When Roland FA/Integra-7 and so on models can synthesize grand piano more natural than piano itself (grand piano requires some mic(s) for recording and this is always problem how to choose mic location) this is even more amazing.

@@th3soundmachinz The software System-8 is identical to the one in the hardware, as long as you run it in high quality mode (don't use the "Optimize for Lower CPU Usage" option). The same is also true of the Jupiter-8, Juno-106, and JX-3P plugouts. Of course the hardware is the best way to use these synths, since you have physical controls for every function, but if you don't have the budget or space for it, the software versions will do just fine.

Anyone who bitches that this isn't true analog or just another VA and doesn't sound like a real Jupiter-8 really misses the point. To the best of my knowledge, the only other digital synth on the market that achieves a higher of level of fidelity in the processing is the John Bowen Solaris, at $4k. Granted, Solaris will do more, of course. But there's so much processing power in the System-8, you're going to get fantastic sounds out of it that are dramatic, and clear. If you need true analog, buy a JD-XA, no it's not a Jupiter-8 either, but it is true analog. Or buy a Prophet-6, Modal 008, etc. I've played a Jupiter-8, and agree it's not a true Jupiter. If you must have the exact sound of a Jupiter-8, then save up, find a Jupiter-8, and buy it. But I think it's a waste to complain about this great sounding synth for being what it's not.

To my ears the System-8 emulations sound 98% the same as the originals. No doubt, the Jupiter-8 is a piece of music history and an amazing collector's item, but it will cost you over $12,000 (plus maintenance), and while every Jupiter-8 has its own character based on how the components have aged over time, in the end the System-8 version sounds nearly identical anyway. One thing a lot of people overlook is the System-8 also has velocity sensitivity, which you can use in different amounts for the filter and amp. This actually makes the emulations *way* more expressive than the originals, and has a far bigger impact on the sound than whatever minor differences in the sound you can pick out when you put them under a microscope (which don't matter anyway). You also get eight voices on the Juno-106 and JX-3P (the originals only supported six).

@@Geepstar the Jupiter X is an amazing machine, and so is the Juno X. I haven’t had any issues using either one. You will have to do some menu diving if you want to alter sounds for the Juno and the Jupiter. The nice thing about the system 8 is that all the controls are right there on the surface for the most part. That’s why I kept my system 8. If you have experience with older synthesizers like the Roland Fantom, or even the Korg Kronos, you shouldn’t have an issue with the Jupiter or Juno.

Since people are asking elsewhere, no, the new Zen engine on the Jupiters does not have the same amount of processing power as the ACB under the hood here. This synth isn't without it's shortcomings, lack of aftertouch, in ability to store performance edits, doesn't come with a full library, but there are very few synths, including the Jupiter X and JD Xa (though it does have some analog circuitry) that excel at analog modeling as well as the System-8. This includes the Access Virus. You essentially have to look to something like the Bowen Solaris to find this much processing power to achieve VA precision.

Use to own a Juno - these plugouts - "Juno 106" sounds are a bit better than they would be coming out of the actual Juno series keyboards. Curious though it may be !!!
@st0rmchild
@st0rmchild 4 жыл бұрын
The plugouts are modeled on pristine versions of the originals from Roland's private collection. They basically sound exactly like these synths did when they were brand new. For those that want them to sound vintage, there's a "Condition" parameter that simulates the aging of various components. It's a nice idea but I generally don't use it, because it turns out they sound better when they're working properly (who would have guessed!).

I'm looking at Jupiter-X or System-8. The more I look at the System-8, the more I like it more than the Jupiter. Jupiter-X has the look of Jupiter-8, has tons of polyphony, sounds and effects but it's quite menu driven. It has 5 synths and 5 drum machines plus Pianos. Also you can stack the same synth 4 times meaning, stack 4 Jupiter-8's and still have 32 Voices. System-8 is basically a new JP-8000, however it has 2 Supersaws. It also has more Controls than the Jupiter, it only has 64 presets, however it's Per Plug-Out. Plug-Outs include teh Jupiter-8 and Juno 106 when bought. Plus, 8 Voices is enough. It lacks the Aftertouch but I said it's a New JP-8000. It doesn't have the Ribbon Controller but still. Sidenote: People are saying that the System-8 sounds Warmer than Jupiter-X, which is surprising. System-8 wins over in terms of balance between Sound, Price and Control.

I guess you have to choose between the others having more polyphony and the Virus having many more options in terms of synthesis. The Virus is also a more stout keyboard. I know, it's a bit difficult to explain.. @ 3:04 you turn the (cutoff?) knob, and the sound jumps.. so say, if previous patch had cutoff at zero, but the next one starts with it set to max, then it will be max up until you start turning the knob from zero and then it jumps to zero? I didn't care for it. Each oscillator has an LED indication for "Variation," of which there were only 1 and 2 (a waste of a feature and LED display). I much prefer the Roland GAIA SH-01. Also, the System-8's effects weren't too good, even with the effect level at 100% the effect was not drastic enough (I wanted an intense phasing/flanging effect, but at 100% seemed like it was only at 75%). For this price, you could get the Roland Integra-7 sound module which has all the sounds of the System-8, as well as over 6,000 patches from gone by legends like the Jupiter, Juno, Fantom, etc.

The main concept of the System-8 (the default synth engine) is the ability to switch between different kinds of LFOs, oscillators, and filters, as if you were swapping out modules in a modular synth (hence the "System" name, which Roland previously used only for modular synths). More variations were added to all of those slots later, and that was the plan, so that's why they have LED displays instead of a regular knob with a fixed number of settings. The variation knobs are also used to control features on the Jupiter-8 plugout. If you don't know the difference between component-modeled analog emulations and static samples, you should definitely get an Integra-7 instead. You wouldn't know what to do with the System-8.

Hi the system 8 is connected straight into the audio interface (saffire Pro 40), no sound processing like all my other videos. Sipario controls only the program change in this demo, no audio processing.

Why there is a general presence of distortion on so many sounds, especially pads? Or something is wrong with my speakers perhaps....

DKS SYNTH LAB maybe you have any examples? I’ve seen that Roland Jd-Xa could produce good grand piano sound. And I try to make choice which one to buy. I’ll definitely buy system 8 if it can do piano sound at the same quality level ..

@ DKS SYNTH LAB Okay, well since it doesn't have any digital outputs, does the USB port allow you to transfer "audio" through it into a DAW on the computer? I ask this because that would be beneficial when tracking inside of a DAW like Cubase, Logic, ProTools, Sonar, etc. + By the way, out of all of the hardware synths you have which one grabs your heart the most? + And, what is your favorite software or Virtual Synth (VSTi)?
@ironenthusiast
@ironenthusiast 7 жыл бұрын
Perhaps I don't understand your intentions, but why not just run the VSTi System 8 directly in your DAW? The Roland hardware interface runs the same thing, but isn't necessary unless you intend to use it without a DAW or you simply like the Roland System 8 controller.

They are vastly different beasts. I had both, sold the DM and kept the system-8. Roland does a better job at classic Roland than Behringer, which is what I wanted. DM is still a good synth though.
@karayak6920
@karayak6920 4 жыл бұрын
I have both too. Different approachings when you make new sounds : System 8 workflow is Superb with all the knobs and almost 1:1 control, DM on the other side need a bit more of menu diving, but has more modulation options, keybed with aftertouch, two Lfos instead of one... If I had to choose one, I´ll choose the System 8 for the workflow and for the 4 synth engines you get (I paid same price for both S8 and DM12). But I prefer to keep both :p
