In this video, I talk about my experiences in switching between roller skates (quads) and blades (aggressive inlines) and the pros and cons of each setup. I hope it may help you decide which one is right for you or give you ideas to try both! For me, skating both roller skates and blades has made me a better aggressive skater.

lovely video. it’s a pet peeve of mine when people say it’s “harder to balance” on quads than on inlines (or vice versa) without mentioning the difference between lateral stability and longitudinal stability. it also bugs me when they try to say one is *objectively* “better” or easier than the other, based on nothing but their personal preference. the comparisons you make are actually logical and helpful.

Yes I feel the same that's why I wanted to make this video to show the differences so people can judge for themselves what would suit them better. I could have gone on longer but then it would be an epic video 🤣

I like quads better because I started with skateboarding, so the setup is like having 2 mini skateboards on my feet if that makes sense. Just starting on quads about a month now and I love your content. Keep it up 😁

Very informative video! And visuals and explanations are great! I tell the same when people ask me about difference between inlines and quads. Experience of using two types of skates and switching between them is kinda rare, so it's very helpful, thank you for including these details 👏🏻👍🏻

I don't do skate park tricks so my preference is skates for music/dance-moves and blades for distance exercising and roller hockey. One of my faves... Skid to side stoppies are more fun on skates than blades.

Great break down! I love that you use lines to show the difference in wheel bases. I've seen you use it in other videos (being perpendicular to the transition in a ramp) and it's very helpful for visual learners. I've been thinking about trying inlines because is struggle with a short wheel base. Would skating without a toe stop better prepare me for inline skates?
@ShortysSkateSeries
@ShortysSkateSeries 3 жыл бұрын
It may help you but having your toe stops in can help you to catch yourself if you tip forward too much. If you want to take your toe stops out I recommend wearing your protective gear at the beginning just in case.

I really enjoyed your video! When I was a kid, I skated on blades doing mostly fitness skating (because I was too scared to go to the park, haha). Recently though, I've been into park skating on quad skates and I really like having a toe stop. I'm curious about trying aggressive inlines at the park, but I've been weary of not having a toe stop. I like your breakdown and I think I'll give aggressive inlines a try soon!

Great comparison! I really struggled with blades due to the lack of lateral stability compared to my quads. I ended up converting them with the Toto Ghali UFS quad plates. The wheelbase is huge (215mm compared to my quads which are 175mm) so I find they give me the best of both worlds - hard supportive boot, wide trucks, huge grind block and long wheelbase. Just wish I could skate them better though 😆

I've seen roller skate modifications like that. Are they heavy? I use to have shin problems that why I switched to Bont boots ages ago for roller derby as they are super light. I haven't skated on any other brand since then.
@frizzer1970
@frizzer1970 3 жыл бұрын
@@ShortysSkateSeries yep, they are really heavy! I think the Roces boot I use is heavy anyway so I could eventually switch to something like a Seba Carbon boot to save a bit of weight.

I just recently swaped from decades of blading to quad-skating in a park now. And yes I really feel it has helped me in ways to unlock some tricks that I first thought to be too scary with blades but appeared easier with quads (since there are toestops for example). Thus I wholeheartedly agree that it helps on getting better faster :) On the other hand it will take me ages before I will attempt any sort of slide with my quads since they are a low-cut sneaker style shoe and I don't trust slides yet without the anklesupport I was used to with blades :D
@ShortysSkateSeries
@ShortysSkateSeries 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah ankle support it important for me too. That's why I like my Bont Parkstars as they are supportive, but not as supportive as a blading boot of course.

This video is brilliant. I’m 51 and have skated quads for 40 years. I decided to start park skating and using Aggressive inlines, but it’s feels a lot different, mainly stopping on them, I’m so used to having a toe stop. I got myself a pair of Chaya Park Jump 2 quads, which are great. I’m at a crossroads though, do I give the inlines more of a try (I’m very impatient 😂) or stick to quads which I already know? 😕 Your my favourite skater by the way 🔥

This is super helpful! I grew up with inlines and prefer them but watching my quad skater friends, it seems like they can do more fancy footwork. Are you aware of any tricks that can only be done on quads and not inlines?

The are the Bont Discotruxs. They ones on my skate are only 70mm which isn't as wide as the Penny trucks, but they will soon be coming out with an interchangeable 100mm axle soon.
