A unique perspective given a two year spell from a watch you own. Always pleased to see a new vid. Good luck getting back into “work mode” 👌🏼😊

Best diver out there period. As for collectibility of MK1 vs MK2 I don’t swallow that grey market fantasia. The watch will only become collectible when it if Rolex ditch the red text or discontinue the reference altogether.

Nice video Michael. Have had my SD50 (the one with the CROWN in between the Swiss Made at the bottom) around 14 months. I do not wear it all the time and have questioned maybe it was too big. You just got me measuring my wrist and I have the same size wrist as yourself and it looks absolutely awesome on your wrist. As you say if you look in the mirror you seem to get a different perspective of the watch on your wrist. My watch has been in the safe too long, it's coming out today and watching your video I think I will be wearing it a lot more now.

Thanks mate. Put it on and don’t take it off for 3 days. Get the strap nice and snug on you and you’ll be fine ;) our eyes have a weird perspective for watches anyway due to the angle. The mirror and photographs show the true reality

This is the first review that shares my feelings about the 126600 to 100% . Congrats! (On the other side I must expect that a lot of other Reviewers haven‘t worn them and got the watch only for a day or even a few hours in their hands.)

I think time spent with a watch is imperative. One has to own a watch really, rather than just hold and review. Agreed. Thanks mate !

What car is deep sea haha? I have the SD43 with 7.8 in wrists and love it as my everyday with a rubber b strap (red accent) but recently tried on a DSSD and couldn’t resist loving the absolute absurd height of the piece but looks great on my wrist but could never be a daily, ever tried one on? I love the curved sapphire crystal and presents different light reflection than the sd43

Lovely watch - I prefer the black 42mm explorer 2 to the white. The white looks a little childish. But the 40mm explorer 2 looks better in white. Tastes eh

Hi Michael. I'm really enjoying the way you talk about your journey. Your candid and sincere take on watch collecting. Each watch has its own personality and it can take time to understand or appreciate what each watch is all about, or what it means to you anyway, as you progress in your collection and sometimes rediscover certain pieces under a different angle or with a newfound perspective only time can give you. I got my SD43 mk1 around the same time as you, May 2017 in my case. I remember watching your reviews at the time, again telling it like it is, how you felt about it, not trying to convince anyone, just sharing your honest impression, your doubts on this new addition compared to your Sub, from a real owner's perspective. There's so much bullsh"t around from watch channels who are there to sell watches or to promote what they've got to try and pump the price up, protect their investment and all that cr*p. This is why it's so refreshing listening to you, mate. On the SD43 itself, to me it is exactly what I wanted the Submariner to be from day one. A larger Sub with slender lugs. Combined with the wider bracelet, it's got that almost integrated look, which the 116610ln didn't have with its blocky case and narrower endlinks. As for the dial, I find the glossy finish of the black Sub too shiny, the ceramic bezel being already more than enough. With the SD43, not only is the dial matte, it's also textured, like the old 1665 was, with that gritty and granular utilitarian finish. Then of course the emblematic red line of text amplifies the singularity of the piece, as a nod to the first 1967 Sea-Dweller prototype. The size is also a big plus for me. Like you, I have 18,5cm/7.2in wrists, not huge, but I find the black Sub40 Date to look too small on my wrist, for a diver. I haven't tried the black Sub41. I do own the tarted up TT Bluesy Sub41 which I wear at the weekend for a bit of pop, but being sunburst blue it doesn't look that small. If Rolex were to make a TT SD43 blue dial, I'd probably swap my Sub41 though. To me, the black SD43 is the closest thing to perfection when it comes to a black SS diver. My first Rolex was the YM pt dial ref 116622 which I got in 2015. A dressy sports watch with an exquisitely finished case, rounded and curved lugs, such a sexy piece. This is the watch I wear the most, especially at the office from Monday to Friday. I recently added a proper HH dress piece, a VC Patrimony WG 85180, Pure class to me, very conservative but with a twist: a modern 40mm case, so with its thin bezel, the silvered gold dial looks massive (for a dress piece). This is my taste, I can't wear small watches, find them underwhelming. I used to favour chunky divers when I got into watches. Started with the PO 45.5 in 2005, still wear it every now and then (same as Daniel Craig's in 2006 Casino Royale). Then I fell in love with the Breitling Seawolf white dial, a beast of a watch, a tank, very satisfying. Bought some microbrands divers too like the Crepas Cayman 3000, another behemoth, but too shiny with its glossy black dial, I don't wear it much, but it has other attributes that make me want to wear it after a while. They all have something in common: they manage to keep nice proportions despite their size, which is something the Deepsea is struggling with, to me at least, so I never wanted one. To conclude on the SD43 or 50 as you like to call it (you're not the only one), after almost five years of ownership, it still makes me swear "fu**ing h*ll" when I look at it, just like that first time I tried it on at the AD. It's perfect for our hairy and manly wrists, Michael, if I may say so, looks absolutely stunning. It's different, not your ubiquitous black Sub. Please, don't encourage people to look into it, screw resale value, we're not in it for the money, keep it our well garded secret. This is a connoisseurs' piece. Take care my friend and wear your great watches in good health.

Hi Nexus. Thanks for the awesome insight. Funny as I just watched this video again since I liked how the sub featured in it with the lighting. I’ve been wearing my sd43 non stop these last few weeks and really appreciate its uniqueness. It’s so refreshing to wear in the sea of GMT’s and Subs etc out there. Have only ever seen one sd43 in the wild and hundred of other Rolexes. Let’s be honest, people just wish they could pull off the SD43 ;) but it’s nothing for everyone. It’s a dude’s watch. You’ll like how my SD43 featured on my wrist in my recent watches and wonders reaction!

Hey Michael - long time fan. In the process of getting my first Rolex here in the US and after years of being focused on the Sub / GMT, I've suddenly taken a liking to the YM40 with sunburst blue dial (126622). It's beautiful and possibly more interesting than the "standard" choices. Any thoughts on this model?

I have a great collection but this is the watch that is on my wrist the most. In fact, it's on my wrist right now (the Mk1, which was only produced for the 1st production year...so it's the real 50th Anniversary). It's hard to tell, and perhaps I missed you mentioning it, but it appears you have the Mk1 as well. A lot of people don't even know there was an Mk1 dial and an Mk2 dial. Of those that know, the vast majority thinks it only means that there is no crown between "Swiss Made" but there is one other difference...the "1" on the Mk1 (in the depth rating) is a straight line whereas the Mk2 has a wisp at the top of the 1. It's these kinds of details that drive aficionados, and collectors, crazy.

Hi Micheal, thanks for the update. I have also struggled in the past with my SD43, the glidelock is really what makes it wearable. I disagree with you on the Deep Sea though, the 126660 is actually more wearable than the SD43 (I own both). I know you have the older one, have you tried on the current model?
@SteelmoonWatches2 жыл бұрын
I probably just compare my DS to my old Breitling sea wolf- I never wear it. The sd50 is a firm favourite for me
@damachine32 жыл бұрын
I own both as well (SD43 Mk1 and the current JC DS) and I wear both quite a bit. I don't see my DS as more wearable but it's definitely more wearable than most people say...at least for my wrist, and my taste. I also have Submariners but I prefer these two. If you truly want wearable, try a SS Sky-Dweller or an Oysterflex Daytona. I love wearing those.
@beagle101ful2 жыл бұрын
Have to agree. I owned the SD43 and the JC Dblue. The caseback on the SD43 is so deep with a tiny surface area, making to very uncomfortable to me. I LOVED the watch but couldn’t wait to get it off my wrist by the end of the day. YMMV. The JC Dblue has a much better caseback design, (if you can handle the case height).
@damachine32 жыл бұрын
@@beagle101ful Perhaps it has something to do with the fact that the caseback for the DS is grade 5 titanium. Not sure. But I agree it is more wearable than it gets credit for. Perhaps I'm just used to my SD43. I'll pull out my JCDS, go back and forth, and see what I think.
@spg7702 жыл бұрын
@@beagle101ful My thoughts exactly. I would sometimes carry a pouch in my briefcase just so I could take of the SD43 when it got too uncomfortable. On the contrary, I’m able to sleep with the DSSD on.

Prefer the original SD without cyclops. Personally I prefer the SM with cyclops. Keep it original. Imagine when the SM watch comes out with a redline, there will be even more intrest as the waitinglist for the SM is much longer than the SD 43 today.
