The caan characters closest team mateand friend is rendered into a vegetative state after a violent assault .
Later In the hospital, the Caan character comes to see his friend who is kept alive on machines
The doctor informs Caan that his friend is kaput and would CAan conveniently sign the dismiss papers for his friends life-support to be switched off, as his friend is now seen as a useless product through the corporate eye.
Caans empathy has been fully resurrected and he finds reasons to keep his friend alive and has him shipped out personally just in case he still dreams or has a subtle life still activated
Also in this scene is displayed the viscious anti-empathic decision making of the coroprate boardroom where humans are seen as products for profit or debit .

2:46. There aren't any rules at all. That's when Jonathon understands. The corporations make the rules, such as they are, and change them when they no longer suit the situation. Thus, there are no rules.

Phenomenal to look back on this 1975 movie and revisit the reasons why it had such an impression on me as an elementary school child- very futuristic.

Houseman's character (Bartholomew) talks a lot about the "greater good" and how "no player is more important than the game." His arguments seem reasonable on the surface. As this movie goes on, we learn more about this society and find out how shallow and self-serving the 1% in this society really are. People in power always fear exceptional individuals who aren't part of their team and who don't play by their rules.
