Best tutorial I've found on how to use the new looper! You're a great teacher, keeping the instructions clear and straight to the point. Lil tip to enhance the workflow for application of FXs: instead of tapping the MFX button to turn on, then re-tap to turn the FX off, you can push+hold the Value knob down and while it's held, the MFX button works like a Pad set to "Gate", in the sense that the FX of the bus you're on will only be applied when you press the MFX button and hold it, and once you release, the FX goes back to off. It's one of the many lesser known functions of this amazing device I've found very helpful in my workflow. Thanks again for the tutorials man!

So crazy cause I just said the other day, my goal is to end up with just the 404, a laptop, and a little keyboard. Couldn't get there without a looper and a sound generator... This update made it possible.

Super cool video and interesting Setup, thank you so much for you wisdom. Following you for a while now and I love your the content you putting out lately :)) Are 4 bars the max of Looprecording? And can you use just the mic in for looping, but the stereo ext in signal is passed through the sp404 simultaneously? And what do you think of the mic preamps of the 404? Thinking of exchanging my 505mk2 for a sp404mk2, but have major doubts that it would work out.

Question : did they solve the problem in DJ mode of not being able to route the FX bus 1/2 at the channel level ? (was only routable at the pad level only so far)

tip: holding the value knob down and selecting an efffect makes the button momentary; so the effect is only on while you're pressing the effects button!

As a guitarist first and foremost who got into sample based music this Seriously this is what Ive been waiting for from ANY sampler or looper. Preset loop lengths and foot controllable I bought a octatrack to handle this but it’s not really that portable and a little difficult at forms. Great video man, this has sold me

@@garylist7412 this? As in the sp404 ? Sweet water has a video showing The new roland fs1wL will work but since that’s just a midi foot controller I’m assuming any midi foot controller will work

What about saving a loop to a pad (loop1). Then playing that pad back and returning to looper mode to record another loop while loop1 is playing? Possible?

Do you recommend SP-404 mk2 for a beginner with no experience for mainly making beat? I have background in mix & mastering but I want to do more that.

the sp404 is a complicated beast to start with. Not saying you can't, as there are lots of resources out there, but it doesn't really offer the beginning to end beat making experience you're looking for. Would definitely recommend getting comfortable with a DAW first. BandLab is free.

hey, is there an option to record just the ext. source while your listening to a (drum) pattern? i want to record external sound and listen to one of the drumloops or pattern while im live looping. thanks your awesome. edit: because when im recording or resampling the 404 always overdub the drum pattern and its causing like reverb effect more and more every loop it plays.

yes! you just have to change your record settings from MIX to EXT IN

@@Taetro thanks, got that, but I want it like when the beat pattern is running that I can record guitar over it, and then overdub it again. But in that way the beat pattern is recorded too and creates weird sounds....

I haven’t updated yet, but can you use quantize on each layer or does it not quantize at all in looper mode?

quantization only applies to pattern record as that is MIDI. The looper is recording audio, so no quantization (unless you record a quantized pattern into the looper, but that's the same thing as resampling a presetmeasure loop)

@20:19 Was that the push 3 just shoved in there like it was nothing? But only 2 bars? Why not sixteen bars. The same for that underrated 'skip-back' feature. Why only 40 seconds? If only that were 4 minutes or 40 minutes. It would be the new Reel-to-reel. Always on, always in your audio chain, always connected, capturing those spontaneous inspired moments. This is all the difference between what 'they' had back in the day, and what we settle for now, shackled to our daws. Why so tight on memory Roland? Come on Roland, this is 2024, not 1984, give us more memory.

I don't think the MC101/707 has anywhere near the community user base that the SP series has. They are great units but the SP series has a huge and loyal user base. Based on YT video views alone will tell you this. Seach YT for SP 404 sampler and Views get easily around 10K to 500k views, its a cult status unit.

it's a midi keyboard so yes you need to plug it into some source of sound (laptop, synth etc)

Sold mine like 2 moths ago just kept Smpltrek. And boi with this update.....I still don't regret it one bit. Even though not perfect the Smpltrek has 10 tracks for live looping that can be re-recorded on the fly with much weaker HW. I find no excuse not to have this on SP apart from "But then people wouldnt buy RC 505 anymore.?!"
