In the foot switch socket there is a hi-hat controller, type FD-8, and you can assign the opening and closing of the hi-hat to any pad in the module. Hi, as an option I can also recommend TM2 (Roland), he also has an SD card and you can upload samples there. The only thing is that it only has 2 external pad outputs. It also works on midi (with the main module), improves the sounds of the bass drum and snare drum. And SPD-S works with an old memory card, if the firmware is the first, then, like up to a gigabyte or 512 MB, such cards cannot be found now. In the latest firmware - like support for up to a gigabyte or two (you should look in the description), I think you can request the firmware from Roland's technical support, or search on their website.
