I never cease to be amazed how a Rock and Roll Band from England was able to capture the great feeling of American country sound. Not only that but I believe it's one of the best ever country songs of all time. Incredible!!!!

What a wondeful story. It's amazing what music gives us. I was the same, my mother died when I was a kid and I would lock myself in my bedroom and listen to Sticky Fingers especially Dead Flowers, I know, sad. I was completely withdrew into myself.

Amazing how their music has touched so many in so many different ways. I have old cassette tapes of me singing to Little T&A and Topps..lol I was about 8. I'd sing in front of the mirror...hair brush in hand, and record me and my record player. LOL

My mother 's (RIP) favorite song that Exile On Mainstreet year. In the days when parents woke up to the idea that Stones and Beatles were not just passing, loud fad. She would come cleaning my room and request this song. Before plugging in the stuffsucker and wait till it was finished, just mopping about a bit. That harp intro .. I'm still trying Mick.

I knew epilepsy in the 50's Danny....I'm sad people didn't understand where you were. We had a boy in our class with Grand Mal seizures and the teacher explained it to all the kids and wouldn't let anyone tease or bully him. Glad the STONES cheered you :D

Está música me faz relembrar os tempos em que servi a Base Aérea Naval de São Pedro da aldeia. O órgão militar em parceria com o governo do Colégio Interno, permitiu que entrasse para a vida militar com quinze anos e assim fora concedido. Não fique menos do que sete meses dentro da Vida Militar. Explico: recruta indisciplinado por não querer "vestir" ou por sobre o corpo a calça comprida, as botas nos pés e as camisas, muitas das vezes com mangas compridas e ficar parado numa guarita, observando todos passarem. E em algumas das vezes quando menor fugia do Colégio Interno,localidade, RJ. Ia para a praia de Copacabana vender sacole, doces, bronzeadores e outras vezes camarões. Trabalhar quando criança é muito bom! E além de estar na companhia de um responsável como a "Tia Regina" que era uma professora de português e ao mesmo tempo, cuidava de mim como se fosse o seu filho. O trabalho distrai a mente, o tempo passar mais rápido e a criança não pensa em fazer 'besteiras". Pula. Um dia ajudarei todas as crianças, começando pela Africa e outros países mais pobres. Partindo com todo este pensamento em mente e com um cartão de uma família que conheci no Colégio. Domingo, por volta da madrugada, deixei a Base Aérea com destino a cidade de Niterói, RJ E ao chegar na rodoviária de cabo Frio olhei para o céu, não olhei para trás e decidido a seguir em frente. Parei em um bar e faltando pouco minutos para o ônibus seguir viagem ouço a música Sweet Virginia e pouco conhecia o conjunto. A vi uma pessoa no bar cantando a música e perguntei a ele, quem estava cantando? Resposta. O conjunto The Rolling Stones. O inesquecível! O insuperável! Uma música que ouvia nas boates da linda Cidade de Cabo Frio e que me acompanha até hoje. Em 2015 sou um faxineiro, um escritor, trabalho em uma academia e pretendo um dia ser o Prefeito da Cidade de Niterói. Warming story man. I used to have seizures (Epilepsy) when I was a kid. I would get teased all the time. In the 80's no one knew what the hell Epilepsy was. So I would come home, go to my room and put on Tattoo You or Undercover and escape. People today still don't know how my world was made so much better by the Stones.

@tralfamadorian42 I think this might be 1990 judging by the other songs i've found from this performance compared to archived set lists but i'm really not sure. I've loved them since I was a teen as well... in the 2000's haha! but hey, good music is eternal and universal!

Although not a difficult structure I found this slightly tricky to play along to - it nearly (but not quite) becomes a walz then you realise it still is 4/4. I believe it would work in 3/4 though. (The idea of the Stones playing a waltz makes me smile - please don't forward outraged examples of them playing such a thing if you know of any). :)

This is a good version however I think the live version recorded in Texas in 1972 with Mick Taylor on lead and still Keys on the sax is better. Check it out it's here on YT.

I agree with all the positive comments, including healing influence of GOOD music. But....could anybody tell me which/what VIRGINIA did he mean? USA - then South or not? Some sweet girl? or both??? Not that it matters so much, music is what counts for me, but still I keep on comparing with another one of my favourites, Lynnyrd Skynnyrd's "Sweet home Alabama" - no doubts which Alabama they had meant...
