I'm terribly sad Charlie has departed. I hope he passed peacefully and not in too much pain. Charlie was so modest. He once said in an interview, "I show up at the studio to record. I go home afterwards. I go on tour with the band. I go home afterwards. It's nothing special. I've been doing the same thing for over 50 years." Thank you for your major contribution to Rock n' Roll and to the Rolling Stones. RIP Charles Robert Watts.

Absolutely the coolest, most interesting guy in rock. He's too modest when he says that Mick and Keith would carry on without him. They've both stated that it would all end without Charlie. How could the Stones exist without him rolling his eyes at the proceedings onstage and laying down the tightest, most recognizable groove in music? As with Zeppelin, when the foundation disappears, it's over. Rock on, jazzer Charlie...........................

Maybe, but who wrote the songs who gives Stones popularity ???
@fuchsiaswing85452 жыл бұрын
@@Methilde Haha, The Stones do not even exist without Brian. Also, the Jagger/Richards songwriting team was merely channeled after Lennon/McCartney. It does not mean that only Jagger and Richards wrote the song. While I agree that Jagger and Richards often laid out the blueprint for many of the songs (and spent more time in the mixing room than the other bandmates), the contributions that Bill, Brian, Charlie, and Mick Taylor (as well as numerous guest players) made on some songs cannot be overstated. Taylor was robbed of many songwriting credits, and we know Bill was key in the creation of Paint it Black and Jumpin' Jack Flash.
@Methilde2 жыл бұрын
@@fuchsiaswing8545 It's a quality to play with great musicians for me and if you prefer I will say that 90% of the songs are written byJagger/Richard.
@deeg88492 жыл бұрын
@@Methilde always the same lot questions when ever Brian comes up
@deeg88492 жыл бұрын
@@fuchsiaswing8545 totally. Brian may not write lyrics, but nobody can tell me he didn’t contribute to composing the music and some of the arrangements. Fact is, Jagger and Richards had Andrew as the manager and Andrew wanted to be rich, so he modelled the cash machine on the Beatles and that meant their very own Lennon McCartney outfit. They got away with it because Brian was an artist and while he contributed immeasurably, he was also interested in hanging out and actually driving the swinging 60s culture (sex, style, drugs, rock n roll). Bill and Charlie contributed significantly as well but they aren’t rock the boat guys. Mick and Keith did the same thing to mick Taylor that they did to Brian Leverage his talent and ideas and make empty promises for song writing. I dig mick and Keith and they are very talented, but that ole Brian didn’t write or contribute line is crap told by the two protecting their legacy against a guy not around to defend himself.

Keith was kind of cold about the whole thing. "After all we had been through, you didn't have to go and croak." - Keith on Brian leaving the band shortly before his death. I do however feel that Brian was the master of his own fate. He enjoyed the success "with reservations." Brian merely wanted to play blues without the reputation and stress of superstardom. In the end, he chose to distance himself from the band and the hype. It still cost him his life. God rest his soul.

according to keith . charlie was asleep in his room around 2am when a drunk mick rang charlie and said hows my drummer , charlie then gets up and around twenty minutes later walks into the room immaculately dressed and clocks mick along with the famous "your my singer" reply, Keith claims he grabbed mick to stop him falling over a railing into a pool and calmed charlie down , according to keith the fact that mick was wearing keith's wedding coat and he didn't want it ruined was the reason he grabbed Mick and stopped charlie from giving him another smack , if you can believe that last bit.

Thank you Charlie. Thank you to his family, his friends & everyone who helped & supported him so he could bring his work & playing to all of us. The Rolling Stones convinced me to BE a musician, singer & songwriter in 1981 when Tattoo You came out. Me & my friends talked our 5th grade teacher into letting us borrow the phonograph player from the school library, we put on the LP & air banded the whole album for the class on a rainy day for indoor lunch recess. I was Mick. I was never the same after hearing that record. What a unique drummer Charlie is & was. He sounds & seems like an interesting & special person, and a regular guy. This is not the end of a wonderful thing that will go on forever, but it sure feels like it for a terrible moment, and will certainly be the end of the opportunity to see greatness like this & his on the earth in person. Every passing day & soul I yearn for heaven & the afterlife more & more. Thank God for that. I used to be scared to die. Now I'm actually quite excited to see, be with, and hear them all again. Rest peacefully, Charlie...a little anyway...and then get back to what you do up there. We'll miss you for now.

This is what we needed is to hear his story and we need to be focusing on him, not the rest of the band. RIP Charlie Watts🙏

Charlie and Bill the ultimate bottom. I can distinctly remember hearing Stones live 1964 tour. The bass and drums were a cut or two above the norm. Solid!

As far as what I know, and what I've seen over the years, just a great musician, no scandals professional percussionist, will always be remembered, not a rockstar but I great Rockstar English gentleman!

Great interview, NME, and I happened to think: that's the most I've ever heard from him, in the zillion years I've been a fan.

Doug Barde-Mac. Actually there are quite a lot of Charlie interviews these days, on YT. There's a good one with him taking us through his beloved drum set up ( on stage), and a very good one called 'If it Ain't got that Swing' talking about his style and influences. Well worth looking up. Also look up 'ABC & D of boogie woogie' with his life long friend, bass player Dave Green. Recommended!!

We knew this day would eventually come, but silently hoped it never would. The man is gone but his legacy lives on. R.I.P. Charlie. Thanks for the memories and the music.

So much class! The classiest rockstar in the world if you ask me!

Charlie Watts and Ringo Starr are very similar. Human metronomes. Perfect senses of time. Very under-rated drummers, very under-rated styles. They don’t indulge in all that over-the-top flash, they keep the beat solid with some subtle, often complex stuff. And personalities to help keep a band glued together. No Charlie, no Stones. No Ringo, no Beatles.

Charlie the reluctant Rock Star . But what a simple man . He does not live in the fast lane , ones cars and does not drive and is not caught up in the modern world too much and seems quite happy to be where and what he is . Amazing drummer , very humble and honest about the band the music and interviews . I love watching him and hearing him when he does speak.

I really enjoyed this interview. He's a true gentleman. Charlie was my first musical influence as a young drummer, I had their 12x5 album hot off the press before it hit the radio waves, thanks to my father working in distribution of London Records in Detroit, Mich.
