Thanks for the review. I myself purchased a seiko sarg009 as an explorer 1 replacement and a steinhart ocean vintage gmt as an explorer 2 replacement. But they haven’t scratched the itch. Hope other don’t make the same mistake I have. Save, take your time and really buy what you want and have no regrets.

Nice one. I have this same watch and I couldn't be happier with it. With the 2016 improvements i think it's finally perfect. I am also glad they didn't maxi-size the lugs on this (which I think unbalanced the look of the new submariners in my opinion).

Great review and watch. I’ve owned mine for 6 months after flipping my ‘bloated’ bling 114060 monster. Absolutely no regrets it’s just perfect and slips under the radar unless you’re a watch guy who stops you in the street or pub to acknowledge this classic timepiece. Hey nice review, got the same last summer, it's definitely a keeper, only thing I was scared to wear it to beach and pool (although i'm sure it would cope), so had to purchase a more general daily driver for all occasions so also got the Omega 300 Diver Pro, which im not scared to wear to beach or pool or anywhere.

I love mine so much. It has overtaken my Datejust and Planet Ocean to become my Flagship.

I own this watch and I have to say its nice but I do miss a date complication. It is undoubtedly classy and understated but I'm not sure I can go day in day out without a date. I may need to go for a datjust or and Explorer II, perhaps the 40mm

Very nice watch! Congrats on picking it up. I really like this model as it reminds me a lot of the Air King 116900 I have flirted with buying numerous times now. Once you grab a grail watch it can be difficult to share wrist time with your other watches. Guessing the SKX isn't your favorite anymore!

this is the best choice you could make :) just remember to not ever sell it. 40 years from now you will know why. I bought my first Rolex 2 years ago /SeadwellerC/, couple months ago decided to get second one /datejust/ in some near future I plan to get Explorer or air king. Regards from Tampa.

Great review of a great watch! I, too, have succumbed to the 114270s charms and it is the only Rolex I own. Not thrilled with the Oyster Band, however, as it's adjustments seem to be either just too tight or just too loose. Fortunately, as you have suggested, it works very well with almost any strap. Currently I have mine on an "army green" canvas strap which looks great. This - and my quartz '93 Omega SMP - are the only two watches I'm sure to keep for the next generation although I'm also predisposed to keeping my Seiko Alpinist and my Christopher Ward C60 Trident 300 (38mm) which are fine watches, too. A Tudor BB58 might be in my future as well... Keep up the good work & entertaining videos!

just got mine, yours is 1st video i saw on it after. i LOVE it. i almost bought the blue dial steel date just, it wore so well, better maybe, but, the traditional hands on this and black dial etc, i had to get this one. my first rolex. i own many many watches.

So happy for you with your choice. Searching for a simple and classic but yet contemporary watch could also end up in getting the Tag Heuer Carrera Calibre 5, 39 mm. Not to compare, the Rolex is a better watch, but you did mention that you have tried the Seiko SARB and the Hamilton Khaki.

congratulations guy! i'm now in the same phase of getting my first rolex, and yes, the 39mm explorer1 is my choice after trying gmt master and sub. but i have a question, it's about the explorer2, why u chose exp1 over the exp2?

Congratulations on your purchase. Don't feel bad going into the AD multiple times, you are spending a large amount of money. Is the time piece you have the one released last year?

+/- 2 secs a day depending on if or how you wear it? Or +/- 2 sec a day no matter what? Under the center of the dial they should have printed "Explorer" in beige-orange instead of plain white like the rest, just to break the monotone vibe of the dial and to give it a touch of character/class.

I think the Seiko SARB017 Alpinist is probably the best overall "cheap watch" alternative to the Explorer, and honestly I think I prefer the handset design on the Alpinist to the Explorer. One peeve I have with Rolex is they put that Mercedes hour hand on every watch.

i swing between being 100% set on the no date sub and 10055 set on the explorer.... can't decide. i feel that if i only own one watch its the explorer but if i own several i would rather like the sub to be part of the collection

Rolex box is iconic, unique, high quality for what it is but also think about it VERY cheap. It's a very high quality iconic CHEAP ass box, yet NO one complains because the watch is where you get what you paid for, my GMT is so stunning, the design, case, especially the polishing is astonishing! If Rolex can give us a better box then it is perfection! Its 9.99999999999999999999, almost a 10 if a better box upgrade is there.

Dare I ask what one gets from such a watch (the Explorer) that one does not have from an ordinary Oyster Perpetual? Both are 100 meters waterproof, for instance. :).

how accurate is yours? mine is synched with the atomic clock (as all my watches are), let you know tomorrow. +2/-2 is the cert i guess, hope if anything runs slightly fast. my seamaster is a little slow and that drives me nuts

Truly owning a Rolex is a specially feeling it's your first new Porsche. It's an astounding amount of money, getting a discount is like access granted to the Buckingham....the 904L steel they use makes a special sound only a Rolex make, I heard the way it clicks never forget it, partially due to the density and heaviness, its just so so special. Polishing is second to none, nothing even come close to it. The precision is beyond comparison, I am talking about the watch itself not time keeping that's a gold standard everyone know.. for a mass produced watch at this level of quality, precision, it is jaw dropping. To me other top brands don't even come close to make a desirable piece like Rolex, AP, Patek all that included. Actually I don't AP or Patek or Vacheron have the ability to make 2 million watches per year like Rolex at this level of quality at around $10K or less retail...they can't because they are boutique brand that makes 10000 to 50000 watches each only at $15000 to $100000 price range. Rolex is at the very top of Swiss watch making no debate at all to me.

Hmm, that is my favorite Rolex. My wife would have a fit if I bought something like that in this point. Not to say I never will buy one. Not brand new anyway. ,... I just can't justify spending that money right now.
