ROLLING STONES 1977 Documentary Part 2 of 2 Keith Toronto Arrest, El Mocambo, Rehab & Love You Live
READ THIS: I was blocked, for 1 min of audio of Manish Boy from LYLive, I had to remove the section at approx 36:37 mark, so it will skip..
Each doc takes me 125+ hours to make of my personal time.
Any donation / contribution thru PAYPAL helps out

Check my Playlist in my KZfaq Channel for more Rolling Stones documentaries.
kzfaq.info?list... sure you let me know you donated so I can make you a sponser for the next documentary.
NOTE: I mentioned Warhol was upset with Jagger on what he added to the cover. Need to confirm that It was the writing of 'The Rolling Stones' and 'Love You Live' to the cover. Warhol thought it would have been fine without the writing.
A compilation of material that will provide a timeline of this crucial Stones time period. A lot went on, and I pull this together as a Stones fan for the Stones fan! Hope you enjoy this!!

Oh yeah!, Go on Steve!! Philly DC here. I just had the chance to catch part two of ‘ 77 - Keith. I was waiting on it, and you delivered! If James Brown was the hardest working man in showbiz, then you are definitely the hardest working guy on KZfaq docs. You shed a lot of light and touched on some really fantastic stuff! Really good pics, some great shots. Some of which I’ve never seen before. Look man, you are a big fan and what’s really important is that you put the stuff out there for all of us fans. Especially those of us that are guitar players like ese docs ever since your first one, and now I can’t wait for some girls. Cheers! Keep it all going and keep it rockin, flipside !!! I’ll talk to you next time and happy holidays to you.

Thank you Domenic for your comments. thanks for the acknowledgement, so much work and time goes into to it. There are a good handful of sources out there that do super geek out and share info also and do a wonderful job. I comment to them plenty thanking them for sharing. I sort of found a gap that we fans still needed which was visual and narration and musical. Which is why I take my time in the delivery, and a lot to absorb. The book called Stones Gear by Greg Provest is great to own. thanks for all

Hell of a documentary, the Keith bust and subsequent clean up and rehab basically saved not only Keith, but the band itself and that’s pretty incredible. I love this entire series, dude, I can’t wait for Some Girls coming up! Also side note, after watching all the docs you’ve done, and by listening to all the Stones catalog from 68-81 recently, I got inspired by Keith more so than ever before and bought my very first legitimate Fender! I got a Tele Deluxe, I was gonna get the black Tele Custom Keith uses, but the allure of double wide range humbuckers in a Mocha finish was just too much to say no to, but it has such a Keith vibe! Thanks again for the docs, and keep up the good work! P.S.: Love You Live is a very fun album, but if I had my choice, El Mocambo or one of the LA Forum ‘75 shows would’ve been the album!

Hey David....thanks for commenting and sharing you info....so glad to hear it when a Stones head appreciates these, makes it all worthwhile. Wow, you got a Deluxe. Nice....A Fender (and a Gibson) are essential for the guitar collection. That sounds real nice. Hopefully it is a Mexican, I think the US is still good. If my mind thinks clear, It is the Korean ones to look out for. oh well any is better then none. Hopefully you know and can do alternate tuning and get it to play in 'G'. that opens up your world. If you get a chance, check out the YT channel 'James James', great tutorials!!! and full of Stones!! cheers!! and enjoy that new addition.!!!

The rare pictures and lesser-seen video here is just golden stuff. Some pictures shown are the wrong eras on display, but overall enough of it is fresh and rare - that it's still a fun watch. I don't think that I pointing out a part of the story (a very important part actually) missing, takes anything good about the documentary away. It does seem the Stones do not want to go into that time frame in too much detail either. And it's great how I was the only one bringing this up and that I also mentioned Keith's "Life" and how it's not clear there either. Good reporting on my part.

@Blain Cartwright I'm from Detroit (blow the reveille)! It's been said before. But, something about the way you said it inspired me to (once & for all) itemize his competition. *Endless **_'made-4-TV'_** or YT docs:* Many times w/ _'fake'_ Stones music. Usually includes a _'detached'_ narrator reading (too fast) from a 3rd-party script. *FS leaves 'em in the dust!* *HBO (& other 'big-hitters'):* They make docs presenting info & footage we've already heard & seen before. These are usually very professional (NOT _"detached"_ like YT). But, it's all _low-hanging fruit._ For casual fans only. Exception: *'Crossfire Hurricane'.* Plenty of _'never-before-seen'_ there! But, lacking any 'in-depth' about the music. *Winner: FS.* *'Cocksucker Blues':* Certainly lots of _'never-before-seen'!_ Not for casual fans because the sex & drugs WILL offend! Not for hard-core fans because it NEVER shows our heroes in any kind of positive light. *So, who is it for? (Nobody)* *'Shine A Light'* Technically, not a _'documentary'._ Mostly, a concert film. Good thing. Cuz we don't wanna try comparing our 'resident documentarian' to: *The Scorsese!* *'Gimme Shelter':* *The benchmark for ALL Rock'n Roll docs!* Humor/Horror/Drama/'behind-the-scenes' footage/Murder/Iconic Performances! Could our 'resident docunentarian' do this? (w/the same resources?) *Answer: Possibly. Provided he had the same access & support staff.* So, let's set the hyperbole aside. FlipSideCt may not be making: "The _'best'_ Stones docs ever." But, he is real close to the TOP! Closer than any mere mortal has ever reached before! (IMHO) the only thing keeping him from the title is access to: *The Good Stuff!* I hope the _'men-of-power'_ read this and consider the possibilities. *ROX ON!* - Dave B.

Fantastic intro, middle and outro Steve. I enjoy this part two as much as I did part one. Maybe even more if that's possible. I am looking forward to what is coming down the silver train line. I have a hunch that you will be delivering the later seventies. Possibly Some Girls? I will never forget the first time I heard the album. It was on an 8-track tape in my cousin's Celica. One of those albums that hits you with a smile from start to finish. Not a bad song on the whole album. Keep up the great work brother Steve~ Rob/Boston

@@chaseth lol, yes I have thought of The Dolls.....I sort of did some small doc on them. I think in Walter Lure's doc, but I never broke down the album. There are a a few real good Docs as we know of them......so it would become more of an album review to make it more personal. I still do not think the US really appreciates them. I made a 3 part Max's Kansas City doc that I had to take down. It did highlight David and The Dolls. The Max's Inner Circle loved it, but the owner's wife complained to take it down, She was in process of making a Max's doc and I believe mine would compete. Well, after a few years, I see it just came out.....only showing in special venues. If you have a serious interest I can send you a link to watch it. But I am very protective of it, as I told her I would honor her request.

Hey Steve, Thanks so much for the two-parter on 1977 which was a great way to spend a few hrs during holiday season. I'm so impressed you were able to do them so quickly and gave us all a Xmas treat. While I always am so blown away by your research, and how thorough it is, I should really also take the time to commend you for your video work and editing too. That can be even more time consuming than the research side of things, and is very fiddly. You really have a lot of skills in your wheelhouse. Toronto has certainly been a huge and integral part of the Stones history, just not the same way as London or NYC have. Obviously Keef’s bust in ‘77 seemed to start it, and inadvertently helped Keef get off the hard stuff, otherwise he would likely be dead by now. Years later, in 1989, Michael Cohl, a Torontonian and concert promoter, brought the band under his wing for many tours, and changed how they were run for the Stones, and many other major bands. Apparently, he was also at the infamous El Mo shows. For tax reasons, as Mick and Prince Lowenstein were always looking for loopholes, practicing in Toronto made sense. As for the actual bust, I had no idea so many mistakes were made by the police at the time. No wonder it took so long to sort out. Due to Canada being part of the British Commonwealth, we did mirror a lot of their police and legal actions. Now I find we are absorbing more behaviour from the US, certainly in terms of policing. In the case of Keef’s drug bust, it really sounds similar to how the British police went after the Stones in the 60s. One thing I do have to quibble with is the characterization of Toronto lawyer Austin Cooper. I believe you said he was a civil liberties lawyer. Actually, he was a top criminal lawyer for over 60 years, achieving the designation of QC in the 1960s. This honorary title is given to Canadian lawyers (the Brits use it as well) for exceptional merit and contributions to the legal profession. It is an elite designation. Sometimes it does seem to be political. Cooper was very low key, and not flamboyant or a showboat. I also question how much L William Carter and Clay Powell, as Americans, could do up here, at least officially. Canada does not allow legal representation from those not accredited, or called to the bar up here in our provinces/territories. Those without such have no legal standing. Now this isn’t to say those two didn’t have a huge part in forming the legal arguments/defense in the case but they would not know our laws or our process which can be much different than what you have in the US as we mirror a lot of the British system. Currently one can get a certificate to consult for 12 months but I have no idea if that was available in the late 1970s. I had never known how/who the crowd was assembled for the shows until your video. Unfortunately I have never even been inside that venue which was due to re-open around the time covid hit everywhere. Michael Wekerle is a Bay Street banker (our Wall St), and was on Dragon’s Den (our Shark Tank) for a few years; he is the owner behind the El Mo being resurrected when so many other concert venues are closing, even before the pandemic hit. As asides: April Wine the Canadian band who opened for the Stones at the El Mo, was a major band up here, and they had a huge US release with Nature of the Beast in the early 80s. Margaret Trudeau was pilloried by the press back then for her behaviour but just like how little we knew about addiction back then, society didn’t know much about the bipolar disorder either. I don’t believe she was even diagnosed at that time. Not only was she the wife of the Prime Minister at that time, she is the mother of our current PM. Fun fact: two of her sons were born on Christmas Day as well. Thanks again for sharing your labour of love, and let’s hope 2022 rocks better than the last two years! Take care and all the best, K

Man when I tell you we would watch that 25x5 vhs video just about every night after our job shifts were over. A couple joints and a few brews and as very young 20 year olds we were in Heaven watching the Worlds Greatest Rock-n-Roll Band. We had them on tape and loved it. Remember people this is way before the internet was invented. Thanks flipsideCT for the time machine ride of those days with friends I no longer get to see anymore. And, your presentation style is *completely unique!* At one point, I was carrying my cell around/doing chores/just listening to the audio. Then, I realized my mistake! The optics are half the fun! So, I had to go back & watch that part again. Still MORE El Mocambo tidbits! I love it! *Gram Parsons!* *The Cosmic Cowboy!* I've seen this so much in popular music. Someone creates a new _'genre'_ (or at least a new approach to an existing genre). Then, others come along/Figure out a _'more commercial'_ way of writing to it/And make all the money (& take all the credit). Like those who say: _"The Eagles invented Country-Rock."_ (Not!) I vaguely remember EVERY critic panning the live album. Screw 'em on that one! When I played 'Love You Live' in my backyard; It was like I hired The Stones for the weekend! There's a real _'intimacy'_ on that album not heard in most other live sets. I still think it has less to do with the mixing/More to do with the original concert(s) use of 'state-of-the-art' technology. 🎵"Because I. Used to love them."🎵 🎵"But, it's all over now."🎵 You wrapped it up well, my friend! *We need you more than ever now!* Peace. Stay Healthy! - Dave B.

Hey Steve thanks for the fantastic job once again. I had the cassette version of Love You Live when it was released and when side A ended there was this noise like the waves down on the beach. If You Can't Rock Me always stops me in my tracks and when Charlie comes in, well , you know what I'm talking about. I had been a fringe Stones fan for a while, Angie was big here in Australia but it wasn't until my Uncle played me If You Can't Rock Me off IORR in early '75 that I was absolutely hooked! thanks CC as always! Yea, usually the older RnR kids in the neighborhood turn us on to them. I do acknowledge there are some really good folks out here sharing great info. I just felt there was nothing out there that gave timelines, visuals, narrations and the music in a combined effort. I would not turn down a Stones offer. thanks for the support.

Joe....I am with you and I know what you experienced. We both were on stage with the Stones. How many times did my mother open the door to tell me to lower everything. Not until I got my hands on Tom Shulz's Rockman that I could plug it all in headphones and be off to PAris!! cheers enjoy the other vids!!
