I went on a roller coaster once and it broke down on top I thought that was the last time I’d be seen alive. A few days after I went on another rollercoaster and lost my shoe but luckily I didn’t go get it because if I did I most likely would of being hit. I’d still go on rollercoasters though even though I seem to have bad luck with them.

Most of the time when people die at an amusement park it's because the people are careless or they take place at places that could barley qualify as an official amusement park. You are more likely to die on you way to the park than dying on an amusement ride. You are also more likely to be struck by lighting 3 times than to get a serious injury on a roller coaster.

Another thing about the smiler: rollercoaster rides are usually very safe when it comes to keeping trains from colliding. Normally, another train would be stopped before entering a section that is in use, but the ride operators manually over-rid the program that keeps crashes from happening, and therefore, the 2 trains crashed.
@Rick01089
@Rick01089 2 жыл бұрын
I'm sorry but that is not how a block system works on any modern rollercoaster. It is nowhere near as simple as you described to bypass or clear a block manually with a train existing. Which also isn't done by operators.

I was suspecting the infamous Alton Towers incident appearing on this list. It’s something I’ll never forget, especially considering the sheer level of coverage it got when it first broke out and the circumstances discovered around it soon after. Despite this and a whole load of other similar events, I don’t really fear rollercoasters or any high-velocity theme park rides, but rather the people working within the parks that slip the problems through the cracks whether they know about them or not.

I worked at an amusement park. They ran the ride without people for three turns, then filled the seats with employees and ran it a few more. They said it was a job benefit. Never been a fan of roller coasters, I declined. A benefit? They are testing the rides. Not so sure if it was a benefit; it was one I never appreciated... We never had an accident, and our technicians were borderline obsessed. It was like a ship, they loved her. Best possible situation.

I live near Dreamworld where that accident happened in Australia. That ride is the slowest, most unassuming ride you could be on despite the word "Rapids" being in the name. It's not heart racing or anything, so it was absolutely shocking when that malfunction happened on a ride like that and killed those poor people. It was so shocking that First Responders had to be counselled and some ended up resigning from their jobs. So sad.

At-- 11: 50 -- The Haunted Castle at Great Adventure in Jackson, New Jersey.... I only went through that once and had a bad feeling about it and not long after that's when the fire took so many lives. The park blamed it on teenagers useing a lighter to see but I don't belive that, I went through it and could see. When I worked at Great Adventure in Jackson a few years latter in security and on stage and back stage stuff where the Haunted Castle was they now had bumper cars and at night sometimes they would go on their own. Ok, maybe an electric glitch right? It really would happen on the OFF SEASON ....when NO POWER ...was hooked to that ride. What is there now I don't know cause I don't live in N.J. now. When I was little I went on a wooden coaster with my family and instead of the over the shoulder restraints they have now, they had a single lap bar that the occupants of each seat shared. I was quite small for my age (~40 lbs) and the operator of the ride stupidly paired me up with my dad so the lap bar came nowhere near holding me in the seat. I was old enough to know right away this was really bad. So I grabbed on the upper bar as hard as I could (this bar wasn't a restraint, it was in front of you for something to hold on to to stabilise your upper body if you needed it). On the first drop, my lower half lifted out of the seat and over my head. If I didn't have a death grip on that bar I would have 100% fallen out (I basically did fall out but because of my grip I was still attached to the car). At the bottom of the drop, I slammed back drown into the seat which hurt a lot. My dad didn't see this happen and was just laughing because all he saw was that I was freaked out from a ride that I insisted on going on. Then the second drop came and this time my dad saw me start to lift out of the seat this time and managed to grab me when I was about halfway out and pull me back into the seat and basically sat on me for the rest of the ride to keep me pinned to the seat. Believe it or not I still love roller coasters and other amusement park rides and will even go on a wooden coaster (though they are definitely NOT my first choice).

Crazy timing. The same day you posted this, a man in Utah died as a result of falling from the Skyride at the Lagoon amusement park. It's not a rollercoaster per se, as it is more like a chairlift that brings people from one part of the park to another. Still, falling 50 feet and dying from the resulting injuries is not what most people have in mind when going to an amusement park.

As someone who has been on more than 500 unique coasts in 11 countries, don't let this video scare you. Accidents at major theme parks are incredibly rare and getting rarer as safety standards continue to rise. (And most rides in this video are not roller coasters). And while I normally love this channel, the Battersea accident was written completely wrong. The lift cable snapped and the train rolled backwards down the lift and through the station, where the operator tried slowing the train with the manual brake system (the coaster was old and didn't have more modern safety features). It didn't derail until after passing through the station and taking a curve too fast, and backwards.

A channel fully for weird or interesting deaths/Survival stories is a good idea. Mister ballen cornered that market tbf but still space. In the perfect world you guys would work together and give him some of your animation work in return for something fair. But i doubt that could ever hap[pen.

I absolutely love Mr Ballen. He's one of my top 3 favorites for a looong time. His videos are phenomenal (albeit not always 100% accurate), but I wouldn't really say he cornered the market. There are a lot of other KZfaqrs that have a "cult following" that do longer, more detailed videos. I'm not putting him down by any means(he's one of the only one's I watch *immediately* after posting) I'm just putting it out there that it's a hard market to corner. But he absolutely shares a room 😂

Infographics, please state the safety precautions because you make coasters sound like you're going to die on any coaster. This stuff happens, but parks try their best to maintain rides, especially in bigger parks and more developed countries. Rides have to be tested EXTENSIVELY for them to be signed off by manufacturers that make the rides. Listen to what the park says. Don't ignore what they say, because it could end badly. Also waterslided can safely go at 70mph, but it's what you do with that speed that matters.

My grandmother never had a problem with us riding roller coasters or other amusement park rides except for the swings. She and a sister told the story of when they went to a fair in rural Texas in the late 1920s. A chain broke and flung a person into a booth where they were decapitated. I always hoped it was untrue.

I was supposed to go to the water park that the little boy died at in the last story that next day. I was so excited because I had never been. And then that same day the incident happened my family and I heard about it on the news and we all just fell silent. It was so chilling and I felt so sad for the little boy but very lucky that I had not gone a day earlier and saw any of that happen or was him for that matter.

The last operating amusement park in West Virginia, Camden Park, is a short car ride from my house. Since it has been open since 1903 and has some of the smaller original attractions, there have been deaths and severe injuries. One of the rides, called the Spider, was permanently closed after one of the arms snapped while in operation. One man died while two others were critically injured. In another incident, the bumper cars burst into flame after a vent became electrified and blew sparks into a nylon curtain. No one died, but several were treated for smoke inhalation. It's become a sort of gallows joke around here that if Camden Park gets rid of it, there's no saving the thing.

This summer in Alberta three people were mauled to death by bears. One woman by a grizzly, another woman by a Black bear, and a man by a grizzly. I cannot think of a worse way for a woman to die than being mauled by a bear. By the way I know one of the three people killed in the Mindbender rollercoaster accident at West Edmonton Mall in June, 1986. He and his dead fiancee were to be married in a month.
