Nice video but i would appreciate if you answered the question in the video picture about the grease

You don't have to remove the brake screw to release the brake before applying grease

Hi Chris, thanks for your comment. I'm not sure if this is a question or a statement but you don't have to release the brake before applying the grease. However, if you think of a brake being seized already then yes, you will have to release it so the wheel can spin before applying the grease. I hope this makes sense

Hi, how often should I put lubricant on my nexus 7? And should I put lubricant there at all? What lubricant do you recommend?

Or you just fill it with the grease bottle in the first place, any excess will get discarded by the brake... There's no need for weighing grams.

Will roller brake grease reduce in viscosity if warmed up in a say a warm water bath or by heating with a hair dryer ? The rubber stoppers on those syringes if reused can get stuck and come off the plunger. The 2 parts are only held together by the flexible rubber wrapping round the end of the plunger and can be pulled off by hand. You can re-coat the inside with a tiny amount of replacement silicone oil to stop this. A bike pump with the rubber washer for a presta value can be used to blow the stopper out backwards but you will have a mess if the syringe contains anything. Tweezers also work but you can puncture or rip the stopper.

Hey, it's been a while since your last comment, and I hope everything's going well on your end. First of all thanks a lot for pointing out the missing letter. Unfortunately, I am unable to change this once the video has been published. Regarding the grease viscosity, I'll be honest with you, I'm not a scientist, and I haven't conducted experiments on whether the viscosity of roller brake grease decreases when heated or boiled so I'm unable to join this debate. Regarding the syringe, you're right about the rubber seal expanding over time. However, since roller brakes are only greased periodically, cleaning the syringe after each use should extend its lifespan considerably. For those servicing roller brakes regularly, like in bike shops, the choice between minimising waste by not using the syringe and ensuring the correct amount of grease, as recommended by the manufacturer, can be a decision point. Also, I think that there might be syringes available that don't rely on a rubber seal, offering a potentially greener alternative. And lastly, thanks so much for the tip on how to remove the rubber stopper from the syringe. I'm sure it will be very useful to other viewers🙂

is their any substitutes for shimano roller break grease ?
@cyclemaintenanceacademy6 ай бұрын
Hi, and thanks for your question. I'm not familiar with the alternative. The Shimano roller brake grease is quite unique, containing talc, bentonite, and quartz, making it abrasive and serving different functions than standard bike grease. There might be a similar type of grease that I'm not aware of, used on other types of vehicles, and machines. If you come across any, feel free to let me know! 🙂

The brand Elvedes makes a grease for rollerbrakes. I've read on some forums about people trying other greases and having success, but I'll stick to rollerbrake specific stuff
