I have the “Shark” gray Rhodium dial and love it. I looked at the sub as well but, went with the Yachtmaster for my first and only Rolex because it I felt it could look great with a suit or go casual. Thanks for your review. I think it’s one of the most under appreciated models and rarely seen in the wild. It’s crazy how the color changes in the sun. Thanks for the video

Great watch. My wife just decided today that this is the one she wants as her first Rolex. It fits her slender wrist so much better than a sub.

I like the curved cases a little more. The super case sports models feel so much more unrefined than the YM, DJ, Explorer, Daytona etc. They just feel better. I understand the popularity of the sub and GMT etc but the curved case models to me are more of a joy to own, wear and look at. That YM with the sunburst blue dial and the shock of red is lovely too!

I have the very first Yacht-Master that came out around 91/92 and the bezel rotated only one way like the Submariner back then. It also has the pin holes on the outside of the case. The case on the later models was improved and along with the bezel was smoother and nicer to the touch. Good video and lovely watch. I'm very tempted to get one of these.

Personally, I love the YM. This is the only SS variation I don't have. The Rhodium dial is probably my favorite because of the dial color and the baby blue second hand. Great vid and deeper dive on the watch. Thanks

Lovely watch, I like those Yacht Masters, especially the one with the blue sunburst dial you got, it's a great alternative to the Submariner🙂

Congregations on the Yachty, Marc. I like to think of this watch as a “Jumbo Turn-O-Graph”, due to the bi-rotating bezel and the ritzier look than the Sub. I’d love to own one.

Nice concise review Marc. I've had my blue dial two and a half years now and I adore it. I think the Yacht Master 40 will become a future classic. I like the fact that it is fairly rare to see one out in public, whereas Submariners are becoming as plentiful as fleas on a dog's back.

Another great and informative video from you Mr Goldberg. I am torn between this watch here in UK at £9450 and an almost new Sub at £2000 less. Of course the Sub is seriously above list and this watch isn't. The Sub is an itch that needs to be scratched but I do like this watch. I wonder if it would hold its value or be a problem in a few years' time. Any thoughts Mr G?

I'm indoors most of the time. Would most indoor lighting make the dial look Black/Navy like your video shows? Does the beautiful blue sunburst dial only really show up outdoors?

Greetings Marc , if really not a dive watch then is it correct to say not a tool watch ? What is the purpose of the 60 minute rotating bezel ? I’m Brooklyn born and now live in New Jersey so I thought a regatta was a tomato sauce. If bezel measures a boat race how do you measure the time of the race especially since there are I presume a number of boats starting at different time. Keep up the good work.

I find the Easylink more than adequate. It's surprising how that 5mm copes with winter to summer temperature variations. You only need glidelock with a wetsuit, and the YachtMaster is after all, not a dive watch.

It's a beautiful watch and the fit on the wrist with the curved lugs is similar to the Daytona. I owned one for about a year but in a moment of total madness I part-exchanged it for another Rolex. I regretted it so much that I recently bought the exact same model again. Be careful with the Platinum bezel as it can get scratched quite easily. I often wear mine on a black RubberB (with the thin blue stripe), and it looks stunning. You made a great choice, and since it was discontinued the 116622 is increasing in value.

It's not been discontinued.

@@robertocamporesi3331 The 116622 was discontinued in 2019 and replaced by the 126622 which has the new calibre 3235 and now costs a lot more at retail than the 116622 did.

Great watch but that sunburst blue can be a little bit jarring. I prefer the 116622 in solid platinum dial or even in rhodium colour.

Are you sure the entire bezel is platinum? Just bought the 126622 and the manager told me that just the insert was platinum. I compared the outer bezel portion to a sub he had in the store and it made sense to me. If you look closely, it does look like there is a separation between the bezel itself and the inside insert. I think the outer portion is steel. What say you?

The 116622 bezel is definitely entirely platinum. I wouldn't know about earlier references.

Love the watch but that Platinum insert gets destroyed with use. Not destroyed but scratches galore. With Rolex's master of ceramics now why don't they change the insert to a ceramic insert and avoid this "flaw"?

Well I've had my YM over two years now and the bezel still looks fine. And no, I don't featherbed it, but I don't abuse it either, just look after it.

That is an awsome watch. It is out of reach for me. It is nice. I used to have a late 1990's Yachtmaster and I don't think the bezel was Platinum. It was the older style clasp that looked cheap. The dial was blue. I had to sell it due to financial hardship. After 9-11 happened. Jobs were being lost left and right.

I own this exact same model. Might be the most beautiful watch ever. Absolutely love it. Perfect for any situation. And by the way....the bezel is not the scratch magnet many make it out to be. I've had mine for a few years and not one mark on it.

Very classy watch I love the Yacht Master. But I have a GMT Master II Black. Where would this fit in. When dealing with Rolex sports models I just feel if you have one your done you don't need another Rolex. But it is pretty.

Well, i think it's a bit dressier than the GMT. For example, i have a 3 piece collection: sd4k, 114060 and the yachtmaster. The sea dweller is the tool watch i wear at work, the Sub in my free time and the YM on weekends, when going out dining, etc. But in the end, those are all just made-up reasons to justify buying another watch ;)
