Just got back from Sam Ash here in Dallas, and played this thing in person, and DAMN it's is fat as hell sounding. The drums are so perfect in richness and depth. I have not had a hardware synth since the late 80's which was a korg and yamaha, but my birthday is next monday and I'm getting this thing.

Nice intro to this new Roland concept. My first thoughts were: great: a Scott Tibbs video, and my second thought was, Oh know, 10 minute video. Well now I understand, since when Scott is playing with this concept time truly flies.

This is a good synthesizer, PERIOD! The microkorg is an awesome synthesizer, but this might be even better than the microkorg. Obviously, this guy knows what he is talking about! This thing can do very cool stuff that the microkorg can't do!

Hi all, I was wondering if anyone had an opinion on whether the vocoder on the mininova is better than on the JD-XI? In all the other demos of the JD-XI, the vocoder sounds extremely distorted. Here it's much clearer but the robot voice is still heavily distorted/fuzzy and it's hard to make out individual words. Any thoughts? I'm between buying the mininova and the JD-XI
@StarfieldBound9 жыл бұрын
Ha ha "Skrillexian". This was a much better demo than the other videos from the show floor. I see this fitting the space the Microkorg one held so well. I like the effects processing on individual drum voices. Does it do synthie stuff?... lets hear those LFOs go in the audio range. Hard sync? Matrix mod?

If you keep one finger pressed on the shift button and use your other hand to change chord progression by using one finger. It's supposed to be transpose mode but it's chord progression. Handy tip Also deep in the menu you can change bar length

These boards are fun and although it barely scratches the surface, I have found even the VR-09's ability to tweak sounds and jam along takes you into that same vibe but this takes it to a much deeper level.I get Roland's thing to make music fun and cater to a wider market. This technology will go into a synth with full size keys but they will take something away that you get on this keyboard. I have noticed that to be the Roland way and as annoying as that can be, for them it's smart marketing.
@mylifemark27473 жыл бұрын
i wrote Roland Support about this 2 JDXI units i purchased from Roland, both with same defects. the 1st unit was purchased in 2016 and it became defective within 1 year. i drove it to Roland/Boss repair ctr 50 miles paid $100 for repairs each time, never fixed. the unit's circuitry is defective for both Tempo & Master Volume knobs, causing the unit to slow down /speed up tempo while playing, despite the tempo settings preset in the Program parameters. Volume control slowly fades too. I bought the 2nd unit in November 2019, now it has developed the exact same problem. JDXI needs to admit its defective engineering on this device.

I can't believe I'm saying this but... I actually really don't mind this. I've been moaning over the new Roland imitations, but this one at least does what digital does best -- mashes a ton of functionality into one machine. The other Roland offerings are pretending to be analog by remaining limited like analog machines are....... but they aren't. This, I don't mind. If I wanted to make music on the road, this would be oodles of fun.

Well.. I owe you an apology Scott and hope you read this. Seen a couple of your other vids and got frustrated watching you. Im sorry. You did a great job of drawing me in on this one. Humble pie and custard (its a northern english thing) waiting on my table. Gonna pick a unit up next week.. Not your fault but I wish to god Roland would have at least allowed me to change the time signature. 4/4 is way too limiting.. Im a drummer and 7/4 and 6/8 just makes my heart sing..
@dvamateur9 жыл бұрын
Musicial instruments are not cell phones that sell in millions of same units. Musical instrumetns if they sell 10,000 of a model, they are doing well. The glory days of 6 figure sales of the DX7, D-50, or M1 are long gone. People are extremely strapped for cash. Kids my want the type of gear featured in this video to sound like their favorte EDM artists. Roland is trying to stay alive and in business here. Business is not about pleasing few users with their dream gear, unfortunately.

@@jazzsax357 What are you talking about ? Of course it's got Song mode ! There's even KZfaq tutorials on how to use song mode. I think you're expecting a bit much from a baby Synth. My favourite feature is that is got just about every Roland Drum and Synth sample from the 80's & 90's. Sure it only has 256 built in sounds, but the extra themed sets Roland gives you are another 256 you can upload at a time. That's plenty for me. The analog part is really basic, but I really like having it to mess around with. The 10 built in effects pedal settings are great too. Then there's the vocoder. Name one other $500 Synth that has all this ? Should I mention I also got it for less than 30% of local retail ? 😆😆😆

To me having just watched this and one or two other reviews,it seems very similar to Roland's Mc groovebox range but with a keyboard and a tiny one at that. I find these keys really annoying having large long fingers, It's a novelty synth that doesn't even reach the heights of the likes of the brilliant soon to be released Omnisphere 2 software which I will be purchasing rather than hardware gear like this. Great for the young guns but not to my liking at all, think analogue has got a bit boring
@RustamNur6 жыл бұрын
It's a good synth, but lacking few important things: 1) separate FX send for different parts and drum sounds. 2) when vocal fx turned on, analog part turns off o_0 3) Most important: free and good editor for accessing all the ADSR things and other important tweaks to bring this synth to a serious level! And PLEASE make the transpose function optional, it's a pain when you accidentally hit the not with shift while playing live and muting/unmuting parts. Also I think MOD wheel is not assignable.. Otherwise it's a powerful guy for this money!

Roland, take a box, put a 909, 808, 303 and 4 to 6 JX3P oscillators. You will sell millions and be the hit of the show. Stop with these children's toys please where you "throw in" one analog monosynth that sounds like $50 monotron.
@dvamateur9 жыл бұрын
It's an instrument with such nice capabilities and 128-voice polyphone for $500 is a bargain. Nonetheless, the plexiglass and neon esthetics are not up my ally. Sadly. Integra-7 is far better for me, personally. I paid original $2,000 sticker for the Intergra-7 over a year ago, so yeah, I feel a bit cheated that the cost went town to $1,500. Sad for Roland, cheat for me. But that's what you get sometimes if you buy product too early.
@madcommodore4 жыл бұрын
Don't think this is the 'analog synth' for me at all, this is more Commodore 64 emulated sound than the sound of my own 1982 Commodore 64.
@redbirdsaraceno7 жыл бұрын
The jd-xi arpeggio doesnt trigger using external keyboards ! Roland we need an update thats utterly ridiculous , tiny frail keys so naturally people will want to use a nice midi full size keyboard and the jd-xi as a sound module , yet you left this basic feature out of its design . Come on ! Give us a firmware update that enables arpeggiator via standard midi keyboards please . That should already be included for the price of these and the cheap key board design on the jd-xi - Pathetic , considering selling mine because of these issues .
