If he was the lead this show would have been better than s2 snd closer to s1. As it was, it's my least favorite. I will only remember the Woodard scene and him with his gravely voice carrying this season on his back because they didn't give the leading guy anywhere else to go. Be broody, 1 or 2 faces, no laughing, no crying, no emotional anything , just unhappy pretty much the whole show regardless of what you doing, minus a little partnership banter which is the best part.

Agreed. I was so happy when I heard he signed on for season 3. Guy never got the recognition he deserved. Great actor that has a personality that only few can pull off. He's perfect for true detective. Unfortunately they didn't capitalize on his character enough.

I didn't know who Ali was before TD season 3, but he did a great job. I knew Dorff and I never he'd do a great job as well. He's always had great charisma, personality, and just takes over whatever scene he's in. I'm not sure why he's never gotten bigger roles, maybe there's only room enough for one leading short man in Hollywood?

Yeah. Had nothing to do with the case, but this scene and the scene after when he is with the dog were the best. Gotta tell ya I was skeptical when they cast Dorf, but he was the best part of season 3 by far.

Ali character was to....... brooding, just always looking worried or concerned. No clues, no help, shitty bosses, wife bringing up the case, argue, wash rinse repeat. The other seasons had change of pace, break up the slowness of the investigation, everyone's lives. This one wast just floating down the river, Woodard, floating, and then gently bump against some tall grass to end. Meh

Dorff definitely carried the season and while Ali was great too, don't sell Skoot McNairy short either. He was AWESOME and I like to think that Roland felt some small satisfaction in killing that ginger fuck as payback for the way they not only ruined the lives of his kids but also his life too.

Honestly, what else is there to develop about Roland's character? I loved the character, but he was a simple man. Uncomplicated. I don't remember him having kids, or much of a love life.

I always said Dorff would have made the perfect Wolverine. He’s short and looks so much like Logan in the comics.

He wanted to purge some aggression and also punish himself. He did NOT feel guilty for killing the slimey red head guy, but felt guilty that his friend Tom died without ever getting closure.

Realize that’s why people like movies like fight club. Everyone wishes they could blow off aggression like this

Honestly just seeing all the detectives so far hanging out despite the time differences would be really cool. Rust would probably be sulking in the corner being the guy we all love tho haha

Vince Vaughn as Frank in season 2 had some pretty impressive moves boxing santos’ ears off. Rustin Cole had a few scenes but you def got the vibe he could hold his own too. To bad we didn’t get some better scenes there.
