AMAZING video! Thank you so much! You know who is getting views these days? Roll20 turtorial videos!! LOL! A million+ new gaming nerds like myself diving in head first!! I have played on Roll20 for two months now, and ran my first game last week. I already knew a bunch of basics, but holy cow, some GREAT tips here sir! The resizing the map to grid = perfect. The quick battle map (flip mat as you called it) = genius (we already did something similar on the fly in one game). Splitting up the party banner = genius! The making your own maps/textures thing was also pretty cool. I'm using ready made maps already (finishing off the Tomb of Annihilation), so the setting up maps properly was genius. Last game we just had tokens moving around willy nilly, which was fine, but this will be MUCH better. On to your dynamic lighting video next!!

Using roll20 for the first time. Immensely helpful tutorial. The thought had literally never occurred to me that I could google grid maps of the actual dungeons and just overlay them with the snap grid. Then using dungeon map maker site to do the same thing on homebrew dungeons? Super grateful, thanks for this.

Sweet, for the getting maps to match the grid. I messed around with loads of different things, thanks. That's why watch random Roll20 stuff helps you learn more as searching doesn't always help as you need to know what to search for first.

Also tinting helps create variety in tokens as well. Having limited number of tokens and needing to do a crowded tavern, I simply changed the color on them and it didn't look like a convention of identical octuplets :)

I've been playing for, uh, kinda my whole life (regularly for about 15 years) but I'm a baby DM. Using Roll20 because of the geography of my players. It's been kinda overwhelming from this side, but this video series has changed everything for me. Glad I caught it early because I was flubbing things a bit. This map trick is going to be a lifesaver, because I could only get "align to grid" working about half the time.

Great video. Been watching your Roll20 videos all day, and learned some new thigns, or a better application for old tools I had moved on from. This last dungeon idea is something I've been doing for a while, and found a better execution of, but this is pretty good for quick and dirty. I would like to point out one thing about donjon maps. Each square is 10 feet, and if you look very closely it breaks down into 5 foot sub divisions. You have your map set so that each square is 5 foot. Which can be fine! Just be aware. The site owner's random generators are very old school in that way. That being said, I love Donjon maps, and I use the site religiously. It works for far more than 5th Edition, 4th Edition, but also works for 3.x and Pathfinder, and AD&D and basic D&D. And even more potentially. So much you can do with it. Happy gaming! ^_^

I almost always use the "align to grid" tool. It works almost perfectly for digital maps, for drawn maps it usually comes down to a compromise, because the grid is never the same over the whole map. The only time I don't use the align to grid one is when my map is on an "off" scale, like 10-15-20 or 30 ft squares for example. Oh, and your method works better with a hex map too, because I just never seem to grasp what 3x3 area to actually highlight with the map tool!

What I've discovered about the align 2 grid tool is that if your map does not have a full-square on every side, it won't work. It assumes that the edges are the beginning of a full square. So I've used Paint.net (LOVE IT) to crop it to the full square on each side and works fine. YMMV.

Its starts snapping to something i cant see, if i try to move it, its a mess. None of this is very intuitive.

Hey there. I enjoyed this video quite a bit, however it made me wonder a few things about tint. Tried to see if I could answer my own question by logging into roll20 but failed to find the 'yes', and did not see on the forums a 'no' so I'll ask if you or anyone else here knows: Is there a way to tint multiple tokens/map objects ect. at once? Reason this is important is that I have a friend who has a hard time seeing and needs a lot of contrast in colors but I want the group to be able to see what I have set in my mind as well... so I was trying to find a way to *quickly* tint a lot of things at once then be able to remove or put back to original tint as I had prior.

If you have made a video of that already I would appreciate a link to that video or if someone know of one perhaps you can send me a link. OR if you were so inclined perhaps and have some tricks for it I would appreciate it if you made a video showing how. Thanks
