Roller Skating on ABC news

When ABC News came to Michelle Steilen asking for todays roller skating story, they talked about the need for a physical release outdoors during these unprecedented times. Although a surge in sales has come with the growing industry, Moxi was sure to let them know Its not a revival!
Michelle recommended ABC feature Bill Butler to give proper credit to the Black skating community that’s been keeping roller skating alive between the trends and Ana Coto who has been inspired to take rink moves out and into the middle of the streets! Check it out!

props to them for mentioning that skating never died down in black communities. so many skaters and skate channels or features have dropped the ball on that.

This did such a good job covering this! Literally the appeal the videos have is all taken jam skating. We owe it to the black community for making skating that much more creative.

So happy to see this! And the highlight to Black skaters ahh! I really hope it continues to grow. I want skating to be more accessible. It's harder here on the east coast of the US

You are so right Pepper,because we never stopped skating.Rinks closed,closed,closed,and then many new ones opened.Places like HotSkates in Lynbrook,NY had their greatest success once we came onto the scene.We came in through Angie,Big Bob on the turntables,and it took of from there.Then we started teaching classes and on Friday nights,Tanya Dean's SKATEROBICS team started bringing hundreds of students,with our skating DJs,who saw the same vision.Sadly,HotSkates closed,yet as you see,Moxi Skates,Five Stride,Riedell,Edea,Bones,Vanguard,RollLine,Snyder/Sure Grip,and many other companies,cannot even keep any stock in the stores.It's so great to see Bill,Lynna,Harvey,Mike Johnson(RIP)/crew,and so many others,still keeping the culture alive.Of course I cannot name everyone,because i have been skating over 40 years,yet everyone has a light under this sun.It's all about safe fun,and developing oneself,as a person,for yourself...

I really can't stress enough about the high you get from skating. I'm a big stoner and still like to smoke but the buzz I get from skating is so nice

Love it. So many new skaters. Out rinks are open. Every time I go to the rink at least 5 people ask me for help. It’s so fun and a great way to meet new people. Even the little kids. They ask me how to spin heehee. The next generation.
