My late father used Rollei 35 for many years until the digital point-and-shoot camera came along in the late 1990s. He bought it right after my birth in 1966. When I was teenager, my father planned to loan me his Rollei and teach me how to configure the settings for each scenario. He decided it was too complicated and time-consuming so he gave me the Kodak 110 camera instead to start with. Eventually, I got Olympus XA2 in 1982, which I used for eighteen years until the shutter malfunctioned and couldn't be cheaply repaired. I bought its replacement, Canon IXUS, which served me well for a several years. When my father passed away recently, I came across his Rollei and its accompanying analog flash with its own manual settings. I decided to learn how to work with it and use it for the film photography. This video is really a huge inspiration for me!

Absolutely fantastic camera, I had a black Rollie 35s as my main camera in the 80s, it went everywhere with me. Sharpest lens i ever owned until now. Was getting sick of my DSLRs end of last year and, remembering my lovely Rollie, I wanted to revert to the simplicity of those times so have just bought a Leica X113 with a 23mm f1.7 Summilux. I havent been disappointed and it has completely transformed my photography ;-)

How cool is that! When I saw this video I remembered that I played with this camera when I was a kid. Then I had a look into an old suitcase I found in my father's house and found it. Fortunatelly I ordered two films for "new" X-700 so I can put one film into the Rollei instead. Thanks for remembering me!!!

FYI: the Rollei 35 was not a Rollei design; it was designed by Heinz Waaske for Edixa, as Edixa closed down he took the design to Rollei, and that's what it became. I often wonder: if Edixa did not close down and carried on to build it as the Edixa 35, it might not be as valued as it is now.

I had the Minox 35 GL, but always stopped by any camera store to have a look at this Rollei 35. Really like the way it looks and the manual handling. The Minox was aperture preference. This guy appears to have a great sense of distance to the motif or subject. All pics are sharp. I suppose it's not a rangefinder, just a finder camera. Great video Eduardo.

I've just bought a Rollei B35 with strap, case and original box for £35 hope it's as good as Mark's 35 s

My gf had one of these in the 80s It produces nice pictures The main issue with it is that you need to have lots of lens cover because they just fall down when you take the camera out of your pocket

I have one, and the lens is outstanding. I am a big Olympus fan, but nothing comes even close to German lenses. The Rollei 35 is such a cool camera. Small, unobtrusive, precise. On my Rollei 35 the light meter never really worked, but who cares anyway. You just go full scale focus, sunny 16!

Love the drumming… Nice video too. I have a Zenit EM which I haven't used for decades, but am considering going back for one last go. I'm fully digital now, and am spoiled by the fact that I can shoot raw, and get my colour shots back if I so need, after opting to shoot b&W, particularly in street photography. eg. the shot in the video looking towards St. Paul's on the wobbly bridge, [5:51] That would've been extra brilliant in colour; those colourful brolly's against the overcast London grey sky… I would've been kicking myself if I was shooting black & white and wasn't able to get those colours back like I can shooting raw on my dslr. Nice job though :0)

This has since become my favourite camera in my collection, with this video absolutely selling me on whether or not I should purchase it about two years ago now!. Small but mighty, as they say!

Hey bro. I have a rollei35 and i know it's not easy to get pin sharp pics coz it doesnt show up in the viewfinder. Its more of a distance focused camera. Hello! Great video! But ive been having problems with my rollei 35.. My shutter latch is not working or atleast it might be locked do you by any chance know what could have caused it? Does it need the px13 battery?

Oh, I was waiting for that so long. Finally an orange filter :) Don't take it personal, Eduardo, your pictures always are nicely composed buy most of the time lacked the contrast I prefer that you only get with the proper filters. I almost never shoot BW without at least a Yellow 12. Plus of cause the Pan F with its high contrast. Nice

I can't believe they made (or still make?) filters that fit a Rollei 35. Where did Mark find one of those?

I have a Rollei 35 with Tessar (made in Germany), and I love it. Your shots are excellent, I'd never have thought to use Ilford 50, although I've used Efke 25.
