decision he makes in the show, including how quickly he hits it off with Noe, someone who stated his disdain for Vanitas on first meeting.

Honestly one of the reasons I love vanitas is that its not afraid to talk about religion and hypocrisy in the church, as well as subtle story lines of various themes of consent and assault. Everyone knows that vampire biting is often used as a metaphor for sex-- penetration and what not-- and even noe says that it was drilled in him to always ask for consent first. For his powers and otherwise. The church plays a big role in this show and the themes and storyline and subtext are so beautiful and amazing when you pick up on stuff and put things together !

Roland is indeed the best boy but Oliver is great as well.

In one of the volume covers, vanitas has the pink mark of possession jeanne left on him, and on the other side peaking out of his collar is a purple one, which....for sure is noe's. Talk about a bisexual king !! The colors are all there too !

The best thing about Roland is that every single second he is on screen he gets exponentially better than the last. He is legitimately THE best character

I love that Noe looks confused in every shot he's in. It's like he has no idea what he's doing there, what his lines are, or what is name is and it's hilarious.

In the manga the dance scene ends with Noé's narration, "I would not truly understand the meaning of the stirring I felt in my heart until quite some time later." He says something different in the anime that doesn't convey the meaning as well. Also in the manga Noé doesn't see Vanitas and Jeanne come back (as far as we know) he says he'd gotten lost and hoped to see the café from the rooftops, after Domi mentions the others had returned ages ago. Dante, Johann, and Riche are Dhampirs or Dhams. The anime cuts a lot of their scenes out which is sad because they're great.
